About this property

Lakeside Cabin With Private Sandy Beach

Directly on Little Sebago – Unusual Combination of Privacy and Convenience

Recently renovated 1920s craftsman-style Maine cabin combining rustic charm with modern convenience. Located directly on the lake, with spectacular, unobstructed water views. Private sandy beach with dock. Two kayaks.

PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR CABIN IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 5 YEARS OLD. We cannot accommodate pets.

The space:
The cabin has a totally unique location in a private family compound set on a beautiful wooded peninsula. Enjoy all day sunlight with water views both to the east and the west. Lounge in style on your own private sandy beach. Enjoy warm summer swimming and excellent fishing right outside your door.

The house has a deck and 2 porches, one of which is enclosed. Great light. Great breezes. Beautiful views from every room, and lots of windows and glass doors to enjoy them from.

Fast Internet. Internet TV. Dishwasher. Electric baseboard heat. Stone-built gas fireplace. Efficient “U” shaped kitchen with gas stove and new Bosch dishwasher. One full bath + ½ bath upstairs + an outdoor shower with a ramp directly to the beach. Gas grill. Games for a rainy day.

4 bedrooms: 3 with full beds, 1 with 2 twins. All beds are new, very firm, with soft mattress covers on top to give softness. Cotton sheets. Down pillows. Full-size casement window in each bedroom. Comfortably sleeps 5.

Fantastic location! 2 hours from Boston. 30 minutes from Portland. 7 minute drive to Windham shopping, restaurants, and entertainment.

Little Sebago has 5.5 miles of lake to explore and enjoy. There are three bays, each with its own personality, with lots of different features.

Shared washer and dryer in the garage are yours exclusively to use every day after 2pm.

Please keep in mind that this is a lakeside cabin in the Maine woods, with all inherent plusses and minuses. You will, for example, encounter mosquitos and other insects, although only rarely during the day. Our cabin is a beautiful, unique, wonderful place, but it is not "The Hamptons."

PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR CABIN IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 5 YEARS OLD. We cannot accommodate pets.

Guest Access:
Guests have exclusive access to all parts of the cabin, the private beach, and the dock. Guests are welcome to access the front portion of the garage for trash disposal, laundry, kayak paddles and life vests. We live next door, and our canoe is available anytime. Paddles and additional life vests too.

About the host

My partner, Randall, and I live in Boston in the off season. Our cousins live mostly in the greater Portland area. I am a retired university lecturer (Asian and world history). Randall is originally from California and an artist. We met as undergraduates at Brown University. We share interests in the arts, our love of travel, and we love our summers in Maine. Currently, we are both very involved in improving parkland and public open space in Boston.

Why they chose this property

My extended family has summered on Sheldrake Point since 1906 - 7 generations so far! Sheldrake Point is a 6-acre, wooded peninsula with 3 houses. 8 Sheldrake, the middle house, was built around 1925. It sits on the narrowest part of the peninsula, with water views toward the northeast and southwest. The summer days there are long and languid, starting with dramatic sunrises and ending with peaceful sunsets. The prevailing summer breeze wafts in from the southwest. The 8 Sheldrake porch is a heavenly place to enjoy that.

What makes this property unique

The Sheldrake Point peninsula is a 6 acre family compound. The only neighbors you are likely to encounter are ourselves and other family members. Our lake is beautiful and is perfectly oriented toward swimming and kayaking. Yet, remarkably, it is just 10 minutes away from North Windham's bustling commercial strip, which has everything you could possibly need for your stay. We are also easy driving distance to Portland, Freeport, and Kennebunkport. Boston, and Logan Airport, 120 miles away.
