Front Garden:
Before I became a farmer, I poured my creativity into this garden to keep my sanity in law school. It's entirely edible. Dwarf apple trees screen out the street, blueberries line the sidewalk (for sharing with passersby), perennial fruits edge the garden, annual vegetables and strawberries fill the raised beds, and a fountain with spitting frogs attract birds and distracts from city noises. Sit on the south-facing front porch and enjoy the sun!

Back Garden
Our back garden is secluded, you won't see the neighbors and they won't see you. We've worked back here for 20 years to turn it into an oasis. I learned masonry skills while building the pond and 40 foot long stream. The annual veggie garden is yours for the picking. There's multiple spots to sit and rest, eat a meal, read, chat, and or just enjoy the view. The chicken coop and run in the back are currently unoccupied.

Incredibly walkable, just 1½ blocks to the center of Kenton with restaurants, bars, cafés, light rail station, park with playground, library, post office, convenience store, bicycle repair, auto repair, shops, and more! Fred Meyer (supermarket) is ½ mile away, New Seasons (upscale supermarket) is 1 mile away.

About the host

Host profile image
Hi! I'm a Chicago transplant who stereotypically graduated from college and moved to Portland "where young people go to retire." I've worked as a mortgage processor, then as a criminal defense attorney but about a decade ago I finally found my forever career as an organic veggie farmer (I promise this is not a story line from Portlandia, but I do know the farm and farmer in the pilot episode with the chicken).

I love Portland, it's a vibrant place with progressive ideals always striving to do better. I love to share my knowledge of local parks, gardens, museums, outdoor activities, and seasonal events.

Why they chose this property

My partner and I bought our family home, the one you see listed, over 20 years ago. We've poured lots of love into this special place, sharing it with friends and a growing family, and now we're excited to share it with you! I'm starting a farm with a friend about 40 minutes drive away and we'll be staying there during the busy parts of the year.
