About this property

Adventure & Wildlife await in Stunning 2BR cottage on Cowichan River

The fully equipped Cottage is privately located in the beautiful Cowichan Valley and short walk to the Cowichan River and Provincial Park, where nature abounds. From inside the fully fenced yard, you can watch Elk herds in the field, Black bears harvesting native berries, or simply enjoy birdwatching or listening to the frogs. The river boasts amazing hiking trails, swimming, fishing & tubing or you can watch salmon running the Skutz Falls fish ladders. The cottage is the perfect hub to see all things Vancouver Island!
The space
The cottage has a private and peaceful patio for enjoying the sun, sunsets, BBQ’s and wildlife watching. Inside is an open concept living area, dining table and kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with gas range, microwave and full size fridge perfect for memorable family dinners. The bedrooms boast brand new beds; comfy queen-size bed in master and double bed in second bedroom, and a newly renovated bathroom with heated shower floor and luxurious rain head shower. The cottage is uniquely decorated with one-of-a-kind, creative design concepts. There is free, strong Wi-Fi and a 60" Smart TV.
Guest access
Guests will have full, private access to the cottage via coded entry system and the secure and fenced (approximately 1 acre) yard. There is ample parking for two vehicles and/or recreational vehicles.
For outdoor fun, there is access to two mountain bikes, two snow shoe sets, a four person pedal boat (seasonally on our main pond) and a regulation size Bocce set. You are also a short walk to the Cowichan River and its world class trails. The Cowichan River is well known for swimming, tubing, white water kayaking and fishing. Indoors there is a yoga mat, books, games (such as Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Cranium and more), playing cards and puzzles to name a few.
Other things to note
The entire property is named "RockBridge" at Skutz Falls for the unique landscaping on the (mostly level and cleared) 5 acre property which prominently features use of the old wooden Skutz Falls logging bridge and the many, many rocks all picked from the property itself. On the property is this cottage, the Main House, Workshops, Sawmill and two ponds.

About the host

Host profile image
Allan and Julie are self-employed in the Water Remediation industry although we are semi-retired now. We live in the main house on the property which is kept very private from the cottage. Allan loves to build and fix things and is always working on projects around the property. Allan is a longtime Vancouver Islander and is a terrific resource for all things Vancouver Island. Julie moved to the island from the mainland in 2018 to marry Allan (on the Skutz Falls Bridge) and loves living in the country and caring for the fruit and vegetable gardens. Julie also loves to run or hike the many amazing trails on the doorstep.

Why they chose this property

We are out in the country but situated on a dead end road with a handful of neighboring acreages. We are located at the top of a 530 ft hill. A 5-10 minute walk downhill takes you to the Cowichan River and the Provincial Park and trails.

What makes this property unique

We have a large field that we leave open for roaming elk herds to come for visits! They also help keep the grass cut down while we sit and watch! There are also two ponds, one much larger, with an island that is great for swimming or using the pedal boat, but both are great for attracting tons of dragon flies, many birds, and other wildlife.
Within the fenced yard are blueberry bushes and grape vines for added interest while the interior of the cottage is uniquely designed with seashell tile insets, fishing rods for curtain rods and much more.
