About this property

Historic glacial-lakes retreat overlooking Pickerel Lake! Pet friendly!

Enjoy easy access to all that the Coteau des Prairies region of South Dakota has to offer!

Overlooking Pickerel Lake, the jewel of NE SoDak's glacial-lakes region, the 1940s era Hyde Park Café has all the comforts of home. Newly renovated with expanded sleeping quarters, the building boasts the original back-bar and stools from its days as a café and resort further down the shore, and newly added modern amenities.

With a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable sleeping space for up to 12 people, overflow-sleeping options for additional guests, 1.5 baths, and on-site laundry, this property has everything you need to make the most of your summer vacation.

Enjoy afternoon sun-bathing and reading on the spacious wrap-around deck. Stroll down to the state park beach with a picnic. Cool off with a swim in Pickerel or one of many other area lakes just minutes from the property. Relax with a cocktail and hors d'oeuvres before dinner under the the expansive sunset on the west-facing deck. Crank your favorite tunes on the Bluetooth capable stereo, and get in a game of pool before making smores over a bonfire while admiring the Milky Way.

Fish, hike, boat, swim, relax, bike; this property has everything you need for your summer vacation. We welcome pets for an additional fee, and have additional sleeping arrangements available upon request. Parking for auxiliary vehicles and watercraft (trailered) can be arranged.

**Please be aware that while this property is located along the shore and has an excellent, unobstructed view of the lake that there is no beach access due to the steep undeveloped slope leading down to the lake. This is one of the few undeveloped slopes remaining along Pickerel Lake and serves as a crucial buffer for run-off, as well as a refuge for numerous birds.

Building is equipped with business-class fiber optic internet; Wi-Fi capable. Fishing, Hunting, Anthropological, plant identification guide services, and catering options also available for additional fees (highly dependent on other scheduling commitments). Please enquire for additional information.

About the host

Bob and Andrew are brothers who inherited our father's love of the prairie lakes region. Since childhood, we've spent summers here fishing and swimming, and fall hunting ducks and pheasants in the area. Now we get to share those experiences with our families and our guests at the Hyde Park Cafe!

Why they chose this property

Our family has been enjoying this property on the shores of Pickerel Lake for almost 70 years. We have a strong connection to this area and are passionate about sharing that experience with our guests! From the last ice age to the International Vinegar Museum, we want to share our knowledge of this area with you!

What makes this property unique

This building was the original East Shore Resort, located about 1/4 mile south down the East shore of the lake. Purchased and moved to its current site in 1991, it has since undergone several large renovations to make it habitable. The original backbar and several other artifacts still grace the main lounge, including a sign for the resort over the fireplace which was repainted with the name of another lost local establishment of renown: Ed's Bait Shop.
