About the host
Your host
Your hosts - Andy and Shaun - became the proud owners of Compass Cottage in 2023.
We're obsessed with this part of Cornwall and have friends and relations close. We enjoy swimming and rock-pooling on Flushing beach with our son Lucas, exploring the many great walks - particularly those that involve a pub at the end!
We both work in Animation, so keep your eyes peeled for any cartoon characters hidden around the place~!

Why they chose this property
Reputed to be England's warmest village, due to its unique micro-climate, it first gained prominence as a Dutch settlement in the 1600s. Then known as 'Nankersey', it was the European settlers who developed the distinctive dutch quays, which still stand strong to this day. In the late 1700s thru to the mid-19th century, Flushing was a bustling and vibrant centre of the International packet industry, acting as a hub for mail destined to the new world. Reminders of both of these interesting facts can be found throughout the village.
It may now only have around 700 inhabitants, but it's got the community spirit of a town much larger. Flushing hosts its annual Regatta in the summer, which features such delights as makeshift boat races across off the quay. There is also the village Pantomime in the winter and regular art and craft fares featuring an array of work by local artists.
Just 2 minutes walk away from Compass Cottage is a fantastic pub in The Royal Standard, and a lavish dining and cocktail experience at Harbour House. The village shop carries a wide range of essentials for your stay and has regular deliveries or bread and the all-important pasties!
Flushing Beach is a very easy 10-minute walk from the cottage and offers a safe place to paddle and swim. Particularly prized by as a sheltered and less-crowded swimming spot by locals, the beach also offers paddle-board hire in the summer season. From here, there are some beautiful scenic walks from Flushing to the neighboring villages of Mylor and the Restronguet Creek. There is also a fab children's chldren's parkground at the Bowling Green, on a short-cut from the beach to the village.
Flushing residents or "Strawbuckies" as they are known are welcoming and generous with their time and recommendations, but also pride themselves in living in a village that doesn't push the tourist agenda like many other Cornish seaside spots.
Flushing is a truly special Cornish experience~!

What makes this property unique
Built for a prominent Cornish shipwright during the packet era - a time when Flushing was the center of the postal service for the world - Compass Cottage has been completely renovated and tastefully decorated throughout. It now provides a deceptively spacious and welcoming home for families taking in all the delights of Flushing, Mylor and the Falmouth area.
