Pompano Beach also maintains more than 50 local parks for sports enthusiasts or those who have a penchant for outdoor relaxation. Local attractions and shopping in Pompano Beach provide myriad entertainment options. Annual special events include a holiday boat parade in December, seafood festival in April, and fishing rodeo in May.

DINING:
Known as South Floridaʼs “freshest seafood by the waterway”, the "Blue Moon Fish Company" is the next town in Lauderdale by the Sea. The restaurant welcomes locals, seasonal residents and vacationers. it's the recipient of numerous awards for culinary excellence.

Recognized as a national landmark Cap’s is Broward County, Florida's oldest restaurant in Pompano. With roots as a 1920's casino and rum-running speakeasy, the restaurant sits on an island off Lighthouse Point and can be reached by Cap's motor launch. The winner of numerous dining awards, in 1990 Cap’s Place was listed as a historical site on the National Register of Historic Places. Cap's Place is known for fresh native seafood, hearts of palm salad, succulent steaks, chops and chicken. Cap's extensive selection of fish and shellfish dishes offer the very best in casual waterfront dining. The menu includes only the freshest local dolphin, wahoo, cobia, snapper, pompano, lobster and stone crab, varying with the catch.

POMPANO FISHING:
True Grit Sportfishing is dedicated to catching big fish and having a great time with their guests. They do it by taking you out to the best fishing spots, teaching you the best techniques and helping you reel in the catch of your life. True Grip will take you on an adventure of a lifetime that you will be able to tell your friends and family about. They are a professional crew made up of avid fishermen who all possess great knowledge of the techniques and the fish. You will fish aboard the 34 foot SeaVee center console boat, which was built in 2015 and has a capacity for 6 guests.

Reel Dusky Fishing Charters runs a selection of offshore charters out of Lighthouse Point, FL. Located a short drive north of Miami/Fort Lauderdale on Florida’s Atlantic coast, you will be fishing in some of the richest and most famous waters in the U.S., with a huge variety of species migrating between the gulf and the ocean every year. The vessel you will be fishing aboard, the “Reel Dusky”, is a 28 ft Dusky center console with ample space aboard for four anglers. Powered by twin 200HP Evinrude Etecs, she has a maximum speed of 52 knots, meaning you’ll be out in the deep waters in no time.

POMPANO BEACH
If finding an overpopulated beach, with loud music and lots of traffic is your thing, Pompano Beach is not for you. If you're more into filming your own little Corona beer commercial in peace, it's right up your alley. Pull up a chair to any Pompano Beach Tiki Bar on A1A, and you're likely to find an older fisherman with an unbuttoned shirt exposing his weathered chest, who just wants to chat over a good beer. That's what the beach should be all about. And, with the recent sinking of the "Lady Luck" creating Pompano's own "Shipwreck Park", it's a good place to get up close and personal with marine life as well. The lighthouse, located just north of Pompano's fishing marina, is a beautiful landmark that is visible throughout the beach. This particular lighthouse is considered one of the strongest lights in the world, featuring a beam that can be seen from 28 miles out at sea.

It's one thing to throw some rusty, old workout equipment onto the sand and call it a day, but Pompano Beach has set up some gym-quality machines for the public to use, right on the beach. The shaded tent that hovers over it is perfectly placed so you get the feeling of an outdoor workout. This is an especially amazing feature, considering that you can take a jog, from the condo, down to the beach, use the equipment, jump in the ocean, then jog back to the condo. How awesome does that sound? It's these little things that put Pompano Beach, and the condo over the edge.

Like to walk along the beach? A wide, beautifully landscaped boardwalk runs parallel to Pompano Beach, and goes on for miles. Go off for a daily walk, to the beach, and you'll find people doing just about everything: riding Segways, pushing skateboards, rollerblading, jogging, and just enjoying the waves. The sheer length of this boardwalk is an attraction in itself; having the ocean mist hitting you in the face, while walking along the beach is just an added bonus. Pompano Beach has a lot going for it, but its very clean and relaxing boardwalk makes it more than just a beach; it's a top Florida attraction.

We retired to South Florida, from New England, in 2005. We love it here, and we'd love to share our condo with visitors from the cold North, this coming winter.
