About the host

After many happy camping holidays in this region with our 4 children eventually we decided to buy a house in the area , as we all love it so much and it was becoming very difficult to cram everyone and their stuff into a tent!
everyone was very excited when we found the poor house all broken down and in need of restoration and immediately jumped on board and many of the rooms reflect their influence (eg the Blue rooms in both the houses is decorated for our daughter who chose the colour scheme etc)we have had many happy family holidays here both in the summer, Christmas and New Year ( fireworks on the lawn!)and in the run up to public exams , to try to ease the pain of revising with pool time and trips to the pizza restaurants .The family also love helping to collect in the olives in October. They were also delighted we were able to get tickets for them to see Robbie Williams- (so close up), Stevie Wonder and Lenny Kravitz in the Lucca music festival. We are delighted now they are grown up ,return not only with us the parents but also with their friends to enjoy this lovely family venue
We hope you will enjoy and respect the house and estate as much as we do and have a very happy holiday there

Why they chose this property
This beautiful house and estate had sadly fallen into a terrible state of disrepair after decades of neglect, and we immediately fell in love with it and determined to restore it to its former glory. Using as much of the original structure and materials (Flagstones, terracotta tiles, stone stairs, chestnut beams, outbuildings) as possible we have lovingly rebuilt it to reflect its traditional feel. We have a large lively and sociable family and extended family, and designed both the houses for us to enjoy with them and with friends. So apart from bedroom space we have tried to ensure there is plenty of living space to suit differing needs. Il Granaio works well on its own but is also a great annex for larger groups in A particularly enjoy Il Granaio in the spring and Autumn and it catches the evening sun .
We were delighted to discover in the terribly overgrown surrounding that there was an olive grove of more than 60 olive trees completely smothered with bramble and weeds, and have gradually been releasing them from their rampant prisoners. The trees have rewarded us each year with more and more delicious oil - this year we had a fabulous yield of 19%.
We sense that the house and estate is delighted to have people enjoying all it has to offer and we hope you will enjoy your stay in our lovely corner of beautiful Tuscany

What makes this property unique
There aren't many houses that offer so much space - not only for bedrooms but also for living.
We have tried to combine comfort with traditional style and materials, so although there are cool surfaces of marble, terracotta floors and windows, we have rugs, leather upholstery, gas central heating in both houses, and a beautiful open fire for cosiness in A Chele.
There is a pizza oven attached to Il Granaio if you want to live that Italian dream.
The house is well served for add on facilities such as personal chef (also available as cookery lessons - very entertaining) and a range of special interest activities such as wine tours, and sporting pursuits. The Giro D' Italia passed very close in March, and Lucca is a cycling centre in its own right with many of the national teams eg SKY having their training camps here .We ski by the day in January and February in Abetone - a mere 75 minutes’ drive .For the more cultured taste there is the fabulous Puccini festival of open air Opera in July and August and of course the Lucca Music festival which is held throughout June and July and features amazingly big names ... we have seen Stevie Wonder , Robbie Williams and The Rolling Stones !
A more niche market is the Comics festival (end of October) featuring opportunities to dress up as superheroes.
There are of course all the local Sagra to attend as well, e.g. chestnut festival, truffle festival and the festival of fish and chips at Barga!
So at A Chele you are in a rural location, with all the benefits, space and privacy that brings, with the advantage of being in easy reach of Lucca (15 Minutes’ drive), excellent sporting opportunities at hand, the chic designer Versilian coastal venue of Pietro Santo, Torre del Lago for Puccini, easy 30 minutes to Pisa , train to Florence, what is not to like?
