Calypso beach resort in coolangatta

Beautiful resort complex. Across from beach, enormous pool with water slides. Weekly cleaning!? They changed the beds and gave us fresh sheets but I saw no evidence of cleaning. No vacuum, no mop. Huh!

Our ocean view room was very nice and the location was perfect for walking around, no need to drive to get to beach, stores and restaurants. I had asked for ocean view with twin beds. When I arrived, I was told that no ocean view rooms had twin beds. That should have been explained from the start. It did have a pull-out couch to sleep on. I reluctantly accepted because I wanted the ocean view. The pull out couch turned out to be of very poor quality. Not only was the mattress very old where I could feel all the springs, but the metal frame was titled up at the feet end. In other words, when lying down my head would have been lower than my feet. In order to avoid this, I had to sleep with my head at the feet end of the bed. When I was checking out, I told them about the poor quality of the pull out couch and was only then told I could have asked for a cot. I wish I had been informed of this option when I checked in. I was informed that instead of twin beds, there was a pull out couch, with no mention of a cot option. The other surprise we had was the long walk from the elevator to our ocean view room - 210 steps from the elevator to our room. The swimming pool is designed for families with young children, so don't expect to be doing any laps. Other than that, my stay was very nice. Just mentioning these issues so others are aware.

Loved everything about this property. Our apartment was lovely, as were the pool area, the location and the incredible staff!! Wish we could have stayed here longer. Would highly recommend it to others!

Good location and friendly staff

The Oaks Calypso is well located with plenty of places to eat (or to buy groceries for a much more sensible cost) and a convenience store living up to its name right across the street. There is a wired internet connection near reception (fixed fee) or a wireless connection in the room. Most of the apartment amenities were in good condition except for a few utensils which needed replacing but in general we had no complaints. The only odd thing was that we couldn't find an oven in addition to the stovetop/microwave. If it was there then it was well hidden from culinary idiots such as ourselves. This restricted what we could buy and cook for ourselves. Perhaps it was to reduce the risk of fire alarms? The air-conditioning also seemed to be a bit all or nothing at times and made a weird noise but it didn't cause a problem. The pool isn't particularly large and is full of kids using the waterslide. It also had a full-time supervisor on watch which is good for families I suppose. Luckily the beach is just a hop, skip and a jump across the road and we spent most of our time down there so I don't have a lot more to say about the grounds. The gym was small but OK even though one of the weight machines was out of order. The hotel in general was clean and the lady who provided us with the daily weather reports was awesome - better than the TV! She always had a big smile and deserves a mention. Overall, very pleased with our choice and would recommend it to others.

Great location. Pool was great. Across the road from the beach was handy. I would recommend this hotel more for young families though. Did enjoy my stay though.

This is an all round lovely place to stay. The staff are lovely and helpful, the property itself is well maintained and clean. Great location, walking distance to everything. No need to drive. The pool area is really nice and a large space. Lots of kids if you’d prefer no kids, but a great holiday spot for kids. The pool is big and lovely and plenty of chairs and umbrellas around the pool. The parking was great and very easy. If you arrive early the staff are so good at letting you park and then use the pool areas until check in. It’s not a super modern building but it’s comfortable and clean. Highly recommend!!

The amount of money paid for a 3 night stay was a lot for the room that we stayed. Not on the beach side of the hotel. Room was ok, however fridge so old and rusty and also the dishwasher was chipped and broken. Small things, but still something for them to look at when paying top dollar.

Such a great location opposite the beach and walking paths. Park the car and walk to shops and restaurants. A great pool and lovely gardens. The room had a sea view, away from any poo and road noise. Comfy bed and kitche fully eqipped Fantastic accomodation.

The property was lovely, great for families with kids during school holidays. We, as an older couple, were not comfortable in the pool at 4:30 play time with the noise and activity of what seemed like 1,000 kids but were able to walk to a beautiful beach across the road. The apartment was small and not claustrophobic but nicely designed with a full kitchen and laundry and also within walking to many varied restaurants.
