The location of the property and the roof top pool were great. However, the condition of the building and suite itself were poor and in great need of a renovation. Although the cleaning staff came through daily and provided fresh towels, they didn’t really clean the bathroom. For the price we paid, I did expect a little nicer and was slightly disappointed.

Good location

Great location. Right by Hdye Park. Friendly staff. Nice lobby and renovated elevators. Room (910) needs to be renovated and the hallways. Does have laundry facilities. We stayed at at The Oaks Felix in Brisbane which was fantastic!!! So this was disappointing. I think they are working on some renovations.

Roaches roaches

Woke up to a roach crawling along side bed. Then later went to shower and out runs another. Laminate floor dirty. However location great for hotel upgraded and new room dishwasher rang for two days and dirty items found in closet.

Room was clean enough but bathroom needs to be renovated. A few things were left like it was when the renovation took place and it's too bad. But overall, for the price, it's a good hotel. I would go back. Location was perfect.

Ideal location

Lovely location across form Hyde Park. Walk anywhere in CBC.Well equipped kitchen. Good grocery store nearby. Very convenient to Museum Station on Raillink from Airport. Comfortable bed. Our second stay and will return if we are lucky enough to travel to Australia again.

Great location, however hotel needs some TLC. It was a cheaper rate than most places in the area, so that was a positive, however the overall condition of the hotel needs some improving. Has everything you need, however would be solo much nicer with a little work done.

Keep on Looking Elsewhere

This place is being grossly misrepresented. Don't even bother considering it unless you enjoy run-down, dirty, smelly hotels. If we hadn't prepaid our room we would have walked out after the first night. The shame of it is, this hotel has good "bones" and a good central location. It could be quite nice if it was given a complete makeover. Until then...stay away! Upon arrival we noted the dirty and shabby condition of the lobby. Outside of the elevator was the entrance to the restaurant which was dirty and in need of paint. Most of the elevator buttons no longer lit up nor did the floor indicator outside. Inside the melamine was cracked and chipped. (By the next day one of the two elevators had stopped working and still wasn't repaired when we left 4 days later). Our room smelled like dirty carpet. We complained and the "cleaned" the carpet the next day but we ended up sleeping with the balcony door open to control the stench. We asked to be moved to another room but were told we were already in one of their "4 star" rooms. Basically, we held our noses and spent as little time as possible in the hotel. Thank God Sydney has lots to do! The Oaks is also an apartment hotel with a number of "colorful" permanent residents. I won't elaborate further on these residents as the statement speaks for itself. Oh yes! Almost forgot. We also had a fire alarm go off at 3 a.m. one night. One of the residents told my wife it "happens all the time".

Low priority choice in Sydney CBD

The hotel, while situated in a prime location, is an old and behind-the-times facility. It is dated, seems not to have been painted in decades and does not offer the commodities most hotels of this class do. While the room ("3.5 Star Apartment") was clean and had a view of Hyde Park, the decor was very humble and minimalist,its windows had not been washed in years and were covered in thick dust. The toilet tank cover was cracked, the bathtub contained stains and sreaks and the soap holder was rusty and corroded. The floor broadloom was undulated and not attached in all areas. No wireless internet in the rooms (only wired), no breakfast at the hotel. I only stayed there because of unavailability of nearby hotels on my travel dates. The hotel needs a full make-over and I will not stay there again unless in an emergency situation when there is nothing else available.

Rather ghetto, but can't deny the great location.

The hotel was a very convenient walk from the museum train station, one of the main reasons I booked there. The condition of the hotel was, well, less than stellar. It sure is amazing what good pictures can do to sell a place. The lift looked straight out of the 40's, buttons chipped and lights burned out. My room was 815, and as soon as you step in you might as well trip over the bed. It was a very firm mattress, and the entertainment system required a knowledge of a WWII enigma decoder. The view was possibly as bad as you could get, with the back alley and a construction motorised lift that made the most horrible noise when it was in use...7AM; a front desk wake-up call was not required. Alas, the location was still the most important part as it was right on hyde park, the hop-on-hop-off stop was right near by. Compared to other Oaks properties this one needs a serious face-lift. I'd stay there again if I had no other option, by might try for a better room.

Nice place

Restaurants are a good walk from the hotel and many things are closed. For a large city, we were surprised at how early things close! We stayed at this hotel on our trip North to Cairns and on our return to Melbourne. Both were brief stays and suited our purpose - with our 2 girls. We had a room with a Queen and 2 single beds.

great location, bargain price

The location of this hotel is premium, right at the center of the city and next to Hyde park. All major tourist attractions are within 20-min walking distances. Clean and spacious rooms are equipped with all kitchen facilities. If you get it at a reasonable price, it is really a bargain.
