We had an amazing time. The scenery was just beautiful. Views are breathtaking and our hosts were fantastic. Loved the little touches with the wine and cookies and treats. So sweet! Bed was very comfortable!The drive up is a little un-nerving the first time but you get used to it.Only recommendations I would make would be to have an ice cube tray and maybe some chair loungers to lay in the sun on the grass. Other than that it.was perfect!

There will not be enough beautiful things to say about Casa Sofia. The location is incredible. Situated on a rural farm 5 minutes from a major city – yet the mountain views and quiet setting make it feel like you are far from the hustle. Vera, the property owner, is kind and friendly and check-in/check-out were easy and seamless. Her home is beautiful – well equipped kitchen and lovely bathroom with natural light in the shower. There are mountain views from every room in the house. The high ceilings make it feel even more open to the outdoors. We visited Cachi Dam and Irazú Volcano – both worth seeing. Tip: buy tickets on-line for Irazú Volcano. We stayed 5 nights and wish we had stayed longer. Thank you Vera for sharing your home. We hope to return.

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely large house with its well stocked kitchen, private pool and huge grounds with many different trees. The master bedroom and attached ensuite left us feeling we never wanted to leave! On the main floor are two other bedrooms and an additional bathroom. There is a third 2 piece washroom out by the pool area - no need to go into the house if you have been swimming or sitting by the pool. Having use of the washer/dryer was another bonus. We appreciated having such a well stocked kitchen - paper towels, salt, pepper and other spices were all there. We were met in Turrialba and guided to the property so we didn’t have to navigate Turrialbe traffic on our own. We had many questions about the area which were always answered promptly along with suggestions of activities and recommendations for things such as where to purchase groceries. We consider ourselves fortunate to have the privilege of staying there for a few days!

Steve and Nancy were fantastic hosts and they really have a special, breathtaking property. Truely a fantasic experience, go out of your way to stay here.

My son and I had a great experience at this lovely casa. Location has spectacular views!! Close to Cartago (much easier to navigate and get around than San Jose). Basilica and ruins worth checking out. Lankester Gardens, Irazu volcano, town of Orosi all close by. We enjoyed the “swimming hole” listed in guide provided by owner. House itself is beautiful. Would work well for our family of four in future. Staff is lovely and made everything easy and comfy. Mari brought fresh baking to us on our arrival night. So sweet, and while language was limited on both ends we felt a warm hospitality from her. Definitely order the breakfast for a treat the first day :) Highly recommend!

This beautiful property, reached by a very steep hill, offers amazing views both day & night. But kitchen amenities are meager and towels are limited. Laundry & outdoor jacuzzi are off limits. No sink plugs make dishwashing & clothes handwashing a challenge; bring your own universal plug. Surprised to find open panes in every room, but, even more surprisingly, no unwanted visitors. Keeps the house fresh, but difficult to keep warm on cool nights.

Overall the stay was great mainly due to the property care taker Ricardo who went above and beyond. Our only annoyance was with the owner for the following reasons- 1, He e mailed us 3 days before our planned arrival telling us our booked dates were no longer available as someone else was staying there and could we reschedule.This was resolved as it was the owner booking error. 2, After a very long journey we arrived at the locked gates of the accommodation with no one to greet us. We checked our confirmation e mail and the 2 contact phone numbers were purely xxx xxx xxxs. With no internet we are now stuck. We head into town to a local restaurant to try to identify the owner. Fortunately a member of staff at the restaurant knew Ricardo’s son who he called and got Ricardo to meet us at the restaurant. Ricardo then called the owner Bill who claimed we were not scheduled to arrive till the following day ! Another blunder on the owners part. 3, The propane ran out at 6:30pm half way through cooking dinner. We e mailed the owner Bill and his reply, Ricardo will replace it tomorrow morning ! Fortunately due to the complete lack of confidence in the owner we obtained Ricardo’s phone number, we called him and he had the propane changed out within minutes. 4, Our plans changed and we left the property early, we asked the owner to consider a refund for the unused nights which was flatly refused. Given the point 1 listed above we thought this a little hypocritical.

A beautiful home. Our problem was we had no phone service so unable to use what’s app to contact the owner and the people who looked after the property spoke no English. We were unable to get Wi-Fi and had no television.
