We all (family with two teenagers) agreed that this is one of the nicest houses we’ve stayed in. The layout meant we felt connected but had our own space too. There are lots of properly comfortable places to chill (not always the case in holiday homes) and many places to sit and chat, eat or play games – all of which we did. Its beautifully designed and decorated which made us all feel wonderfully spoilt for our week there.
The pool is a great size to mess around in and even swim a few strokes if you want to be active.
The BBQ area is a great space with stylish table and chairs, and fantastic view, but we surprised ourselves and didn’t BBQ as much as we normally do. This was because it gets dark early (6pm) in Costa Rica that you are less inclined to cook outdoors. So, we really appreciated the fully equipped kitchen and dining areas (one indoors and one out). The kitchen has everything you need and more and both dining areas have a positively grand feel, so we enjoyed our time ‘eating in’. Shout out for the local supermarket, which was incredibly well stocked and a joy, compared to the supermarkets in Quepos, where we stayed the previous week. We also ate out at nearby restaurants in Atenas and thanks to Leticia, the house manager, arranging taxis for us, that was all incredibly easy.
The blog that Judd and Liz shared was incredibly helpful in guiding us on day trips. We went to a local Las Minas waterfall (which we could swim in, and discovered a ‘natural’ water slide), Poas volcano (unfortunately the cloud was against us!), La Paz Waterfall and Gardens. Our favourite trip was to El Toledo Coffee Farm – a heart-warming, family business. We were shown around by the sons who were informative but also open and honest about the challenges of being an ‘organic’ coffee farm, in a competitive global market.
Finally, this house is within easy access of the airport at San Jose, but in our first week we stayed further away in Quepos. Judd and Liz recommended an hotel for our first night in Costa Rica. That was really helpful and made our arrival in Costa Rica very pleasant and relaxing. The food there (both dinner and breakfast) turned out to be the best of the whole holiday.
Judd and Liz were helpful throughout and always responsive to our questions. Judd even called on our first night to make sure that we were settling in and had found everything we needed.
We’d highly recommend this house and hope we’ll be able to stay there again in the future.
