Overall fabulous.
Super clean, great location, charming as it comes, Very nice owners. If we had one slightly negative comment I would say the kitchen is really only suitable for light meals and breakfast as its fairly small but as we typically eat out on vacation, or have cheese, bread & wine when staying in, it was not an issue. On that note, you MUST try the local pub for meals and friendly staff, and the local shop has about everything you will need. Close to may great attractions. Try renting a canal barge for a day. we did and had a fantastic time! Fabulous job Penny and many thanks! The Culpan family.

Perfect and Beautiful
We just spent a week in Coachmans Cottage which is a perfect cottage in the beautiful village of Steeple Ashton. Penny and Peter are warm and wonderful hosts. The cottage felt like home right away. It is beautifully decorated, extremely comfortable, and wonderfully functional. The local pub, The Longs Arms, is a short stroll from the cottage and was a great place for catching dinner when we were too tired to cook. We found Coachmans Cottage to be a great central point to visit Wells Cathedral, Bath, Glastonbury, and my favorite, Great Chalfield Manor. We highly recommend Coachmans Cottage - thank you Penny for everything!

A relaxing visit
We had a really lovely 9 days at Coachmans Cottage and both agreed it was a fantastic place to stay. Penny had set out a welcome tea tray with homemade brownies and there was also a hospitality hamper on arrival. We were met with a small tour of the house and we felt all our needs were catered for. The house was immaculate and yet it felt a real home from home. Our visits included: The Bath Pump room restaurant to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary, Wells Cathedral for the one wet day and Stourhead Gardens. The local pub The Longs Arms was a very friendly venue for a good evening meal and we were fed well. Also on several nights in the cottage we lit the wood fire which made it very cosy. We both felt we would struggle to find fault with this accommodation and agreed we had had a perfect getaway. Thank you so much to Penny & Peter.

Tranquillity in Steeple Ashton
We first discovered Coachman's Cottage 3 years ago and after such an idyllic stay in a peaceful location central to everything we wanted to see in the West Country we decided to go back. They say that you cannot go back without disappointment but we found that Penny and Peter had the cottage even more comfortable. It confirmed our view that you are not just renting a luxury cottage, but joining a friendly, tight knit community. Penny and Peter were perfect hosts giving us travel tips and a comprehensive list of local pubs to savour the local fare. In short we could not recommend Coachman's Cottage more highly and will provide details to any Australian friends wanting to see the West Country.

A Well Appointed Cottage in a Good Location
The cottage is furnished and decorated to a high standard. It is in a quiet cul-de-sac with its own private courtyard and with parking for one car on a drive behind a gate, so is secure. It is centrally located in this award winning village. A welcome pack was provided by the friendly and helpful owner who lives next to the cottage and she is on hand if help is required. We enjoyed our stay here and would happily return as there is a great deal to see in the vicinity. We would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone considering renting it.

The perfect start to a memorable holiday
We're an ex-Pat English couple with the last 23 years spent in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. We visit England annually, usually concentrating on previous hunting grounds in Wiltshire and North Yorkshire. We fly via Dubai, using its useful Durban to Gatwick route. We hire cottages that are large enough to act as a hub for our friends. We vary choices and decided that Coachman's Cottage in Steeple Ashton looked suitable; Penny's accessibility and detailed advice beforehand overcame any doubts about centralised booking. And how right this turned out to be for a touring overseas couple. An easily reached but captivating English village, enduring and oozing pride in its summer appearance; an ideally situated ancient cottage, near pub, church, shop and important routes; detailed and sensible comforts in the cottage inventory; immaculately equipped kitchen with all household facilities; instant friendship and guidance from Penny and her father; wonderful peace and calm for sundowners in the garden amid idyllic surroundings. We regard ourselves as reasonably seasoned travellers, never completely out of touch with England and the English but we cannot recall a better spot for a traveller to unwind and begin to absorb the unique charm and rewards of the English rural lifestyle. We congratulate Penny without reservation in running the perfect self-catering cottage. We would love to return and pick up her friendship where we left off.

Lovely, well-equipped cottage
We had an excellent time in this lovely cottage. Brownies and home made marmalade upon arrival made us feel welcome. Outside sitting space, excellent pub nearby, lots to see in the neighbourhood. Highly recommended.

COACHMANS COTTAGE. excellent well decorated and furnished cottage.
This is a delightful cottage very well maintained by the friendly and helpful owners. The welcome breakfast basket was much appreciated. The village is very old and pretty with a pub only 100 mtrs away and a church almost the size of a cathedral. There are many old and interesting buildings and the village is calm and peaceful. The surrounding area is fairly flat but has good places to visit, the canal basin at Bradford on Avon was great fun with the canal trust cafe a good place to eat. For shopping try Salisbury with its huge cathedral and fine surroundings. A must to visit is Stourhead gardens and house, take a camera for the beautiful views. This cottage is highly recommended . PS For Salisbury use park and ride, cheap and quick as parking in the city is poor.

Cosy Comfort!
This was our second visit to Coachmans and again was an absolute delight! Log fires, comfy beds, long walks (when the weather permitted), great local pub and village shop. The cottage is small but perfectly formed with all mod cons and Penny, Peter and Jo are delightful hosts.Nothing was too much trouble for them. Immaculately clean cottage and a great location to explore Bath and the Wiltshire countryside.

The most perfect cottage - not to be forgotten
Our short break away was well needed and we were not disappointed. Upon arrival we were met by our wonderful hosts and you could tell immediately that we had landed upon a gem. The cottage is quintessentially English and as picturesque as you could imagine. The interior, too, did nothing to dampen our enthusiasm. The main bedroom was a perfect size - large, well lit, with excellent storage. The spare room was also a comfortable size as too was the bathroom; immaculately clean and an added luxury of a powerful shower (not also provided in some cottages). The kitchen was of a modest size, smallish in comparison to the other rooms but more than perfect for us and I have never stayed anywhere where every culinary item was thought of. Not only that but we were left with a box filled with goodies - fresh orange juice, milk, butter, eggs AND homemade brownies! It made us feel so at home. My husband loves tending an open fire and the magic of the sitting room was emphasised by the smell and warmth generated from a daily fire (hosts left us a generous amount of wood to get us started). Several factors of the cottage have made us want to return. The house was warm, friendly, immaculately clean and being pregnant offered me the perfect sanctuary to relax in quietness. Steeple Ashton is a beautiful village - you almost feel lost in time; the local pub is a stone's throw away and offers delicious food and cosy evening drinking. The surrounding area is full of stunning walks and cultural excursions depending on what you enjoy doing and there is a wealth of information left for you at the cottage. Our recommendations - Stourhead (beautiful walks around the National Trust park), Barton Country Park (lovely, flat walk along the canal), Salisbury Cathedral is stunning but our favourite place was Lacock, a village protected by the National Trust and seen in many period dramas and blockbuster films. Eating wise, you must try Sign of the Angel - great service and locally produced food prepared to a high standard at a reasonable cost. I can't recommend this place enough and we cannot wait to return again in 2016. A home away from home. Thank you so much Penny and Peter!

Perfect English Country Cottage
Upon our arrival at Coachman's we were greeted by our warm and friendly host, Penny. The cottage was absolutely delightful, cosy, warm and immaculate, in fact, all it 'said on the tin' and more. We found Steeple Ashton to be a welcoming, friendly village, with the dog friendly pub ( The Longs arms ) serving an excellent Sunday Lunch. The cottage is ideally situated for easily visiting many places of interest in a 'day- round' trip.( Bath being an absolute must - 15mins by train.) We definitely intend to return sooner rather than later to enjoy again the delights of this beautiful cottage set in idyllic countryside. Peter, Cynthia and Sandy.

A home from home!
Spending our summer holiday for first time in the English country and we absolutely fell in love. We - my husband, myself and our 2 teenage children - had a great stay in Coachman's Cottage in lovely Steeple Ashton. The cottage is wonderful and had everything we needed for our stay. Penny and Peter were very helpful with suggestions and all together it really was a home from home. We enjoyed the beautiful countryside of Wiltshire, its beautiful cities, charming idyllic villages, culture and history. And last but not least that excellent kitchen and friendly staff of The Longs Arms. Want to go home with that special English feeling: stay at Coachman's Cottage, splendid and highly recommanded! Thank you for a wonderful week.

Wonderful cottage in Steeple Ashton
Coachman's Cottage was superb, exactly what we were after. So comfortable and everything immaculate and present to a very high standard. Hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming and the chocolate cake on arrival was to die for. Steeple Ashton as a destination is perfect, the pub and local village shop were both excellent. It is allows easy access to all sorts of amazing places to visit, including Bath, Avebury, Devizes, Salisbury and even London by train. Would highly recommend and will definitely stay again when we are in the area.

What a little treasure! An absolutely delightful cottage and immaculate in every way A beautiful country cottage in a beautiful English country village. Our hosts were warm and welcoming and the cottage was supplied with all the necessary to get us off to a great start. A dream home in the countryside
After visiting the city of London numerous times between 1972 and 2003 and then seemingly forgetting all about England for a complete decade, we were suddenly reminded of the fact that there is still a whole wonderful country left to explore, and so we looked for the best place to stay in southwest England. I think we found it! Coachmans Cottage is an ideal place to call temporary home if you want to experience the very real and enchanting English countryside, to see many of the places you might have heard of or seen on TV in an Agatha Christie mystery. Trust those pictures, Coachmans Cottage is really a dream come true that will make you feel so at home you'll wish you could stay for good. And you get your own private parking space, too! Penny and Peter are the kindest and most helpful hosts you can imagine. That Award is more than deserved. Steeple Ashton is a charming village about which a complete book has been written (available for reading in the cottage), and the local pub serves excellent food. And if you don't feel like eating out, you can cook up anything you want in the beautiful and well-equipped kitchen. I could go on for hours about all the lovely places we visited during our stay, but you oughta experience it yourselves! Highly recommended, naturally! Hope we can come back soon... Loved steeple ashton
Steeple Ashton and the Coachman's Cottage are both very lovely. My husband, myself, and our 2 teenage children were very comfortable. Although very quiet and small; (which we were looking for) the village did have an excellent pub to eat at and a shop to pick up everyday items as well as freshly baked goods. There are several walking trails from here. You are in the Cotswolds so everything is a walk or drive away. We also visited Stonehenge and Avebury. Was more impressed with Avebury that Stonehenge but enjoyed both. We also visited LaCock a small town that Penny recommended and enjoyed out time there walking the village and visiting the Abby and church. The trees were starting to blossom and daffodils were in bloom this made the villages picture perfect.

Lovely English countryside!
Our family had a wonderful stay at the Coachman's Cottage this past April. We are a family of four with 2 teenage sons. They were comfortable in their own bedroom, and we all easily shared the well equipped bathroom. The kitchen was cozy but had everything we needed, and we enjoyed breakfast and snacks in the cottage many times. The area is absolutely stunning countryside and easy to navigate by car. The pub is quaint and offers food that is not only standard pub fare-we thoroughly enjoyed our meals there. Penny was extremely accommodating-always ready to answer our questions, offer advice or give directions. She even organized a trip to the church to watch the bell ringing in the steeple-it was truly an amazing experience and a nice opportunity to meet the local villagers. When I hear church bells now it has a more meaningful sound to me and brings back good memories of our wonderful time there. It was very easy to take the train to Bath for the day and enjoy the lovely sights there. The other small trips we took were easily traveled by car. Our weather was perfect and we wished our stay had been longer. We have traveled extensively and lived in 6 different countries but our time spent in Steeple Ashton at Coachman's Cottage will always be remembered as a special experience. I highly suggest a visit.

About the host

Host profile image
We have been welcoming guests to Coachmans Cottage since 2006, so after 18 years we hope we know what will make you love your stay and want to return... very many do return.
We live next door and so are on site to manage the cottage.
Our sister business is The Antiques Source, with over 50 years experience there. Hence the cottage is furnished with antiques and some pieces might be available for sale when guests are resident.
We are, and always have been, owned by our beloved Golden Retrievers.

Why they chose this property

We first stumbled on Steeple Ashton over 45 years ago when we had to move to the area to be close to, and on hand for, elderly family.
The village is so amazing that I hope we will never have to move away.
With a number of very good local market towns for everything the village can't provide.

What makes this property unique

Coachmans oozes Country House Style wrapped in a Cottage skin.
Light and bright but at the same time spacious, comfortable and cosy.
It has a very welcoming atmosphere.........I would very happily live here.
