About this property

The Ambassador Palace

Palazzo L'Ambasciatore is a noble residence dating back to the second half of the 16th century. In the 18th century, it was owned by Oronzo Mattei, who served as ambassador of the Kingdom of Naples in Vienna. He was a close advisor to King Ferdinand and the lover of Queen Carolina. Local history recounts that the Queen stayed at this house on a couple of occasions when she visited him. We purchased the house in 2015. At that time, it had already been abandoned for over 40 years. The careful restoration carried out in 2018–2019 involved a dramatic modernization that nevertheless preserved much of the building’s unique original character. Solar panels provide energy for heating and cooling, and hot water is also supplied by solar energy. The tap water is excellent, so please do not buy bottled water at the supermarket. You’ll help reduce plastic use and save our planet for the future! Thank you!
