About this property

The Yoder’s on Somerset: Sleeps 1-6.

Nestled in the heart of Amish Country, this apartment gives you the peace of the country while being conveniently located only 4/10 of a mile from the center of Berlin. The apartment is a full walkout basement with lots of windows, two bedrooms, a full bath, and an open floor plan. Our desire is to provide a peaceful place to come home to after an enjoyable day of visiting all the quaint shops, seeing some great shows, sampling delicious bakeries and eating home-cooked meals at local restaurants.

The photos are accurate of what you will see when you get here. We desire to provide you with what you will need for a restful stay. There are no steps to access so it's very convenient. You will have a full kitchen, full refrigerator, stove and some cooking supplies. A large-55” TV in the living room and smaller ones in each bedroom with Roku and access to a variety of live/on demand tv apps if you want to relax in the evenings. Or you can sit on the front porch and hear the clip clop of buggies going by. Two bedrooms with queen-sized beds, a futon, an air mattress and large couch.

Our area is visited by people looking for quilts, crafts, family-friendly activities and shows, furniture stores, and seeing the Amish way of life. My husband and I both come from an Amish heritage. Our grandparents were Amish and our parents were Amish until after they were married. We were pastors for over 20 years and due to health reasons are retired from the pastorate.

From our home you can visit Berlin 1 minute, Walnut Creek 5-7 minutes, Mt. Hope 10 minutes, Charm 10 minutes, Millersburg 10 minutes, Sugarcreek 15 minutes, New Philadelphia 35 minutes, Wooster 35 minutes, Canton 55 minutes. There is a Dollar General within walking distance and grocery store within 1-3 minutes driving (walkable if you want). We are on the same road as Coblentz Country Cabins and Water's Edge Cabin.

Come and make memories in your private 1200 sq ft. getaway. Enjoy fun, laughter, music and games.

We look forward to being part of the memories you will make here in Berlin, Ohio.

About the host

Hosted by James and Carol Yoder

Host profile image
James and I were high school sweethearts and married in 1990 (so you can do the math), but just to give you a hint...that gives us over 30 years of marriage under our belts. We have two grown sons - our oldest married his college sweetheart in 2016 and moved to Los Angeles, CA to pursue their dream in the film industry. Our youngest son graduated from college in 2017 and is currently in Indianapolis. They are all gainfully employed which makes us quite happy. But now our nest is empty, giving us some extra space that needs some life.

Why they chose this property

The property we own is not a mansion but "our home is our castle". We have lived in this area our entire lives and have family close by. We love our community and the values represented here of family, hard work, and trusting in God. We have so many wonderful memories here already and look forward to making many more.

What makes this property unique

We've tried to give you a taste of our community and values by the things we placed in our apartment. My Amish grandmother's dining room table and the quilt she made for me are a couple of items. The Amish dress I wore as a tiny baby and photos of our heritage are included. The location of our property is ideal to hear the sound of buggies and bicycles. On one side our neighbors have chickens, and on the other a small pond sporting a fountain. The birds serenade us in the morning and at night. Peace in the midst of a busy life.
