About this property

Panoramic Ocean & Glacier Views | Northern Lights Cottage | Hellnar, Iceland

Experience the Magic of Snæfellsnes
Nestled in the heart of Snæfellsjökull National Park, this cottage offers a front-row seat to some of Iceland's most breathtaking natural wonders. Wake up to panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, dramatic lava fields, and the majestic Snæfellsjökull Glacier, one of Iceland's most iconic landmarks.
As darkness falls, step outside and look up. The area is recognized as one of the best places in Iceland to experience the Northern Lights, thanks to its remote location, minimal light pollution, and vast open skies. On clear winter nights, the Aurora Borealis may dance above the glacier and ocean, creating memories that last a lifetime.
Rising 1,446 meters above the peninsula, Snæfellsjökull is a glacier-capped volcano that has inspired travelers, artists, and explorers for centuries. Visible from Reykjavík on clear days across Faxaflói Bay, this magnificent peak gained worldwide fame as the entrance to the underground world in Jules Verne's classic novel Journey to the Center of the Earth.
Surrounded by black sand beaches, rugged sea cliffs, lava formations, charming fishing villages, and abundant wildlife, the Snæfellsnes Peninsula is often called "Iceland in Miniature" because it showcases so many of the country's most spectacular landscapes in one unforgettable region.
Whether you are seeking adventure, tranquility, breathtaking photography, or a chance to witness the Northern Lights from your doorstep, this is the perfect base for an unforgettable Icelandic escape.

The best place we stayed in Iceland!Beautiful property and excellent base for exploring the Snæfellsnes peninsula with our hire car. Incredible views from the window of a nearby church and very little light pollution. Able to hike to Arnarstapi via the lava fields straight out the front door. Property was comfortable, clean and cosy. Kitchen well equipped. Very helpful having a washer/dryer. Price was very fair for how wonderful it was!

Beautiful location with scenery that is absolutely glorious! This is the perfect home for two. It is small, but has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The stairs to the bedroom are challenging as they are very steep. We both just made sure we hung on to the railing to make certain we did not fall. Very clean property. Perfect as a jumping off point for the sites of the peninsula.

This is lovely, clean, comfortable home in a remarkable location.

This was a great getaway for my wife, 18 year-old son and I. The kitchen is well appointed, the beds were comfortable, and the whole home is easy to live in. Hellnar is really nicely placed to see the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. The surrounding hikes are easy to get to and pretty amazing. Like the rest of Iceland, the weather can be anything in Hellnar, but this house is always a delightfully comfortable place to be.

Amazing!

This lovely place in Hellnar was a wonderful restful place to make our home base during a few days on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. The cottage is lovely and clean and well-equipped. It was easy to explore the national park and there is a lovely hiking trail to the next town Arnarstappi. We cooked at home a few nights and had an amazing dinner at the local hotel (just a short walk down the road). Definitely would stay here again!

This place was beautiful!

The property is absolutely beautiful, could not ask for a better location. It was clean and had plenty of space. The restaurants near by were very good and the host was very quick to respond when I needed help with something. My only disappointment was there was not a bathtub like the pictures showed. host was very quick to respond

Nice option in snaefellsnes peninsula

Cute little house, fully self contained with a great kitchen. The TV room is so cozy. Comfy beds. It is in a group of similar houses, so there are other people around, but the area is very quiet. Had fish soup and coffee daily at the little cafe at the old "harbor". Beautiful hiking along the cliffs easy walk from the house.

Host profile image

My name is Berglind and I am the proud owner of this unique cottage in Hellnar. I love welcoming guests and sharing the beauty of Snæfellsnes, one of Iceland's most spectacular regions. We take great care to ensure every guest enjoys a comfortable and memorable stay. Whether you're here to admire the glacier, watch the Northern Lights, or simply relax and take in the panoramic views, I hope you'll feel at home and create lasting memories during your visit.

Why they chose this property

This cottage has been our family's holiday home for many years and holds a special place in our hearts. We recently completed a full refurbishment so that visitors from around the world can enjoy this extraordinary location and experience the beauty of Snæfellsnes just as we have.
What first drew us to Hellnar was its unique combination of peace, breathtaking scenery, and closeness to nature. There is something truly magical about watching the ever-changing views of the Atlantic Ocean, the majestic Snæfellsjökull Glacier, and the dramatic lava fields that surround the area. Every season offers something different, from the endless summer light to the spectacular Northern Lights that often dance across the winter sky.
We love the sense of freedom and tranquility here. Guests can enjoy scenic coastal walks, bird watching, photography, stargazing, and exploring the countless natural wonders of Snæfellsjökull National Park. The charming village of Hellnar, nearby Arnarstapi, black sand beaches, sea cliffs, lava formations, and hidden coves are all within easy reach.
Often called "Iceland in Miniature," the Snæfellsnes Peninsula showcases many of the country's most iconic landscapes in one remarkable destination. It is a place that captures the hearts of visitors, and many guests return again and again.
Whether you are seeking adventure, inspiration, or simply a peaceful retreat surrounded by some of Iceland's most spectacular scenery, we hope you will love this special place as much as our family does.

What makes this property unique

What makes this cottage truly unique is its exceptional location in the heart of Snæfellsjökull National Park, surrounded by some of Iceland's most spectacular scenery. From the cottage, you can enjoy panoramic views of both the Atlantic Ocean and the iconic Snæfellsjökull Glacier, creating a setting that feels peaceful, remote, and unforgettable.
This is a place where you can slow down and reconnect with nature. Spend your days exploring dramatic coastlines, lava fields, and scenic hiking trails, then relax in the evening beneath a sky full of stars. During the winter months, you may even witness the Northern Lights dancing above the glacier and ocean.
What guests love most is the sense of tranquility. There are few places where you can experience such natural beauty, privacy, and silence while still being close to many of Iceland's most famous attractions. Whether you are seeking adventure, romance, photography, or simply a peaceful escape from everyday life, this cottage offers a truly authentic Icelandic experience.
Many guests tell us that the views, the atmosphere, and the connection with nature make this one of the most memorable places they visit in Iceland.
Many guests arrive for a few days and leave wishing they had booked a week.
