The towns dramatic growth up until the 19th century owed much to the Ericht which flowed south from the cairngorms. The river powered mills, you can see today which processed raw jute from India and locally grown flax which were woven into linen in Blairgowrie for centuries.
Now famous for its Berry growing because of its mild climate and of course boasts the tallest hedge in the world with its famous beech hedge coming in to town.

Golfing
It’s no coincidence that Blairgowrie and Gleneagles are ensconced in the upper echelons of inland Golf in Scottish golfing venues as they’re blessed with the most sublime terrain over which to route a Golf course, many around the World may try to replicate similar layouts but it’s virtually impossible to reproduce what nature has provided in these celebrated Perthshire landforms. Locally there are 3 championship Golf courses and a few other magnificent courses at your disposal and day tickets are available.
There is Blairgowrie town course on Golf course road boasting Rosemount Course, Lansdowne Course and the Wee Course. then in Nearby Leroch we have Strathmore Golf centre and Aylth Golf Course as well as Glenisla 9 hole Golf Course.
