This stunning gatehouse has been tastefully renovated in 2017 and is in the middle of our picturesque 4,000 acre estate. It is deceptively large and comfortably sleeps four people with two bathrooms. A perfect base to explore the highlands and cities of Scotland (Edinburgh and Glasgow one hour drive, Stirling 40 minutes, Highlands, 5 minutes).

The East Gate Lodge was something out of a fairytale. The sheep in the meadow and getting to visit the castle was an extra treat. Beautiful place and great location for day trips. Would definitely recommend and stay again. The host is very kind and helpful. We really appreciated it.

Magical Castle is an Overstatement
This property should not be listed as a castle. It’s a gate house at best. The smell of must and mold is overpowering and the amount of insects in the home was disturbing.

Response from VrboOwner on 21 May 2025
Jared communicated to us that he found a live bee upon arrival, and that he was allergic which he did not make us aware of prior to his arrival. The property was built in 1795, and is a listed building situated in the countryside. Insects do make their way in occasionally. The owners take great care to ensure it is in good condition and there is no evidence of mould. We offered Jared alternative and more modern accommodation, however he did not take us up on this offer nor did he let us know that he had vacated the property early. This is the first complaint we have had in 8 years of letting East Lodge, and nobody has ever mentioned musty smells. Our reviews on other platforms are all five stars. Upon visiting Jared in the property to resolve any issues, he didn’t mention a musty smell and mould or point out any such thing and was happy to be shown how to use the bath tap. We are sad that Jared has left such a negative review as we are committed owners, trying to ensure the future of our historic houses.
