About this property

Idyllic cottage in peaceful rural location! Perfect for hikers and cyclists!

Get away from it all in a 200 year old semi-detached farm cottage with views over the Gare Loch and woodland on the Rosneath peninsula near elegant Helensburgh. Following the footpath at the end of our road you can climb to the summit of the peninsula, enjoy the amazing views and walk the forest tracks. The cottage has a spacious dining/kitchen room, a modern shower room, cosy double bedroom and a generous living area in the eaves of the house. All rooms are south facing and very light and sunny.

The semi-detached cottage enjoys a perfect location up a farm track (bumpy but perfectly ok with a normal car which all the lane's residents use) with beautiful Loch views. As we are set back from the small road going around the loch it is very peaceful while still being accessible. The farm track continues after the cottage up the hill and is perfect for hiking or more casual walks. The views from the hill are spectacular and if you walk along the forestry road on the top of the hill you come to a look out point with an awe-inspiring 360 degree view.

The cottage is a perfect getaway for those who want to immerse themselves in nature, positioned on a quiet peninsula between two sea lochs. These are home to seals, porpoises and an abundance of birdlife, while the surrounding hills are awash with deep green forest and purple heather and alive with jumping deer.

Whilst being the oldest part of our house, the cottage faces due south and is always light and airy. The space maintains its rustic historical character while offering modern conveniences to our guests. We have fitted good sized radiators into every room and the hot water is heated by a heat pump. We also have solar panels on the roof which cover most of our energy needs in the summer months.

This is an old cottage, full of character and also many lumps and bumps, in keeping with its history. We also believe strongly in repairing and upcycling wherever possible and you will find evidence of this around the cottage - from old doors reused as counter tops to repurposed cupboards.

The light yet cosy bedroom comfortably sleeps two in a standard double bed with a warm feather duvet.

A newly installed shower room has a large shower cubicle, toilet and handbasin, perfect for refreshing after a day in the Scottish wilds.

The attic sitting room in the eaves is cosy, warm and ideal for reading and relaxing after a day out exploring the hills.

The kitchenette doesn't have an oven or hob but does boast a full range of appliances to help you cook up a feast (air fryer, microwave, toaster, kettle, cafetiere, slow cooker, fridge and freezer...as well as the inevitable kitchen sink!). The freezer has a selection of delicious home cooked frozen meals which you can purchase from us (only £7 for a two person meal) and warm up in the microwave. These meals are made by a South African lady running a very successful delicatessen in Garelochhead. This is a very popular option! The dining area includes a large table and chairs.

The only shared area is the entrance hall through the traditional cottage front door. From this entrance hall (where you are welcome to leave your muddy boots) you turn left into your private space through a second door.

Outside, there is a picnic table for meals on sunny days and a small area of private woodland which you are free to explore.

We only let the cottage part time, the rest of the time it is home for visiting family members and friends. If you need a particular date, please ask us and we may be able to free up the days required. This will be a beautiful and cosy space for two guests throughout the seasons and we would love for you to come and visit!

Pablo and I have spent many years living abroad and have just returned to my native Scotland. What a beautiful country it is!

As our old traditional farm cottage has two parts, each independent of the other apart from a shared entrance hall, we have decided to share our beautiful location with private guests. We live in a spectacular area with many wonderful places to visit and great places to eat and drink. We have set up a website with information for our guests which we can share once you are booked.

We have three dogs: two elderly labradors and a young rescue spaniel. They will all be pleased to see you!

We hope you decide to come and stay with us and experience this amazing country and its friendly people!

Why they chose this property

We chose this area because of the stunning mix of lochs and hills, its wildlife, the friendly people, its extensive history and natural beauty.

What makes this property unique

The position of the cottage between the loch and the hill and set back from the road make it very special.
