Starting point for exploration of the Marne area and National Park Lauwersmeer

Tucked away among the trees, you can hear the birds singing in the trees from this former railway house. With a cosy living room, a large kitchen, and 5 nostalgic bedrooms, the house can accommodate up to 10 people. The living room of this authentic holiday home features a large sofa, several comfortable chairs, and a large dining table where you can all gather together. Settle into the easy chair with one of the many books from the bookshelf to lose yourself in an exciting storey. The long table offers plenty of space to eat together, play games, and spend hours reminiscing and creating new memories. In the spacious kitchen, you’ll find everything you need to cook for your friends. While one person prepares a delicious meal, another can enjoy an aperitif at the kitchen table and keep the cook company.

There are five double bedrooms, one of which is on the ground floor. Each room is decorated with great charm, featuring beautiful nostalgic furniture and decorative elements. Both the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms are equipped with a spacious shower, toilet, sink, and heated floors. In addition, the upstairs bathroom has a lovely bathtub, and the downstairs bathroom has a washing machine/dryer combo, so you can take your laundry home clean.

Outside is a cosy garden with string lights and a fire pit for atmospheric evenings, as well as lovely seating areas. You can choose to sit at the wooden table under the canopy, in the cosy nook under the gabled roof, or in the snug round seating area near the fruit trees. Wherever you are, you’re always connected to one another, while the string lights and fire pit provide extra warmth and ambiance.

Next to the house is the reception area for the adjacent canoe campground. Here you can rent canoes and bicycles to explore the Marenland and Wierdenland regions of Groningen, as well as Lauwersmeer National Park.

Nature

't Spoorhuis is located near Lauwersmeer National Park, where—with the fresh sea breeze in your hair—you can enjoy the beautiful, expansive landscape, the unique flora and fauna, stunning cloud formations, and breathtaking views. The area is particularly appealing to birdwatchers, especially during bird migration season. In addition to the many opportunities for biking and hiking, you can also go mudflat walking here. It’s a unique way to experience this beautiful piece of world heritage.

The Marnewaard military training area is part of the Lauwersmeer region, one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Netherlands.

The Groninger Hogeland offers plenty of space for boating, hiking, biking, exploring cultural or historical sights, visiting charming villages and towns, and discovering this surprising region.


Activities

This area is ideal for a variety of water sports. Swimming, sailing, canoeing, surfing, and even kitesurfing are all possible in this stunning region. Discover the rare darkness in the Dark Sky Park and experience what you can see in true darkness. A highly recommended special day trip is a cruise on the museum ship ZK 4 from the Zoutkamp Fishing Museum. There’s a good chance you’ll spot seals on the sandbars! After a walk through the woods across the Hooghooltje, you’ll reach the village playground in about 10 minutes.

Cities and towns

Admire one of the most beautiful villages in the Netherlands: Winsum, just a 20-minute drive from Zoutkamp. Drive a little further and visit the charming city of Groningen with its rich culture and history.

Would you also like to visit Friesland? Then head to the charming (shopping) centre of Dokkum, the northernmost city of the Frisian Eleven Cities.
