About this property

Classic Historic Lake Morey Summer Cottage

Three story historic private 100-year-old rustic lake cottage at the North end of Lake Morey. Private artesian well and septic system. Beginning with the top floor: 4 bedrooms, sleeps 10 adults, and share 2 full bathrooms. Two lakeside bedrooms share a large porch. One lake side bedroom has a king-sized bed with a ceiling fan, the other bedroom has two twin beds and a twin day bed with trundle. The lakeside bedrooms have the only air conditioning units in the home. The two bedrooms across the hall from the lakeside rooms each have queen sized beds. There are several portable electrical fans to move around as needed, including a large commercial floor fan.

The main living floor has a ½ bath, large living and dining space with a dining table that seats 8 and a smaller table for two. There is a large sectional sofa with a Smart TV, satellite TV and WIFI. From the living and dining area you walk through the library, which contains a love seat that folds out into a twin sized bed, to the kitchen. The kitchen is in the back of the building with a full-size refrigerator (NO ice maker.) gas stove and oven, dishwasher, coffee pot, toaster and microwave. Pots, pans, assorted dishes, platters, glasses – including wine and champagne, coffee cups, silverware and utensils make preparing meals, entertaining and lobster dinners easy. One additional refrigerator on the lakeside porch, WITH an ice maker, behind the bar, make storing all that party food and beverages easy. There is a room off the kitchen that contains the washer and dryer and a place for trash and recycling.

The porch! One of the best on the lake! Refrigerator, bar and large vintage Coke cooler just add ice. The best place on the lake for July 4th fireworks!

If you are not familiar with Lake Morey or Fairlee, Vermont you can go to the Town’s website for Town information and events. July 4th is a great time to visit to enjoy the parade (or be in the parade!) and view the fireworks from the porch in the evening. Bring your boat and and keep it at our private dock. Great skiing and fishing. In Town is Wings Market for groceries and Chapman’s Store for fun eclectic gifts and wine. In the next town north, Bradford, is a large Hannaford Grocery with a full liquor store.

Trash and recycling service is available and will be discussed at the time of your booking and will differ depending on the length of your stay. . 7 night minimum. Monthly available. Weekly cleaning available for longer stays at your expense.

The un-fun adult stuff: This is not a “child proofed” home and you must be able to use stairs – we have lots of stairs and THE LAKE. You are welcome to bring your young family but be mindful of your location. Pack a bag and come and enjoy our lake house and make memories you will never forget! (Currently the basement is not available for rental and remains our personal space and storage.)

Great location and old architecture. But definitely needs investment to replace all the plumbing.
We filled the house with three generations of my wife's family, all attending our son's wedding at nearby Camp Lanakila. The owners are most helpful and gracious and the house is well outfitted with two Sunfish sailboats, kayaks, etc. We swam in the lake on three of our four mornings. The great room with its high ceilings, covered porch facing east and south, was plenty big for all of us. The beds are comfortable and we slept well with the breezes off the lake. We would definitely stay there again. But fair warning: the plumbing fixtures are archaic and must be original to the house. The kitchen has a portable dishwasher that works well but the old enameled, cast iron sink and counter are out of a movie set. Likewise the little bedroom sinks have separate hot and cold spigots that barely reach into the sink bowl. One of the showers backed up and leaked into the great room below. Hot water was plentiful if inclined to fluctuate in temperature. The bathroom wall and floor tiles had grotty grouting. Lastly, the windows would benefit from a cleaning to get rid of the spider webs, spiders, dust, pine needles, etc. This is a unique property that we really enjoyed but may not be for the squeamish. They should go to the Holiday Inn Express down the road.

Why they chose this property

This 100 year old lake house was purchased by Tony's grandfather more than 100 years ago. It has been owned by the Gahagan family for all those years. It has been enjoyed by the family and for many years it was a rental. After Tony and I married, we have been able to enjoy the property for the last 25 years. Now as we are planning our retirement and plan more travels and other adventures, we have decided to share this treasured spot.

What makes this property unique

This property is located at the North end of Lake Morey and offers wonderful sun rises and sun sets. The porch has hosted many parties. The Lake Morey Golf Course is at the south end of the lake. Lake Morey is a wonderful clean and beautiful lake where you can fish (after buying a license) or water ski. There are hiking trails nearby. Fairlee is a wonderful small town with a famous July 4 parade and fireworks display. Come and party, enjoy the beautiful nature or just relax. Whatever you choose you will have wonderful memories of your stay.
