About the host
Hosted by Dave Ungless
Good morning to you all. My name is Dave, I am the owner of The Old Farmhouse which has been in my family for the last thirty-five years. My three daughters grew up in the house but, as ever, we all moved on. I am a retired business owner, journalist and author specialising in sea adventures and travel - my wife Marie and I decided to live onboard our sailing vessel which we are slowly sailing around the world. This may sound exotic but our lifestyle is subsistence based - imagine trying to live your life on continuous 12 volts without the amenities you’d expect in a modern home. At times our ocean passages can be challenging and tough.
More lately we do spend time in the UK, being retired and at retirement age I have a growing army of grandchildren - which means my time-dynamics are changing and sometimes are as equally challenging as sailing the seas. But I love my role as the itinerant no-rules grandfather, I relish the opportunity to teach my grandchildren all the bad habits that, in my opinion, they need to get through life and to one day be a success. Much to the chagrin of my three daughters, my teachings seem to be well received and put beaming smiles on my grandchildren’s happy faces.
Now that is an achievement to be proud of.
