A quaint cottage in a quiet neighborhood , walking distance to beach and town.
A natural forested park with trails great for our dog .
Deer everywhere.
Living room could use a more comfortable chair and the stairs were more than we wanted to handle so we never used the upstairs bedroom and bath.
The downstairs bedroom were small but comfortable .
We really enjoyed the house overall.
This is a great place to stay. It is close to beaches and downtown. Our son lives a couple of blocks away so we have stayed there four times. Our daughter's fmily has joined us several times. It is comfortable and homey. We are able to prepare and serve dinner for the whole family.
We loved it. We were very happy with the location, size, driveway, carport, yard and house. It was exactly as described. It was clean, and the yard has a weekly landscaping crew to clean up. Upstairs bed and master bath was comfortable. There was a space heater to warm up the bathroom before showering. Our son and family visited for 3 nights, and said the downstairs beds were comfortable. Living room couch is a sofabed, as we had read in other reviews. Due to winter rainstorms we did have ants come into the kitchen, but property manager responded promptly with external insecticide, and we set out ant traps and stored food in ziploc bags. In the carport, there were posts with bird netting which we used to close off the back yard for our chihuahua, although we never let him out unattended. We enjoyed sitting in the sun in the two seating areas in the backyard. We enjoy walking and hiking, but if you don't, there are free parking spots in the village shopping district. George Washington Park for dog walking is 1 block away.*Be aware people let dogs off leash.

Perfect location, uncomfortable furniture
Walking to parks, coffee, lunch, and the beach. Such a great location. Good internet as well.
But, my wife who has back problems, couldn’t find a comfortable spot in the house. The only non-painful seat for her was in our car. One decent chair would have made such a difference. Better lighting in the kitchen would help as well.
The property manager was great, very helpful. And the nearby beaches and restaurants can’t be beat.
We love Pacific Grove and town. Very quiet and much less tourist traffic from Carmel (15 mins away).
This is a nicely remodeled 100 year old cottage, as are many of the homes in this very quiet, very safe neighborhood. Yes the upstairs master floor creaks but our guests never complained as they had such a wonderful time. Yes there were small (little amber) ants, but keeping foods sealed tightly, counters and floors clean (wiped or damp mopped several times a day) keep them to a minimum annoyance. It was unusually wet/rainy while were there. Neighbors all very nice. House next door is rather unkept, but the owner is a military vet who kept to himself and was very nice in the rare encounter.
Furniture was fine, as was cable and internet.
Master bath upstairs was nice, as was the full bath downstairs. The master bed and 3rd br down are soft. Larger BR down with french doors that open to patio was new bed.
It's about a 15-20 min walk down the hill to Asilomar Beach and walking/bike path (someone said the bike bath goes to Santa Cruz - I rode my bike 6-9 miles one way. Off road. Very nice!) My wife walked our dogs there daily (why we come back). 15 min. walk to PG town.
The property manager Kristina was exceptional. Always available and always quick to respond to anything. Thanks for the Aquarium passes.
Spanish Bay Inn and Resort 10 mins. away (STICKS Grill was our favorite - great views). Of course sunset bagpipe tradition at the main lodge is unique.
enjoy!
This was our fourth stay on Chestnut so we obviously like it. It is a couple of blocks from my son's house so that influences our opinion. However it is an easy walk to downtown and also to Asilomar beach and the public golf course which has a nice cafe. There is a park a block away and the butterfly sanctuary is about 5 blocks away, so it really is a good location for anyone. We usually stay there with just two of us -- an older couple. However my daughter's family has visited for several days each trip and we have had friends visit. It is comfortable for 6 adults. The kitchen is well equipped for basic needs and we eat most of our meals at home. It is a classic Pacific Grove cottage ---about 100 years old. Over the couple of years we have been staying there the owner has continued to make improvements which are appreciated. The dishwasher has been recently replaced and there is a new heater. The landscaping in front was in process when we were there this time. I look forward to seeing it.
We stayed at this property from mid-May to mid-June 2022.We would definitely stay again. The house is old ,as are most of the houses in the area, but is well maintained and comes with most of the conveniences for easy living. It does not have a garbage disposal but that was a very minor issue for us. Other reviews mention the beds as being too low and too soft. This is true. For a month long stay the bedding was unacceptable. Fortunately,Kristina the Property Manager, was able to replace one of the beds after our first week with a very comfortable bed and I have strongly urged her to have the owner replace the other two beds ASAP.I hope that happens so that more than one couple has a good bed.
The location of the house is excellent- within walking distance to both the cute town as well as the gorgeous beaches of the Monterey Peninsula. It has two full bathrooms which is a rarity for many of the older houses in the area.I t is pet friendly as is the entire area. The neighborhood is very quiet and friendly. We feel that this home is excellent value and hope to stay again in the future.
great location for walking, grove market, town, swimming at Lover's Point, and more. We hardly drove once we got there. Our host was most helpful in planning and coordination

Uncomfortable furniture & beds
Extremely uncomfortable beds, very low to the ground. Extremely uncomfortable sofa and living room chairs. Rusty patio furniture. Front decking was warped and unstable. However, remodeled bathrooms were good. House was clean.
Loved our stay in Pacific Grove! Walking distance to downtown, the walking path, and a short drive to all notable fun experiences. House was cozy and perfect and in a quaint neighborhood. Excellent!
We had a great time! The house was cozy, clean, and perfect for a group of friends looking to escape to the charm of the Monterey peninsula! Would definitely stay here again. Thanks -
What we liked:
- Great location. Can walk (under 10 min.) to the edge of downtown.
- Charming old house
- Front and back patios attractive spots for hanging out
- Lots of windows & light in kitchen and living room
- Modern kitchen
- Helpful property manager
- Large master bedroom and bathroom
- Rainfall showers
- Neighborhood is mostly very attractive
What other guests should be aware of:
- If you like soft beds, you'll enjoy sleeping here
- Downside of a charming old house is that there are floorboards that squeak and sound carries through the house
- Drywall patch on ceiling of first floor bathroom needs painting
- Recommend that before booking, property manager provides additional agreement/rules required to book property (they are not onerous, just would be simpler to provide before or at booking)
- additional insurance beyond the usual VRBO $1,000 deposit is required; this is good to know in advance
- per previous comments, there are ants in the kitchen (even with a clean property)
- A house next door and across the street are not cared for
That's the good and the
Charming cottage in the heart of Pacific Grove! Was the perfect size for 5 adults with plenty of room for dining and relaxing together at the house. Short walk to town and very quiet location. We enjoyed our stay very much!
Great house for a group with plenty of room to move around
This was an ideal house for 3 couples. We had plenty of room in the kitchen to cook breakfasts, 2 large bathrooms so didn't feel cramped yet it still has a unique cottage feel. Kristina was an amazing host with great local recommendations. She will ensure your stay is everything you hoped.
Easy walk down to Lovers Point beach and all that downtown Pacific Grove has to offer. You can also just walk 1. 5 miles and be at the Aquarium and Cannery Row. This house offers a perfect location.

Nice place for the weekend
Nice old house, kitchen and dining room great for cooking and hanging out with friends. Upstairs suite is great, although I felt a little guilty about having it while my friends just had bedrooms. Beds are just OK--I slept fine, but others in the group complained a little. Communication with the manager is excellent--responses are immediate and useful. Overall, a good place to stay while visiting the area.

Get away with the girls
We had a great time! It was wonderful being within walking distance of the ocean, though it would have been nice to have chairs and beach towels to take with us when we went to the beach. The cottage was pretty clean, but even though we did not leave food out, we had a big issue with ants - primarily on the counter to the right of the kitchen sink. We also had a problem with the the lighting -- a lot of the lamps did not work, not sure if it was because the bulbs were bad or the outlets did not work.
I would definitely come back to Pacific Grove. The people there were really friendly!

Excellent accomodation. would recommend
Excellent location and cottage. Worked perfectly for our visit, with 5 adults who liked to cook and hang out which was important as there were a couple of days of rain. Found everything we might need with little effort. Very simple instructions for exiting.
Would definitely look to stay when we might next be in Monterey/Pacific Grove.

Spacious house Close to Lover's Point and downtown Pacific Grove
The house had lots of room with a great kitchen and dining area. There were plenty of dishes, pots and pans, utensils to make you feel like home. Good size bedrooms and bathrooms for a cottage. The washer/dryer was a bonus. We stayed four days and had fun. The house is older and the upstairs bedroom creaked when you walked, so we had to be extra careful and quiet to not wake anyone below. Our group had two small children, ages 4 and 2, so the house was not best suited for them. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the house.

Cozy, comfortable and serene
The natural beauty of this property was not lost on us. A quiet street with clean rooms and only the necessary upgrades made this small home quaint. The wonderful rooms were accented with a few creature comforts that made getting in bed a welcome rest. The kitchen allowed us to cook dinner casually and easily. Updated bathrooms and kitchen kept us in the 21st century but the cozy appointments kept it livable and non-sterile.
