What an amazing experience! The house is a work of art and devoted like a natural history museum! The kayaking was incredible! Thank you for sharing this slice of paradise with us!
We loved our brief stay in Sadie Cove. Willie and Marcee were welcoming and helpful at every step. We enjoyed kayaking, wildlife watching, and reconnecting away from distractions. The home was well appointed and we had everything we needed for a great stay.
Everything we hoped for. Private, amazing cabin, with an unbeatable backdrop. Plenty of activities and wild life. Willie and Marcee were very gracious and made it all very easy. Thank you both, Aloha!

An Authentic Alaskan Adventure!
I cannot say enough good things about our stay at La Caleta. Marcee and Willie have such a fabulous spot nestled into Sadie Cove and are so gracious to share their place with everyone. The kayaking, fishing, beach combing for mussels and clams, sauna and everything in between was excellent. Our only regret is not staying another day or two and enjoying the sights even longer. Thank you very much for the opportunity to enjoy your cabin and I will definitely be back next year!
My husband and I live in Alaska and had family visiting this summer from out of state. We wanted to give them a more authentic and remote Alaskan experience and found La Caleta to be the perfect property! With two children, ages 5 and 10, and four adults this property was more than enough to keep the entire gang entertained! Even with some summer mist and rain there was plenty to do in Sadie Cove from kayaking, to fishing, beach combing, polar plunges and sauna warm ups, wildlife viewing and more!
The setting is serene and magical and you can see and feel the love, artistry, and passion Willie and Marcee put into this property over the years. It was magical in every way! I feel so grateful to have experienced their home and the deep connection it provides with nature.
It was a highlight of our summer and we can’t wait to go again!

Outstanding experience and hospitality!
We just came back from a 2 night stay here and everything was perfect! We had our own kayaks, which Willie easily transported for us from Homer. We take a lot of weekend kayak trips around Kachemak Bay and this is by far the best lodge and experience that we have found. Willie and Marcee helped us with all of our gear and kayaks when we arrived, and then took the time to show us around (they even have a satellite phone that can be used in emergencies if you are concerned about being in a remote location). The lodge has a great kitchen, a nice little bathhouse with piping hot running water, and a wood-fired sauna which was perfect and toasty after kayaking in the rain. The lodge is spacious and warm with a plentiful supply of dry firewood to keep the wood stove going, and there is even a huge drying rack by the stove to dry out soggy gear. Willie and Marcee have thought of everything - even leaving us a bottle of Chilean wine that we enjoyed so much, we stopped to buy more of on our way out of Homer. :-) This VRBO is great for us as a couple, but is so spacious it would be fun for a group or family vacation (kids would have an adventure here tide pooling!). We consider this to be one of our best VRBO "finds" yet!
My wife and I and our three boys were in Alaska for 3 weeks and this place was hands down the entire family's favorite spot - and we went to many amazing places. The setting is breath taking, surrounded by wildlife and mountains, and so secluded. The kyaks were great. The house is so unique and wonderful. The owners are just the best people. If you really want to get a taste of real Alaska - this is it. Thank you so much Wille and Marcie for sharing this with us. We will never forget this magical place.
This lodge is thoughtfully built and maintained by its hosts Marcee and Willie on a secluded, breathtaking fjord in the gorgeous Kachemak Bay State Park. Access is only by boat, and it couldn't have been simpler coordinating our roundtrip transportation through Homer's Harbor and Boat Launch with Willie. Bring your groceries and rain jackets, but otherwise the property has everything you need to discover all of the beauty and ruggedness of Sadie's Cove. Kayaking, swimming, hiking, abundant wildlife -- and then a cozy, warm, and dry cabin and sauna to return to when the clock says the day is over. Thank you Marcee and Wille, you gave us the perfect vacation.
We enjoyed everything about this property! Marcee and Willie have created such a beautiful and comfortable place for families to gather. We enjoyed kayaking, beach combing, hiking up to the waterfall and fishing. My brother, husband and son brought in a 50 lb halibut while fishing in the kayaks! That is a memory we will always cherish! The main house house is equipped with refrigerator, stovetop, oven, running water, and wood burning stove (with ample firewood supplied). There is hot water for washing dishes and showering. The extra bed in the bunk house provided a private sleeping space for my brother and sister in law. Thank you Marcee and Willow for sharing your home with us! We can’t wait to get back!
We had a wonderful stay at the cabin, which is in a uniquely lush rain forest environment. It was comfortable and well maintained. We kayaked the bay and walked the coast (at low tide) every day. There was a resident sea otter that was a ton of fun to watch. Really great place to unplug and relax.
Marcee and Willie were so helpful and kind. We had no problem getting the info we needed and really appreciate their sharing this place with us.
Wow! All I can say is this place was absolutely beautiful. My boys and I went Kayaking, hiking on the shore, identified sea life and explored the cove. The sauna, fire pit and amenities are amazing. Thank you!
Willy and Marcee's place is a labor or love and deserves much more than 5 stars! They are very kind hosts--you feel like old friends the second you meet them. The location was so beautiful and peaceful. We LOVED the sauna and enjoyed kayaking and watching the wildlife both inside and outside of the water (Bear, bald eagles, sea otters, jellyfish, etc). We were amazed by the workmanship and many special details. We loved sitting on the deck soaking in the view--heavenly!
It is a very one-of-a-kind opportunity to stay here, and the views alone outweigh any cons by far, but for the price, there are some things that could be improved upon. I only mention it because with how remote it is, there is no going to the store to grab something or contacting the host for needed things (except for an emergency of course).
The cabin could be better stocked in the essentials, though there was plenty of TP. (hand soap, paper towels, garbage sacks, dishsoap, charcoal for grill--we were low or out on these things). There was only one towel per person and only one blanket per bed which we made due ok, but it was pretty slim pickin's. (We definitely could have used some extra throw blankets.)
Also, the beds are very uncomfortable--you can feel the springs through the mattress, and the sheets are scratchy. Only one or two of the beds have box springs, so memory foam or something like that would have helped make for a better night's rest. The cabin is clean but the sheets gave me allergies--not sure if they are stored somewhere where they collect dust???
Also be prepared to bring your own entertainment--one of the days of our stay it poured rain the entire day, and there was not much to do in the cabin. There are a couple of games provided (clue and backgammon), but a few more games/novels would have helped make a rainy day a 5 star experience too.
Be aware that the boat ride from Homer to the cabin is uncovered and exposed to the elements. We were lucky that it wasn't raining coming or going, but it was still a pretty cold boat ride for June. Be prepared and dress warmly for the ride.
I don't want this to sound like a negative review, because we all REALLY loved our time spent at the cabin, and both Willy and Marcee were awesome to work with, but I would have wished for a better night's sleep.
Our family loved this property. It was a relaxing getaway for 2 adults and 4 children (ages 4 to 12). Our only regret was that we didn't stay longer! Be sure to bring rubber boots for tide pooling each day.
This is a carefully curated place of deep experience -- beautiful, secluded, a chance to unwind and feel present with the most stunning things of the earth. No wifi, no phones, just you and the water and the mountains and the light. And kayaks. Marcee and Willy are special people and they have built something very beautiful which we are lucky to share. We savored it deeply.

Spectacular views and lovingly built cabin
Our stay at this beautiful cabin in Sadie Cove could not have been more perfect. Willie and Marcee were welcoming and gracious hosts and the location was absolutely stunning. It was incredibly peaceful and private and we spent many hours exploring the cove by kayak, hiking, eating fresh mussels from the beach and just reading and relaxing on the lovely deck while taking in the awesome views. The cabin was wonderfully unique and comfortable and we would love to return some day. Great memories with our family!

Magical and Enchanting
My husband and I had 3 magical days at La Caleta. The home is absolutely stunning. Not just the views, which are magnificent but also the artistry of the home itself. We collected blue lip mussels (the sweetest mussels you could imagine), clams (there was an exceptionally low tide so we could harvest butter and little neck clams), we fished, hiked, read, played cards and connected with nature. Marcee and Willie are wonderful, kind and helpful people that are easy to connect with and call friends. The boat ride with Willie was very cool. Prepare to come back home revitalized and renewed.

The Best
I just stayed here for a week with a couple friends who chose this as their wedding location. Couldn't have been more perfect.
I only briefly met Marcee at the end of our time there, and she was great. Willie is a super charming, classy, genuinely nice guy. He was very accommodating of all 4 of us and made a lot of effort to make it a great stay. I would love to spend a day fishing with him, you can tell he's got a lifetime of stories and knowledge.
The place is amazing. It's full of little curiosities that seem to be really meaningful to Willie and Marcee, not just some tacky decorator crap. The craftsmanship of the cabins, the hydroelectric system, the sauna, even the outhouse, is all amazing. Lots of the structure is made of native rock, reclaimed wood, and other materials. We were constantly seeing new little features and cool things about the work that Willie and Marcee have put into it. I feel like I know them just from being there and seeing their work. I could go on at length. The sauna can work up a serious heat and was an awesome touch. One thing to note: there are no curtains anywhere. While you don't need them for privacy at all, this means that it is never dark inside the house during the summer. Take a sleep mask or something like that if you're not used to 22 hours of daylight.
The location is very secluded. We only saw a few boats the whole time we were there. Kayaking up and down the cove is really rewarding; it's protected enough that there's not a lot of wave action. Occasional porpoises come through, and there are a lot of sea and land otters, not to mention birds. The view is constantly amazing, and changes hourly depending on the light hitting it and the clouds and rain.
Perfect choice for people who are used to being alone in the wilderness, are relatively self-sufficient, and don't need lots of very modern comforts.
I really hope I can spend some time there again and experience the company of Willie and Marcee. Vacation of a lifetime.

5 Stars is not enough!
This place easily deserves 10 stars! This is our 3rd year enjoying La Caleta and we've managed to bring a different couple with us each time. They were equally thrilled with the Cabin and all the amenities within. The weather this time around was the best yet with nearly 3 full days of sunshine and calm water for great boating and kayaking. We caught and ate fresh fish, beach-combed, took hundreds of photos, laid in the sun, enjoyed a few campfires, BBQ'd, played some guitar and enjoyed a hot sauna each night. I can't get enough of this place and I'm sure everyone that has had the pleasure of enjoying La Caleta would say the same thing. Thanks very much to Marcee and Willie once again for providing us with a wonderful summer vacation. You guys are such great hosts and we look forward to coming back again next year. To everyone else reading these reviews, go and check the place out for yourselves - I guarantee you will not be disappointed!

Our Remarkable Adventure
My husband surprised me with a trip to Alaska and after looking at VRBO he stumbled upon La Caleta. He wanted a place where we could escape from everyday life and reconnect with each other. He could not have done better. The house is immaculate. This is extremely to important to me and my expectations were completely met. The house had everything we needed in order to enjoy ourselves. The views are remarkable. Inside was warm and cozy. What a wonderful way to spend a vacation. We awoke in the morning to breathtaking views, made breakfast, sat on the deck reading books, strolled the beach or kayaked the emerald green waters. We collected mussels and clams to prepare for lunch and dinner. My husband would get the sauna ready for me to relax in. We were free, relaxed, inspired, comfortable, undisturbed, and completely taken care of. Every suggestion made by the hosts were spot on and we couldn't have been more impressed and grateful for the care and help they gave us. The tour Willie gave us on his boat was fantastic and the hike suggested had the most breath taking views were have ever encountered and I should say that we have hiked all over Central and North America. My life long dream has always been to see grizzly bears. With the help of Marcie he was able to find the perfect pilot and guide. Marcie took on this challenge as if it were her dream. I couldn't have been happier. We will definitely visit again and look forward to being able to bring our children one day too. It is obvious that Willie and Marcie put a lot of the hearts and souls into building this home. Every detail in the home has a personal touch. They truly have welcomed us into their home and it is obvious that they not only love this home but also love to share it with people will truly appreciate it. I honestly could sit and stare outside at the water for hours.
For our Vacation we chose to follow the path of Robert Frost as suggested in the Road Not Taken
"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference. " Thank you Gary and Elizabeth

The Best Wilderness Vacation Rental of ALL TIME!
My wife and I make a point to seek out wilderness cabins for our vacation adventures, and La Caleta sets the standard for striking a perfect balance of beauty, amenities, seclusion and convenience.
Tucked deep into Sadie Cove, across the bay from Homer, AK, La Caleta is an artist's or sportsman's dream. The views out the front window are nothing short of astounding, and the surrounding waters and state park make the great outdoors super-accessible by low-tide hikes and excursions in the provided sea kayaks.
The cabin itself is a wilderness masterpiece, with more comforts and conveniences than one can reasonably expect so far off the grid. Electricity is provided by a clever water-powered system, which makes enough juice to run a small refrigerator, lights, a stereo and outlets to charge up your camera batteries.
The kitchen is well appointed with dishes, pots, pans and utensils to pull of pretty much anything you want to make on the small propane-powered stove. The water is potable, and heated by an on-demand propane system.
If you're looking for an off-the-grid vacation in one of the most beautiful places imaginable, I can't recommend La Caleta in the summer highly enough.

Keeps Getting Better All The Time!!!
Once again, Willie and Marcee were able to share their wonderful slice of heaven with us. We brought some new guests with us for our second visit and they cannot stop talking about the great time they had. Eagles, fishing, sauna, beach combing, kayaking, bear viewing...the list goes on and on. I have no doubt in my mind we will be back again next summer to enjoy another getaway in Sadie Cove. Thank you very much, Marcee and Willie for the fantastic memories!

A Very Special Place with Fantastic Views!
We spent 4 days and 3 nights at La Caleta and the only thing we would ever change is the departure date! It is an amazing place that has to be experienced to truly understand the magnitude of its beauty. Willie and Marcee have created a very special place in the middle of nature's unspoiled splendor. We spent our days kayaking the fjord gazing at the amazing jellyfish and starfish and watching the eagles. We had beach fires, fires to relax by in the house, and even fires in the sauna! The best part was the absence of others and the feeling only the remoteness can produce. We will be back!
