From this 2nd story apartment loft, you can oversee all of downtown Hays, overlook many of the large stone churches, view the amazing Kansas sunset every evening, and wake up to the morning sun shining through your oversized picture window. This property is within walking distance of 2 parks, convenience stores, the entertainment, arts, dining, shopping, and business district of Downtown Hays as well as located along the Hays Bike Trail system. Looking to get to Fort Hays State University, it's under 5 minutes away!

The owners have done a really nice job creating the perfect place from which to explore Hays. Their attention to detail is impressive. The loft was extremely clean and comfortable, and the location was perfect...just a short walk to downtown.

Excellent Family Road Trip Stopover

We were taking a cross-country road trip, with a family of 4 (2 parents, 2 year old, 9 year old), and this was an excellent stopover on our way. The rooms were excellent, and the location was great for family -- just a few blocks from the nearest playground. Check-in instructions were straightforward and easy to follow, and the rooms were clean and well organized. We really enjoyed our stay in Hays, and would highly recommend!

We are the Leiker's and we manage the Chestnut Loft. We are local to the Hays area, have a family farm south of Hays and operate a number of businesses. We love to travel the world and bring back many of those experiences to Hays

Why they chose this property

This property is situated near the start of Downtown Hays and has a lot curb appeal and history. The main house was constructed in 1948 by the local downtown jeweler. Since taking ownership in 2010, we have had on-going renovations and construction to restore the property and bring it to current codes. The house was featured in the regional Das Haus magazine in 2014 for it's unique renovations. In 2011 adjoining property was purchased and the lot expanded in late 2016. On Valentine's Day 2017, framing for what is now the Chestnut Loft began with construction finished by Nov 1, 2017. This property is one of the well known houses in Hays showcasing it's original Italian stained glass window, exaggerated chimney and bright red rounded front door. The loft building was built mirroring the original appearance of the main house and it utilized by travelers, executives, and families wanting all the comforts and conveniences of a Downtown Hays experience while having privacy, security, and tranquility.

The Chestnut Loft features a location that is unseen in this area. Being in the Downtown district, popular restaurants, bars, entertainment, shopping and art are literally just a walk away. The loft is also the only fully private property located in the city. Enjoy peace, tranquility and rest while you are here knowing that that property is yours! If you like the outdoors, literally when you walk out the door you are underneath of the pergola with comfy seating, egg chairs, tables and an experience that will make you forget you are located in the downtown area!
