Our cabin was perfect for the 4 of us. We had everything we needed in the kitchen. The location was great for all of our Black Hills adventures. There was a power outage while we were here and the hosts kept us updated with information about the outage and when it was expected to be fixed.
The Elk Haven cabin was a perfect place to stay for our trip to the Black Hills. It was clean and comfortable. The location felt remote and private. We would stay there again!
Communication with the host was easy and efficient. Cabin was pretty much what we expected, we were traveling with 2 dogs, so the cabin worked out well for them. We've never stayed at a vrbo before, so weren't sure what to expect, but were a bit put off by the "binder" on the table with instructions on how to care for the cabin. We've always been clean and well behaved guests anywhere we've stayed, but to have an outline of what was expected and how to clean up after ourselves and directions on how to strip the beds when we left was a little over the top, had a difficult time relaxing while at the cabin, felt monitored. Again, we are clean people, whenever we've left a property, even a hotel, we've always picked up after ourselves, gathered all the laundry (towels, etc.) and placed them in a pile in the bathroom, took our own trash out, etc. But to be told to strip the bedding and place it in a basket, vacuum the floors, sweep, etc. kind of took the vacation feel away and put it back to being at home, if I wanted to do chores, I would have planned day trips and stayed home. We were charged for "cleaning fees" and a pet fee, pet fees were a little high, but expected. We cleaned everything, we vacuumed, wiped out appliances, cleaned the bathroom, shower, etc, I'm thinking we'll stay at a hotel next time we travel and save ourselves from having to be our own maid service and charged for it too. The area was great and we enjoyed our time when we were away from the cabin.
This property feels like you’re out in the country, yet you are three minutes from downtown Custer. A cozy, comfortable cabin that is a great home base for a Black Hills/Custer State Park vacation. The owners are attentive and available, and the cabin has nearly everything you’ll need. Highly recommended.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Elk Haven. Beth and Kris were great hosts, both are friendly and very helpful. Our cabin was cozy and well appointed. Would highly recommend!
Great cabin tucked in the black hills but close to Custer! Morning visits by deer and super peaceful! Hosts were great checking in to see if we needed anything! I highly recommend!
We were very pleased with the cabin and all of the amenities it had to offer. We were there 5 nights, wish it could have been longer. Spent a couple evenings out by the firepit. Beautiful scenery and wildlife nearby. Cabin was near town but away enough that we did not see much traffic. Thank you for a great experience.
This cabin was a great location just outside the town of Custer and convenient spring board for my kids and I to see a great deal of the Black Hills area. Having never been to the region before our only regret was that we didn't stay at this cabin the entirety of our visit.
The host was responsive to questions, checked in on us at the beginning to ensure there were no issues, and was very understanding when we had to return again after checkout to retrieve an item forgotten by my son.
The cabin is tucked away on the edge of the woods, was clean, efficient in use of space with a small living area, but still has everything you need to cook some meals and sleep comfotably, which is all the time we spent there, being out and about the rest of the time hiking and exploring sights. The kids loved the "separate but together" beds in the divided loft.
Beautiful setting, no issue with privacy or noise from the other other adjacent cabins, most of which were occupied. If there was one wish (having kids) it would have been for a washer and dryer, but the very friendly laundromat in Custer is minutes away right in the middle of town so we explored and grabbed some food!
Great trip. Would book again.
Had a delightful long weekend staying in this quiet, cozy cabin just outside of Custer. It was an easy, scenic drive to all the local sites we wanted to visit, cabin had the amenities we needed for a relaxing stay, and the area was stunningly beautiful and quiet.
We loved our stay at Elk Haven cabin in Custer. The location to all the area sights and attractions was outstanding. We were very close to downtown Custer but the cabin still felt remote. Absolutely gorgeous view from our porch. We enjoyed the sunsets and wildlife. The hosts were terrific and very quick to reply. Very accommodating to our requests and needs. The cabin was spotless and very comfortable for our two night stay. Other reviewers mentioned the size of the shower being small which we did find to be true, however, we did not find it restricting or a problem. Definitely a do over and I would 100% recommend a visit to Elk Haven Cabins.
We enjoyed our stay. Very peaceful and serene. We requested a larger grill and it was on our deck when we returned from site seeing. Thank you for a wonderful stay
Had a little trouble with the lock when I first checked in. A neighboring cabin said they had the same trouble. It’s a minor problem but would give everything else 5 stars! Rent this, you won’t be disappointed!
The cabin was very nicely arranged, everything we needed was available. Kris and Beth were friendly and checked with us to make sure we had what we needed.
Great spot. Well laid out. Lots of pots, pans, etc. quiet neighborhood with vacation homes at good distance from each other. More rural than I expected being so close to Custer and that was a huge plus to me. Overall would recommend highly and return if I get the chance.
Great location with beautiful rock formations in the hill behind cabin and deer visiting near front door in the mornings. Cozy cabin with everything we needed and so close to Custer!
This cabin was a great “home base” for us to spend 2 days adventuring around the area. The location is gorgeous with lots of wildlife, but only about 5 min from everything in town. Now, granted, in November “everything” in town is pretty limited but we found coffee, pizza, and groceries which was all we needed. And the trade off for us to have all the area attractions nearly to ourselves was so worth it! The cabin was just as described online and accommodated the 5 of us perfectly. A DVD player would have been nice for a family movie - the evenings are long, dark, and cold at the end of November - but we played games and found a few shows on satellite. Other than that, it was great! The beds were comfy. Lots of hot water for showers. Plenty of dishes, pillows, and towels.
