About this property

Peaceful Setting in 1919 Farmhouse Surrounded by Nature.

The little farmhouse is situated on 20 acres in the rural area of Battle Lake, Minnesota. There is a preserve to the west, situated on undeveloped lake shore, a soybean field to the south with open hay field to the east. It has a prairie garden that was started as a preservation site for the disappearing monarch butterfly. Those who come to visit may wish to see this noble butterfly in its natural habitat. The farmhouse is very clean and kept in its original 1919 character. The cooking stove is propane. There is one studio bedroom with a full (53 x 75 bed) and similar size podium bed upstairs in the loft. There are skunks under the old barn, marmots under the old feed shed, red and gray squirrels, fox, coyotes, beaver down at the dock at night and deer who pass through to eat the apples from the trees. A guest may or may not encounter wild life, but if so, the owner asks to observe but not disturb. A coyote or raccoon may wake you up at night. It has its resident bald eagle (utility company cut down its nest in 2018), raptors and a multitude of birds depending on the season. There is a main house on the property to walk past, through a grove of trees, to the lake dock or one can drive to the main house and take a shorter walk from there. There is bass and sunfish fishing off the dock. One can swim off the dock but there is no beach. There is no television, the house has connected WiFi. There is an outside fire pit and if it is a cloudless night you can see the stars, there is no light pollution. The sunsets and sunrises from the dock are beautiful.
This place is for a special type of person(s) who wish to have a relaxing time in a rural farm setting.

Quaint Farmhouse
This 1919 farmhouse surprised us with how well kept and quaint it was. It was so cozy and had everything we needed. We were very comfortable staying there and also hiked Glendalough State Park nearby. Our black lab had a great time exploring the woods around the property as well. Thanks for a wonderful place to just "get-a-way"!

Quiet getaway
I’m so grateful to people who make their corner of the world available as a resting place to recharge and a point from which to explore. The old farmhouse is so charming. I was left wanting to know the history. The cultural and natural history of this part of MN is raw and fascinating with glacial, Native American, and farming interest and surrounding small towns to explore.

Why they chose this property

This property was passed down. The owner would like to keep it undeveloped. Proceeds go towards the monarch prairie garden and property taxes.

What makes this property unique

The acreage sits on approximately three miles of undeveloped lakeshore. This area has a high amount of iron and magnesium in the water. It is harmless but can give off sometimes a odor (locals are use to it). Running the tap takes care of it. In addition, the house has a Hellendbrand filtration and reverse osmosis system that takes out the iron. Unlike city water, which is mostly recycled household waste, the water here comes from a well deep underground. Firewood provided or gathered in woods. Excessive bon fires do not allow the next guest(s) to have access to wood. There is only so much of it before a charge will have to be included for the use. The property is kept herbicide and pesticide free within reason. Therefore, one might encounter a spider, ant, tick, frog or an occasional mouse.
