Ask a questionAbout Charlotte Mullins
I am a retired teacher who taught every grade level from pre-school to junior college as well as adult education in the Texas prisons and juvenile detention facilities. I was presented the 2007 GED Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Council on Education. Marlin is my home although I lived all over the world as the wife of a US Army officer from 1962-1982. During that time I had two lovely daughters, one born in Frankfurt, Germany. I later married a high school teacher/coach who had two sons. The children kept us busy with sporting and equestrian events as well as academic pursuits. My husband started writing western historical novels after he retired, and two were published. He was inducted into the Western Writers of America organization, and we attended many seminars and conventions as part of that group. I began teaching in the prison system when we returned to Marlin, and I did that very-rewarding work until my retirement in 2014. A major fall soon after my husband's death made me give up my trail-riding so I remodeled my home and my life and began this endeavor. What fun I have had meeting and hosting my varied guests through Airbnb and VRBO! My life has come full-circle, beginning in Falls County TX, through Sam Houston State University (closest I could get to the all-male TAMU), to Europe, Central State University in Oklahoma, Japan, Las Vegas, NV, Washington D.C., Navasota, TX(with the Rattlers) and back to Marlin. Along the way I attended Baylor University, East Texas State University, Texas Tech University, and Harvard (seminars with Leadership America), majoring in home economics(Early Child Development), English Language and Literature, Journalism, and International Studies.
Charlotte Mullins purchased this house in 1974
Why Charlotte Mullins chose Marlin
I always used Marlin as my home base, and it is where my heart resides. I have loved horses and riding for pleasure and raising good-quality trail horses also of show-quality. Southwestern houses have always been my favorite as I collect Native American Art and Western art and artifacts as well. This Spanish Hacienda/ranch house suits me to a tee as does the barn and small acreage. I also love gardening., and the large yard with greenhouse/shed is fun as well as a great reward for my efforts. I love sharing plants and rescuing native plants for my garden.
What makes this house unique
Being able to see the stars and moon on clear nights, and listening to locusts and crickets and watching lightening bugs, while smelling the scents of roses, 4-0'clocks and jasmines is my idea of a relaxing evening. Yet, I am close enough (one hour or less)to live band music on weekend nights, great athletic events (awesome Lady Bear basketball and exciting Aggie football), super antiquing, and great theater and dining. I love to cook and can willingly provide great breakfasts, as well as great Texas hospitality.
