Great location close to town. Plenty of room enjoyed the full basement with games.Enjoyed the loft with catwalk to small deck and enjoyed the large deck and great to sit outside enjoy the area.
We truly enjoyed our stay! The home is within walking/biking distance of everything including the beach. The house had everything we needed, was pet friendly and spacious for all of us. We met Dan, who was also so kind to speak with. Will absolutely stay again.
Our family had a wonderful time in Grand Marias. Dan’s home was the perfect location to enjoy all the beauty of the Great Lakes. We especially appreciated the friendly, small town feel. We love being able to walk around to Mass and all the eateries in the area. There is a Catholic Church walking distance from Dan’s house. Our kiddos had a great time and made so much good memories here. We will definitely be coming back for our annual family vacation.
Our family had a fantastic stay in Grand Marais in the Big House! We already are planning the next visit. Thank you Dan for the beautiful cabin and allowing us to make family fun memories!
This was a wonderful place to stay! The house is very charming, and everything you would look for in a cottage. The location was wonderful and the host was very nice. Definitely a place I would stay again.
We had a lovely time! The home was absolutely wonderful, clean, comfortable. fun, and beautiful view. The location was fantastic, we easily walked into town and the beaches. A great place to stay when in the area.
We had a great time. The house was clean and neat and in a great location with plenty of parking. The sauna was not in service, but the fireplace was nice to have in the cold winter weather. We made lots of good memories and plan to be back!
The house was a perfect spot to use as a basecamp for our fall adventures. We could walk to the beach and restaurants, and easily hit the road to get to the sights around Grand Marais.
The house was wonderful. The views from the decks were great. The location is right in town close to everything. We had a great time and are looking forward to coming back. We would definitely stay here again.
Great spot! They have been/are making some upgrades, which is nice. The sauna was out of order, which was a bummer for us, but soon to be functional I was told. Easy walk to the beach in the bay or out to the big lake. I would highly recommend this place. It's a great spot and the owners are nice people.
The home was great. It was clean and well kept. We would definitely go back.

Why they chose this property
This property, known as The Big House, has been in the family for nearly 200 years. The original structure, “The Little House,” was cut in half and moved up the hill in 1989. The home was occupied by the family until both parents passed away. It became a rental in 2009. It is owned and operated by the surviving brothers who formed an LLC, Foundation Rentals, to be able to pay the taxes and keep the property in the family. The property manager (one of the brothers) lives within a mile of the house. The original house was much closer to the sidewalk than the current one. The original Little House, where the brothers and spent their summers with family in Grand Marais, is currently on Ridge Road, used as a camp by the family.
