PANORAMIC OCEAN VIEWS & PRIVATE POOL from HISTORIC HILLTOP RETREAT in Guiones

Hacienda Las Huacas — Historic Hilltop Estate with Ocean Views in Playa Guiones

Welcome to Hacienda Las Huacas, one of the oldest and most distinctive estates in Playa Guiones, Nosara. Set on a rare 1.5-acre double lot at one of the highest points in the EE section, this historic hilltop property captures the essence of Nosara with sweeping ocean views, cooling breezes, and deep local roots.

Originally known as Casa Las Huacas, the home was named for the sacred red clay hill it rests upon — a place once cherished by indigenous kings who buried their treasures high above the jungle to be closer to the heavens. Today, that same sense of peace and connection remains, woven into every detail of this soulful Costa Rican retreat.

Purchased as a private home in 2012, Hacienda Las Huacas has been carefully remodeled to preserve its authentic charm while offering comfortable, spacious accommodations for up to 14 guests. The estate features four separate dwellings, making it ideal for families, surf groups, and small retreats seeking privacy, nature, and proximity to Playa Guiones Beach.

Property Overview:

+ Main House – Sleeps up to 8 guests. Open-concept living, full kitchen, dining space, and a large terrace overlooking the ocean and jungle.
Base rate: $3,800 per night (main house only).
+ Three Small Casitas – Each sleeps 2 guests with private entrances, ensuite bathrooms, and garden views.
Add $400 per casita, per night.
+ Large Casita – Sleeps up to 4 guests with its own terrace and kitchenette.
Add $600 per night.

Playa Guiones House was a great place to stay

We had three families, six adults and nine teenagers. The place was set up great for us. Parents stayed in the casitas and most of the teens stayed in the house. Beds were comfortable, though a few more blankets would have been nice. The pool and outdoor area were awesome. View was awesome. Easy drive down to town and to the beach (but not a short walk). Kitchen was great. Heard the monkeys in the mornings. Not unlike other places we did find some scorpions lurking around. Our Concierge arranged many excursions for us but often we were able to find better and less expensive excursions ourselves. We had her stock the fridge before we got there which was nice, but expensive. She bought the most expensive items for most everything, especially the liquor, which is very expensive in the area (e.g. Grey Goose bottle for $65). ADVICE: Buy all of your liquor in the airport when you get off the plane (e.g Grey Goose bottle for $15). We had a cook and cooks assistant in each night for dinner (Mom and daughter). They cost about $100/night plus the groceries (that they picked up) and they even stayed to clean up. A bargain as the food was great. We requested local cuisine but they could do much more. One night they prepared the Tuna and Snapper we caught on our charter. Concierge set up the charter and the captain was very nice. His boat was small and simple with no frills (not even a fighting chair). He said he could take 8 people but that would have been terrible as any more than 3 or 4 guests would have been crowded and uncomfortable. Note: the second floor is not part of the rental, that's the owner's personal area. Though we did use the upstairs deck and balconies for sunbathing and massages ($60/hr plus tip and they were great). We did not go with the concierge's recommendation for a massage, which was going to be $115/hr. There is a lawn/maintenance man around often so he was able to fix a couple minor items. Other suggestions...Kayak/Snorkeling in Samara was great. The stars on the beach at night are great and we even built a bonfire. ATV tours were fun as well. Zipline was great. Plenty of good places to eat as well. 4wd rental car recommended but not essential for this house. Enjoy.

Excellent house for a large group

We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home. We were a group of 15 (3 families) with 9 teenagers!! The location of the house to town was perfect! We were close to the grocery, the farmicia and the clinica (which we ended up needing b/c of an ATV accident :() We were close to zip lining, a short drive to kayaking and snorkeling and very close to the beach for surfing, shopping and relaxing as well as great food and entertainment at Beach Dog Café!!! The only thing that our group would have like to have had was more seating on couches for our large group. Our teens gathered in the area with the view from the kitchen looking out to the pool and they had to bring chairs from the kitchen to sit in to be together. A big sectional couch would have been really nice! We loved our chefs and enjoyed not having to cook and clean each night. They were very accommodating and willing to take requests for dinner. They even prepared our freshly caught fish for dinner one evening. Amazing sunrises and sunsets were enjoyed by all!!!

Feels like a private resort

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this gorgeous home! We had a large group of 20 people- single people, couples, and young families with toddlers. This property is not only beautiful but laid out perfectly for a big group- we all had the space that we needed. And the house manager (Rebeca) hooked us up with amazing cooks- Karen and her helper. It was amazing to come home from the beach to a feast (better prices and food than any restaurant) and a perfectly clean kitchen. This home is clean and classy but still comfortable. Also- the owners are extremely friendly and helpful. Although I had never been to the area, I was well informed about what to expect and it made everything so easy. You get the best of both worlds with this property-- the feel of a resort but with quiet privacy. Highly recommend it!!!

Family Reunion

Beautiful home with gorgeous views to the Pacific; lovely memories of sitting on the deck with a cup of coffee and watching the sun rise over the mountains, and then at sunset, as the sun disappeared and the stars emerged. The combination of the main house with the casitas was perfect for our 3 generations -- the main house and the pool area offered plenty of room to be together, but the casitas provided separation. All of the bedrooms were similar -- no one felt they got short-changed. With 13 in our group including 3 young children, the property manager hired two local women to cook for us each night -- good food, ready when we came back from the beach, and no one in our group was stuck having to shop and cook.

We’re a family who fell in love with Nosara over a decade ago for its natural beauty, community, and the peaceful rhythm of life here. What started as our private home has grown into a place we’re honored to share — a historic hilltop estate that holds so much heart and history.

We spend much of our time between Costa Rica and California, and when we’re here, you’ll find us surfing, exploring the jungle trails, or enjoying sunset dinners on the terrace. Hosting guests at Hacienda Las Huacas has become one of our greatest joys — we love helping others experience the magic of this place and all that makes Nosara so special.

Our goal is for every guest to feel at home, connected to nature, and part of the story this land has carried for generations.

Why they chose this property

We chose this part of Playa Guiones for its rare blend of elevated tranquility and easy access to everything we love about Nosara. The property sits on one of the highest points in the EE section, where ocean breezes, wide views, and peaceful surroundings create a true sense of retreat — yet we’re just minutes from the surf, yoga studios, local cafés, and markets.

What we love most about this neighborhood is the balance it offers: quiet mornings with the sounds of howler monkeys, afternoons exploring the beach or trails, and evenings watching the sun dip into the Pacific. It’s private and serene, but still deeply connected to the heart of Guiones.

What makes this property unique

What makes Hacienda Las Huacas truly unique is its history, location, and spirit. It’s one of the oldest estates in Playa Guiones, set on a rare 1.5-acre double lot perched high above the jungle canopy, where you can feel the ocean breezes and take in panoramic views of the Pacific.

The property sits on sacred red clay land once cherished by indigenous kings, giving it a sense of grounding and connection that’s hard to describe but easy to feel. It’s been lovingly restored to honor its original soul while offering space and comfort for families and groups.

With multiple dwellings, natural design, and an authentic Costa Rican charm, Hacienda Las Huacas isn’t just a place to stay — it’s a place to slow down, reconnect, and experience the real Nosara.
