A large boat dock out back on the canal allows our fisherman to keep their boats in the water, but on low tide watch to ensure enough water depth to get out to the gulf when ready to fish. This property is located on a commercial fishing/clamming canal in the back as well as the Gulf of Mexico in the front making it a unique property in a one-of-a-kind town. Like to fish but didn’t bring a boat, you can fish and crab right from our dock or join others on the new huge fishing pier downtown or many of the other great land fishing spots.
When the sun is setting, step out on the covered front deck to feel the breeze and enjoy the spectacular sunset view over the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. You may see a school of dolphin cavorting in the cove right in front of you or even the swirl of a black drum close enough to make you want to throw a line out. When hunger strikes you ll find everything you need to cook up mouth watering dishes and if you're a fan of the world famous Cedar Key farm raised clams, walk next door to get some from our local clam wholesaler. Cedar Key also offers outstanding local cuisine in its many casual dining restaurants. Check out local musicians performing around town including Steamers Bar & Grill and the Island Hotel.

We have visited Cedar Key for the pass 25 years. There are many great places to stay in Cedar Key, but this was by far the best rental . The accommodation, the cleanliness and the host quick response, one could not ask for more of a rental place.
Beautiful home, the best view, and so much space inside and outside. We enjoyed playing corn hole out back and sitting on the porch. If you like to cook, the kitchen is nice and big. This is our second time staying at this property.
Beautiful property. Wonderful hosts. Every detail was taken care of. They even had jackets in the closet for us to use in case the weather got cold! Host was very polite and helpful with great attention to detail. I would recommend this host and this property to anyone wanting to have a good time without any hassles.
“We had an amazing stay at Fishtail Lodge in beautiful Cedar Key! This spacious stilt home with a beautiful view of the gulf was the perfect getaway for our family. The house is well-equipped and comfortable. Everything was clean and thoughtfully stocked — fresh linens, towels, and a full kitchen with all the essentials we needed for cooking. The large private dock was a highlight; we spent hours fishing, watching dolphins and birds, and enjoying stunning sunsets over the water.Location-wise, it’s on a safe, quiet private road, which made it feel secluded yet still close enough to town for quick trips to restaurants and the historic Cedar Key area. The outdoor space was ideal for relaxing with coffee in the morning.Communication with the host was excellent, and check-in was smooth. We especially appreciated the washer/dryer and two full bathrooms, which made things convenient for us.If you’re looking for a peaceful, fishing-focused, or just plain relaxing Florida Gulf Coast vacation away from the crowds, Fishtail Lodge is fantastic. We can’t wait to return! Highly recommend.”
Clean! Good location, close to downtown. Fully stocked with supplies and cooking items. We rented golf carts and had a 5 min drive to downtown to eat/shop.
ok that one says it all. Definitely this place is my dream retirement home so come stay with us while you can! As my future retirement beach house, you know I will keep it well appointed and maintained.
This is the perfect place for a family get away on a beautiful property!

Fish Tale Lodge is the perfect home for family with its 4 bedrooms- can sleep 9 with the two comfy cots. And if you are a boater/fisherman the dock can accommodate most boats- just watch the tides - at low tide the boat is likely sitting on that wonderful Cedar Key mud.
We had a great time and this place was exactly as advertised. Very clean, easy check in, lots of supplies already stocked which was very nice. Had a great time and would definitely stay here again.
We had a great stay here. Everything was great. We would definitely rent it again.

This particular view I think is the best on the entire island. We get amazing sunsets as well as the occasional dolphins hurding mullet right in front of the house. That display was featured on a BBC program years ago and filmed in Cedar Key before they even knew dolphins did that. Cedar Key is legendary.
Have stayed at a lot of Vrbo’s and this house is the nicest. Clean, awesome kitchen great location. Owner was great.

The prior owner was a gourmet cook and the custom kitchen reflects that. Its also an open floor plan so the whole family can contribute to the meal preparation while enjoying the view.
Had a nice relaxing visit to the Key. I found the house to be well stocked and clean. The neighborhood was also quiet and pet friendly. I would love to stay there again.

Hope you come again to the beautiful Cedar Keys. Its a place that is hard to find in this crazy world and equally hard to forget once you've found it.
We stayed at this property to meet some family in Cedar Key. It was a great house and had everything that we needed! Fantastic location, great views and the neighborhood was safe and quiet. We would definitely recommend and will stay again next time we are there!
Really nice place to stay. They are still recovering from hurricanes. We found a great restaurant Steamers ate there every night. No grocery store so stop ahead of time. House was clean the town rebuilding it was a very relaxing place. We will be back!
Very accommodating. Awesome location for golf carting and kayaking.

About Bill Watford
I am a native Floridian. There are a lot of nice cities in Florida and my two favorite small towns are Deland on the east side of the state and Cedar Key due west on the Gulf of Mexico.
I started buying houses to rent as an investment while I had a full time day job, my first in 1985 and I still own it - the Cedar House of Deland. My full time job today is managing the vacation rentals and short stay properties that I own.
I have several in Deland: The Units of the Deland Marigold, Grandma's Place, and The Cedar House. I also have three in Cedar Key: The TreeHouse, FishTale Lodge and Goose Cove Cottage.
I enjoy what I do and am passionate about seeing that my guests have a great experience while staying in one of my properties.
Why they chose this property
This is a property we always admired but never thought we could own on this street most admired in Cedar Key. We are simply amazed that its ours and we have put our stamp on it for your comfort and enjoyment and when you are done with it we fully intend to live it in full time. Therefore we have appointed it for our comfort as well as yours. We will continue to stay in it and upgrade its amenities at every opportunity so you can enjoy coming back to it again and again. This home is so well built and so much care has been taken in its upgrades that it shows throughout including the newly created back yard/deck/boat dock. The view from front and back is nothing short of spectacular and I long for the day when its my permanent nightly view.
What makes this property unique
Incredible quality construction on a beautiful lot overlooking the Gulf of Mexico that provides a superb level of comfort and well-being. It is so well designed for livability and ease of use- you don't even get wet when it rains while bringing in your groceries! The back dock and bulkhead was built to commercial specifications strong enough to support fork lifts. The house was built up to avoid hurricane flooding and provides for spectacular views. This height allows for amble covered parking for your vehicles including parking for boats/trailers. The amenities upstairs like the gas fireplace and custom built kitchen will please everyone.
