We all had an amazing time. The house is everything promised. Plenty of room and we all had a great time. The only negative is that the driveway is super steep. Thank you so much for a great vacation
The building was very roomy and had plenty of things to help enjoy the house. However, there are a lot of single car roads in the neighborhood so get ready to put it in reverse, and the driveway is STEEP so consider what you'll be driving.
I booked this place for me and my groomsman to stay at during my wedding weekend. We had the most incredible time. The place is beautiful and it’s uniqueness is now central to so many wonderful life memories for me. It’s filled with fun amenities and ample bedrooms for all guests to be comfortable. The layout is great and there was a plethora of fun things to do. We especially enjoyed the hot tub and billiards table. Would love to stay at a place like this again someday.
Beautiful spacious castle close to vineyards and downtown Portland
Highly recommend! We travel all over the world, and we were blown away by this castle. The house was immaculately clean. We had a large group of adults celebrating 50th birthdays, and everyone loved the house. There are many large bedrooms with tons of beds with fresh linens. The kitchen is enormous, with a large gas range, huge fridge, Keurig, pots and pans, plates, utensils, and wine glasses. There are 3 full bathrooms with hair dryers, and the house was stocked with hand soap, toilet paper, paper towels, many fluffy bath towels and extra blankets. The dining room table is very large, perfect for dinner and game nights. There is a pool table, foozball table, and many TVs. The outdoor space is perfect for a large group, featuring 2 hot tubs and 2 huge decks with large tables and a gas grill. We enjoyed sitting outside grilling steaks and drinking local wines from the area. It is very conveniently located, close to downtown Portland and many vineyards in the Williamette Valley. I loved the location, because we were also able to take short day trips to the Oregon coast, Mount St. Helens, and the Columbia River in Washington State. The hostess is lovely. She communicated with me promptly, and checking in was a breeze.

Grand setting could use some updates.
The grandeur of this place was great, and some amenities were plentiful (e.g. towels, blankets). However, there is a lot of deferred maintenance required, we found only one hot tub worked, the sauna was not clean enough for us to want to turn on, the coffee maker and other kitchen appliances did not work. The biggest miss was the kitchen quality, few mugs, missing a can opener, and beat up cookware.

Sauna is new and is cleaned after every guest same as the hot tub and everything else. If you leave the sauna door open during your stay that the wind will blow in pine needle's and other stuff inside. Please keep the door closed.
Also, we did buy new coffee maker and replaced other appliances and made sure to restock the kitchen after this guest. sometimes guest take, break or loose stuff so we try to restock the house every 3 months or as soon as we find out theres an issue. we would have delivered everything to the guest right away if they would have told us about there issues during the stay. But saydly they only mentioned the iuues in the revie after the stay. The old appliances were 2 years old.
The house was very interesting. Plenty of bedrooms and gathering places. Good size kitchen and working tvs.
There were a few problem though:
No heat at all in the turret room
Cold in the kitchen
Oven and stove exhaust non functioning
Burners broken
Coffee maker inoperable
Lack of glassware
Can opener broken
All these thing made our trip somewhat of a challenge

John, it would have been nice is you would have asked for help. Theres is a separate duckless heater and remote in that room.
The stove works correctly if you know how to operate it correctly. I could have guided you.
We havw a large kitchen and we have a huge amount of glassware in the kitchen cabinets on the oposite side of the kitchen. You just didn't look.
We also have multiple coffee makers that works.
If you have something like the Can opener braking you should have told us and we would deliver you a new one the same day.
If there will be a next time please ask and you will receive everything and all your issues would have been resolve immediately.
The place was beautiful. A great place to stay with friends. Plenty of room for everyone to sleep, hang out, cook, and eat. A light or two didn't work but the manager fixed it the next day. One carpeted room was wet (I assume from cleaning up after the previous guests) and was difficult to use for a day or two. I had a bit of difficulty getting something I left at the house, but it was managed in the end.
Fantastic view and a nice part of Portland for eating and exploring. Overall, I would love to stay there again if the need arises.

This is a bit of a mixed bag. I want to be fair though so I'll highlight both good and bad. Good: check-in, responsive hosts, well provisioned. The house is unique and full of character and memorable. The dinner table room is great for board game groups. Bad: Honestly I feel slightly scammed. The pictures in the listing make the place look more luxurious and spacious than in reality. The layout has lots of cheap, often broken furniture lining the walls. The listing says parking for 6. The reality is that it had reasonable space for 4-5 cars and 3 cars parked there full time from the people living in the second house. I feel like they hid that there is a second house with full time residents. The outdoor areas are entirely unmaintained. Dirty, and covered in cobwebs. There are two hot tubs but one was broken. Finally the worst part was that the bottom floor was full of messages that at best made us feel unwelcome and at worst felt openly hostile. There are "quiet hours" like every neighborhood but the signs are in every room saying that if you dare go outside after 10pm the "neighbors" will take pictures and call the cops and you will be fined 6,383. It is VERY strongly worded. You get the sense that the "neighbors" are whoever lives in the other unit on the property. We went out one night and came home to a drone hovering over the house. Maybe it wasn't the owners but it made us all concerned.
This is house is unique. Lots of space for a large family. Some quirks - bathroom on each floor, but no traditional master bath. Main one on middle floor we had five people sharing. Lots of drawers and cabinets in kitchen made it difficult to find things. Hot tub would have been fun but couldn't use it after 10 pm which was about the time we would have liked to use it. Our biggest complaint was the house was almost 90 degrees when we arrived. AC works but took a long time to cool house down and wasn't until the next day when it finally was comfortable. Also originally told check out was 11 am but not until we saw 10 am written on house rules did we realize they had changed the time. Would have been nice to have been notified of that change. Lastly parking is a bit dicey - steep driveway and shared with other house on property so we ended up parking on road.
Location is nice and overall we enjoyed our stay but we felt house was a bit overpriced for what you get.

Interesting property with some issues
This "castle" property has a LOT of character. The house has some beautiful touches and finishes, and in its heyday it was likely stunning. It also has a TON of space -- more than any other VRBO property at which I've stayed.
Yet there were some big issues. First, the kitchen wasn't well stocked at all. We had difficulty finding a pot in which to boil water for pasta, and there wasn't a single cutting knife that wasn't a huge carving knife (or a chef's knife). The kitchen counter also had tiles that were missing.
Second, the property just wasn't prepped fully for our stay. One of the jacuzzis was full of ants, and the property owner/manager emailed me shortly after check-in to let me know about the possibility of chipmunks crawling around in the attic and making noise. There were also tree vines growing through one of the windows that prevented it from closing. I understand that flora and fauna can sometimes be unpredictable, but these shouldn't be problems I have to deal with on my vacation, and I shouldn't be losing sleep (as I did) from animals scratching around in the ceiling above me. The property owner/manager eventually sent a lovely repairman to resolve the problems, but again this is something that should have been resolved BEFORE my stay, especially at this price point.
Third, there was a distinct lack of instruction about the operation of the house. The property owner/manager posted a list of rules at the entryway, but there was no information at all, for example, about how to operate the two thermostats or which one controlled the upstairs or downstairs.
Fourth, I think the photos of the property are a bit inaccurate. My daughter, for example, was extremely upset at the lack of a basketball hoop shown in the photos.
Fifth. one of the aforementioned "rules" instituted by the property owner/manager is that renters shouldn't have Amazon packages delivered to the property. Yet the property owner/manager itself was having packages delivered to the property during our stay. I don't see why I should be responsible for picking up packages that aren't my own.
One final note -- the property owner/manager warned us in advance that the driveway is very, very steep. She is not kidding. I don't see how any car could possibly use the driveway.
In all, our stay was okay, but I had been expecting more given the price demanded for this place.

Kenneth, we have a smaller mini Castle house "2,400sqft" next door that sleeps 8 people which is more than 2 times less expensive that would have fit your small family well. This house was originally built for large groups and intended to host multiple families to be affordable.
We have tree vines growing on the side of the brick in the front area on purpose and the last guest before you opened the window and closed it with one vine branch going inside. It was an easy fix.
The neighbors chipmunk has been caught and the few ants the have been seen, sprayed and entire promises treated.
Guest constantly use the driveway especially if they have larger vehicles. We are sorry to hear that you have not been satisfied and hope next time maybe you can stay at the smaller house which is much less expensive but in the same general downtown desired area.
Was great for our extended family to spread out. However, there isn’t really a “lounge” area for gathering. The living room is taken up with the pool table. Totally fun, but didn’t work well for older family. High maintenance guests won’t want to share the bathrooms with so many potential beds filled. Also, not at all good for elderly or those with mobility issues. Exactly as advertised and we did have a blast.
Fun property and layout. Stairway carpets are old and need replacing. Carpet of the trundles located off the kitchen is cream and dirty looking. Needs to be cleaned or replaced. AC was not working the first two days we were there but property owner was responsive in bringing in four window ACs that helped a lot. The biggest dissatisfier are that the two primary bathrooms which seriously need to be re-grouted. The caulking and grout is black and is "normally" supposed to be grey. It can only be mold even though the owner came and sprayed Clorox mold remover all over the gross looking caulk. It looked horrible.

The tile was was redone in the bathrooms and the AC units have been services and are working properly.
Had a great time with 15 friends for a 30th birthday celebration. There was plenty of room for us to hang out on the back patio and in the living room and plenty of plate ware and cookware to have some meals at the house. It was amazing!
We gathered at this house for a family reunion after the holidays. This was the first time we had been all together as a family in almost 3 years. There was plenty of room for all of us to relax, cook and visit. The house is very stately as it sits on top of a hill. There are several flights of steps to enter the house. Parking is on the street as the driveway is very steep.
We had a wedding in Estacada, Oregon and wanted to be between there and Hood River. This location was perfect! Between this rental and the rental right next door our large group had more than enough room. The deck with the bbq & spa was accommodating, too. The driveway is steep, but fun to conquer! If you dare.
This home was very large and had everything we needed. Lots of space and lots of stairs. Well appointed with lots of TVs and games to keep everyone busy.

This house was prefect for our family.
The bedrooms on the third level worked great for our family with very young children. The TV rooms carpet was extremely dirty and with infants we would not allow them on the carpet.
The chairs where moved and we found old food and liter from previous guest. The kitchen floor was dirty. We cleaned the floor with soap and water and it was amazing the dirt that came up. The house is amazing. The cleaning crew needs to step their game up! The family room carpet needs to be replaced.
This place had everything we needed and was clean. The only thing it didn't have was any sort of music player/ bluetooth speakers so bring your own.
