About this property

Walk to Sugar Mountain Slopes | Hot Tub | Views | Pet Friendly

Welcome to Sugar Mountain Escape
Perched near the top of Sugar Mountain at almost 5,000 feet, Sugar Mountain Escape delivers unobstructed, year-round mountain views from a private hot tub, three separate decks, and a wood-burning fire pit tucked into the trees. Inside, vaulted wood ceilings, two separate living rooms, and a lower-level pool table give a group of up to 8 room to spread out and settle in — and with the Sugar Mountain Ski Resort shuttle stopping right at the door, the slopes are minutes away no matter how the snow looks on the driveway.
Sleeping & Space — Sleeps 8
• Main-Level King Suite: king bed, HD Smart TV, en-suite bath with a large step-in shower, and private glass doors to a quiet rear deck.
• Upstairs Queen Bedroom: queen bed, vaulted ceilings, HDTV with Blu-ray player, and mountain views.
• Lower-Level Sleeping Area: queen bed in a private additional bedroom, ideal for a third couple or extra family.
• Loft Nook: a queen pull-out sleeper next to a cozy game table for cards and puzzles.
• Main-Level Den: a sleeper sofa (sleeps 2) in a second living space.
• 2 full bathrooms plus 1 half bath.
Living & Entertaining
• An open-concept living room with soaring vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and an HD Smart TV.
• A gourmet kitchen with granite counters, stainless steel appliances, and a center island topped with a live-edge wood slab; the dining table seats 8.
• A second living room/den for overflow lounging, movie nights, or keeping the kids' noise separate from the adults. Board games and puzzles are fully stocked.
• A lower-level game room with a pool table — perfect for a rainy afternoon or an après-ski evening.
• A loft reading and puzzle nook tucked under the eaves, inclusive of a dedicated workstation.
Outdoor Living
• A private hot tub on the lower deck with panoramic mountain views.
• Multiple decks and seating areas for sunrise coffee, sunset drinks, or stargazing — a mounted spotting scope is included for a closer look at the ridgeline.
• A wood-burning fire pit tucked into the trees below the house.
• A gas grill and a shaded front porch.
Location
Minutes from Sugar Mountain Ski Resort — walk to the slopes, or ride the Sugar Mountain Ski Resort shuttle door-to-door and skip the walk in one direction or both (search "SkiSugar" for shuttle routes and schedules). Also close to Banner Elk (5 miles), Grandfather Mountain (9 miles), Lees-McRae College (6 miles), Boone (14 miles), Blowing Rock (16 miles), Valle Crucis (13 miles), Beech Mountain Ski Resort and Hawksnest Snow Tubing & Zip Lines (10 miles), and Appalachian Ski Mountain (19 miles).

Good to Know
• The driveway is steep and gravel. All-wheel or 4-wheel drive is strongly recommended; if you don't have one, park toward the top of the driveway rather than the bottom. Rear-wheel-drive vehicles should back in and park near the top; front-wheel-drive vehicles should pull in facing downhill, also near the top.
• At this elevation, air conditioning is rarely needed. We provide a few portable units that can cool a large room or area on warmer days.
• The living room's stone fireplace is decorative and not available for guest use.
• The garage is reserved for the owner's storage and is not accessible to guests.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

Great trip

We came for a week to hike and relax. We had great weather (75 one day and snow the next!) which made it interesting, but the house had everything we needed and it was a great location.

Great little escape

Overall we enjoyed our stay, the location was excellent, the house was well kept and neat, especially considering it's pet friendly. We enjoyed the hot tub and fireplace in the cold weather. We would definitely visit again

Yearly Sugar trip

What a great location and view from the balcony! House had all the basics to cook. Could use some update on cutlery and utensils. Close to grocery store, ski slopes of Sugar Mtn. and Banner Elk. Great place to take older teens with separate living spaces. Our dogs enjoyed it too. Thank you for sharing your home!

Peaceful and beautiful!

My family had a wonderful time at this property. Everything was as advertised and the surrounding neighborhood was so nice. What amazing views! The hot tub and game room were a hit. We loved eating breakfast by the big window, where we were joined by a family of deer almost every morning!

Lovely Views and Location

We enjoyed our stay at this property in Sept. It had an exceptional TV (with cable for us who have not cut the cord) in the lovely sun room. Much better than most places we have rented. The master bed was extremely comfortable. It was roomy, especially for 2 people. I thought it in desperate need of a thorough cleaning. There is clutter in every closet, light bulbs in need of replacement, and an overall feeling of dust and grime. Our listing was not accurate through VRBO, so be sure to check the property manager's website for all details. The VRBO listing did NOT mention the steep, gravel driveway. This was particularly troublesome for my husband's bad knees. It also did NOT indicate the AC are portable units in 2 rooms only. But we love Sugar Mtn and the outdoor deck was magnificent. Overall, I would recommend this property.

Great stay!

We loved our stay at Sugar Mountain Escape! We felt very at home and comfortable! The hot tub was very clean as well as the rest of the home! We loved the wood burning fireplace and that we could bring our Boston terrier Scout with us! The driveway is very steep and we had 16 inches of snow during our stay and it was not accessible so be aware in winter months! You will have to haul your stuff down the driveway even if you have a 4x4 vehicle! We had a wonderful stay and would definitely book again!

Kitchen Needs skillet and pans to cook with. Had only 1 regulr glass to drink out of. So I just bought Solo cups. Truly enjoyed our stayed. The one thing that I think needs to be followed up on is the housekeeping. I know the owners pay and expect a good job. the house is very dusty. I cleaned the top of Refrig and electric baseboards etc. The kitchen table was dirty with dried mustard and bread crumbs. But I was prepared and took my own Lysol and cleaned We did have a great time and enjoyed the house and all the snow. THanks to the owners for sharing their home with us

Cabin was great. Plenty of room for our group. Beautiful views. Conveniently located close to ski slopes. Only wish there was a Christmas tree, but in their defense we were warned there may not be.

We had the best time at Sugar Mountain Escape. We had everything we needed for a cozy autumn retreat watching the leaves fall. With a Lowe's food 2 miles away we stocked up on food and spent most of our trip in the hot tub and on the amazing patio.

Great stay

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sugar Mountain Escape. The views were spectacular. The furnishings were comfortable, especially the master bed. The cabin itself was well appointed. We would love to stay here again as it felt very homey. The only drawbacks would be the mild mildewy smell present and large presence of dust attached to the textured walls. We found CCR very helpful and responsive to our needs and questions.

Great place! Good kitchen and awesome hot tub. but BRING YOUR OWN POOL CUES if you were planning on playing pool. the table is fine but all of the pool cues were in terrible shape. The tips of all of the sticks were missing. enjoyed this stay.

Nice Stay

We selected this cabin because we wanted a pool table, hot tub and needed to sleep 6. We enjoyed our stay and the amenities and supplies were adequate. Would have been nice to have a third bedroom. Due to openness of the loft it was noisy for those sleeping there. The cabin could use a deep clean. There were cobwebs and dust on many surfaces. I cleaned high touch areas with Lysol wipes upon our arrival and ended up with visible dirt on the wipes.

We enjoyed our stay, but just a couple of things we want to point out. The owners need to replace the pots and pans. The coating on them was nearly gone and unsafe to use. A good set is needed in order to cook meals. The other thing was the place was very dusty, all the TV stands very dusty and all window sills were very dusty too, noticed that because when we opened windows it was apparent. Some dishes were dirty in the cabinets when we went to use them. A very convenient location and awesome views. Love the family room addition.

Excellent for families with children

The property was accurately represented and delightfully appointed. Sufficient pillows and blankets. Really enjoyed having two living rooms, separated by a glass sliding door. Kids and adults could be separated for movie-watching. Kids loved the hot tub. We needed a few things for our 4-5 day stay: more than 1 toilet paper role per bathroom, more than 3 packets of dishwasher detergent (we prepared all meals at the house, for 8 people), laundry detergent, plastic garbage bags to line the can, a few more kitchen towels. Highly functional house.
