The cabin was fully equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. We enjoyed sitting on the shady back deck in the afternoon while enjoying the views of the cliffs and wildlife. We fished with a guide three days on the Missouri River, landing a lot of big, beautiful trout. Trout Tales made for a perfect base for our fishing trip.
Wonderful cabin on the Dearborn with easy access to Craig
We really enjoyed our stay at this well appointed cabin. Felt like a home away from home and was easy to relax and unwind. The Dearborn and Missouri are just a short walk away with exceptional fishing right out the back door.
The cabin is great, the setting is perfect to see wildlife and fish, and the location is private but not far from the Highway! We had an amazing experience at this cabin and the owner, Sue, is happy to help with anything you might need! Thank you again!
It was a great stay at the remote cabin. Everything was as expected with great communication from the host. We stayed in the hottest time of the year where the cooling evaporator attempted to keep us cool.
When we first arrived we saw three bucks on the hill side. Afterwards fawns stayed around the cabin for the duration of our stay.
I would stay there again especially during late spring or early fall.
Great “off the grid” Cabin to hangout at. Very comfortable, everything works well, solar powered with propane generator backup. One bath and one double downstairs and three more beds upstairs. Host is very accessible and the cabin is well stocked with all the little things you could want. The only issue is the access road, very steep and weathered hard. When she says “4 wheel drive is a necessity”… believe it! Enjoyed our stay there…
We absolutely loved the place and the location. It was a perfect size for just the two of us. We mostly fished the MO River while there but it was convenient to walk out back and fish the Dearborn a couple of times also. There were deer and rabbits running around every day and one of the does had a couple of young fawns with her. They were fun to watch. The road getting into the place was a little intimidating at first but once we drove it down and back up, it was a piece of cake. The owner was great to talk to on the phone and she was very responsive to all of my messages to her. The place is well stocked with all the essentials and had everything we needed (except a cheese grater….lol). We will definitely consider this place again if we ever make another trip over there.
This cabin absolutely lives up to its name. It has direct access to the Dearborn River with a fishing hole right by the property’s river bank. If you are a fishing enthusiast, read the fishing instructions in the cabin. They are very accurate and proved quite productive for me.
The cabin is fully equipped with everything you need for a nice vacation.
The sceneries are breath taking with eagles cruising high in the skies…a true paradise.
The situation with AWD / 4x4 vehicle is not that bad. A basic vehicle with such capability will do it.
Will definately return.
First off, do pay attention to the information in the description regarding 4WD or AWD needed to reach the property. The road in is pretty intimidating at first but after a few times in and out we got used to it.
Once on site the drive in was well worth it. The lodge is better than described. Great location, great amenities, very short walk to blue ribbon fishing, and a nature lover's dream.
The first morning we were there we saw no less than a dozen deer and watched five bald eagles flying around the cliffs.
The house was clean and had more than enough amenities. Being on a solar system, most of the lights are LEDs. In the evening the inside lighting was a bit dim for reading so I'd bring an additional clip on reading light the next time I go...And we'll definitely be back.
Thanks Susan, for being an outstanding host.
Trout Tales exceeded our expectations. The road into the cabin is no joke (20% grade). 4X4 is an absolute must. From a location standpoint, you can't beat it. 30 miles from Great Falls airport and within 5 to 10 min drive of most Missouri River access. We were there in July. 90-100 degree temps during the day. The cabin stayed cool with the windows shut during the day, and at night was very pleasant with the windows open. Wifi works really well.
The Dearborn river was great for swimming. You can take a short walk down the dearborn and wade the missouri . We walked down and immediately found a pod of rising fish. The water temp was likely 75 in the dearborn, and no trout to be found. With the missouri so close, you're better off devoting more time there.
I would definitely come back to Trout Tales!
We truly enjoyed our stay at Trout Tales! The home is incredibly stocked with everything you’ll need. Communication with the owner was great. We saw lots of wildlife- bear, mule deer, bighorn sheep, eagles, osprey and snow pelicans! We rented a boat and fished the Missouri River; caught 6 big trout! My husband caught 2 nice trout behind the house in the swimming hole one morning. The Gates of the Mountains boat tour was very informative and beautiful! We also journeyed up to Glacier which is breathtaking. Renting side by sides in Pipestone was also lots of fun! The road coming into the cabin in pretty rough- definitely need AWD or 4x4 and PLENTY of ground clearance. Overall, this is a wonderful cabin in a beautiful location!
This beautiful vacation home is absolutely beautiful and totally off the grid. Their property description is accurate except it says, 4x4 vehicle suggested. Not quite correct, 4x4 vehicle a necessity, and that’s part of the beauty of this place. Sue, the owner has provided all you’ll need for a totally relaxed stay, except for your food and drink of choice. And, BTW, their well water is better that any bottled or city water I’ve found. Wake up to the quiet of the valley, walk outside with your cup of coffee and see how many deer are walking around. We counted 8 one morning. Sitting on their deck, watching a dancing fire in their fire pit, playing a quick game of horse shoes, checking out the stars, solving all the worlds problems, enjoying each other company and bragging who caught the biggest fish the day is the perfect way to conclude your evening. The boys and I have already decided if we have another Montana guy fishing trip, this is where we’re gonna stay!
I've stayed at quite a few Vrbo's and I'd have to say this property is the best yet. The communication from the property owner, the cleanliness of the property and the property had every little thing you can think of, but would never expect to get to make out visit absolutely perfect. The location was private and secluded and you definitely better take the 4x4 requirement seriously. It added to the experience in a wonderful way. Would come back in a heart beat.
This place was gorgeous! Beautiful Mountain View’s in peaceful secluded area. The driveway was a bit intimidating so don’t disregard the 4WD warning. We stayed a week and each of us landed a limit of trout to take home. Perfectly centered between Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks so we were able to see both!
If you are looking to get away from your busy life, this is the place! My husband and I met my dad and sister at Susan's beautiful log cabin for a 5 day stay. It is off grid but we hardly noticed it. We could barely use our cellphones and that was just fine (no time to look at a phone anyhow). It was around 100 degrees and even tho Susan has a swamp cooler in the cabin for use, we never had to use it. Just close up the windows around 10AM or so and her log cabin stays nice and cool during the heat of the day. We stayed busy fishing, kayaking, swimming in the numerous deep holes around every riverbend, panning for gold 🤭, hiking and exploring. The cabin sits within walking distance of the Missouri River and beautiful fishing spots are abundant with breathtaking views. We were exhausted at the end of every day with all the activities available to us at this location. Susan was very accommodating! She left items for us to take along when we went to see our property back further in the mountains (bear spray, shovel and extinguisher) She also left notes with some tips for us during our stay and sent a text message to me when fishing restrictions had been put in place due to the hot weather. She was very thoughtful and didnt miss a thing that could have made our stay more perfect. The views are stunning and I cannot wait to visit again. The cabin was immaculate for cleanliness and it definitely felt like home. We figured (being from North Dakota and avid outdoorsmen) that the road into the property was over exaggerated, but it is not. You will need 4WD and I would not recommend bringing a trailer, boat or riding a motorcycle in. One good tip.... if you are hauling kayaks in the open bed of your pickup and driving up the road from property, make sure to strap them in VERY WELL. Otherwise, they may alter their positions over the bumps, slide out, and 1 just may take off down the hill/road on its own adventure with an outstanding launch over the cliff at the bottom turn, landing in the group of prickly bushes at the bottom. Can laugh about it now 😆 I highly recommend Trout Tales and would return in a heartbeat! Thank you for sharing your paradise with us Susan! And our "special guest" really enjoyed herself also. She sends a special thank you also 💕
Came with family to do some fly fishing. Was really impressed with the cabin’s details and everything was as described/in pictures. If you are looking for a secluded cabin on an amazing piece of property, this is it! Sue our host was great and thought of everything.
What a picturesque spot right on the river! I came to Cascade to visit my son, DIL, and grand baby. It was the perfect place for us all to be together. My son enjoyed being right on the river, so he could fish. There was plenty of room for the five of us. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed.
Sue was very hospitable and communication was easy! We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay! Thank you so much for sharing your cabin with us, Sue!
We came out to fish the Missouri for a few days and found the cabin online. I had stayed in the area before. The cabin was very nice and lived up to the description. It had everything we needed and was nicely updated. We didn’t have to bring anything but groceries. Susan kept in contact during the booking and was available if needed. I will stay here again for sure.
