Loved the animals and fire pit. Ranch cottage has a warm cozy atmosphere inside. It was nice this place made it to where we could travel with our dogs as well! We definitely enjoyed our time there!
Very clean and well-supplied. The alpacas and chickens were mostly quiet and they were very well behaved. It is easy to find and was convenient to places we worked and places we wanted to explore. We would definitely stay there again.
What a lovely little gem this cottage is! Comfy and well stocked; there were even snacks, wine and fresh eggs in the refrigerator when we arrived. I would definitely stay here again!
Cottage was perfect 2 night stay for wife and I. Very clean and cozy, Llamas and Chickens outside entry door relatively peaceful. Complimentary eggs, wine and bottled water with equipped kitchen. Good central location for day tripping.
We loved the cozy cottage it was exactly what we where looking for. This morning we got to enjoy feeding the alpacas before leaving I would highly recommend this cozy little place
Cute little cottage with everything needed for a short stay. Kids had lots of fun seeing the chickens and feeding the alpacas. Campfire kit was perfect. Very short drive from the highway yet feels like it is super secluded. Kids are asking to go back again already. Thanks!
This was exactly what we were looking for in a getaway. It’s off the “beaten path” so-to-speak, and it was very cozy and welcoming. Waking up to the alpacas and chickens was a real treat, and the fresh eggs were amazing! Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a homey, relaxing getaway.
Great, quiet getaway. Fun to talk to the alpacas and watch the chickens and ducks. Short drive to the redwoods. Owner was very responsive via text when we needed something.
We left a heatwave and came here for a couple days. It was very comfortable and everything we needed in the kitchen was available. The farmhouse vibe sharing space with the llamas and chickens was extra special.

The cottage Was perfect. Everything you need they have there, including the alpacas, the chickens, the roosters the ducks. Location is great for going up and hiking in the redwoods or to the beach or visiting the little towns around. It was the only place we found that would take a cat and we are grateful for that. You can’t go wrong renting this cabin.
My son and I really enjoyed our stay at that ranch cottage. My son especially enjoyed the alpacas and that may have been his favorite part of our whole vacation! Pam was very helpful and kind and the cottage was clean with every thing we needed, even extras! We will be back next time we come through!

Thanks Sarah! Glad you and Harley made it to stay through the road closures to get here. You were both a joy to meet and great guests!
The cottage is clean, cozy and has everything needed for a comfortable stay. The yard and immediate surroundings are not as neat and pretty but overall ok. The deck is furnished and there is a firepit with a starting supply of wood. We didn't use it but it still was a nice touch for those who would. We loved the alpacas and chickens right in the back yard. It's not just everywhere that comes with those amenities. Lol
The small cottage provided all the necessities for a comfortable stay, including the sound of alpacas calling, hens cooing, and ducks quacking! There is a small porch you can sit out and listen to the animal sounds while having a drink. Our son's favorite part was the loft inside. It was perfect for a 4 year year old! There is a stove, oven, microwave, small refrigerator, sink, and dishes were all there. The complimentary home laid eggs were delicious.
The location is pretty great, it's off the road on a quiet street, and a quick drive to Ferndale, Eureka, Arcata, Avenue of the Giants and other neat places to go.
Let me start with this is an AMAZING property. Just what I like when I come to town for a run. It feels remote without being far from everything you would want or need in town. The animals onsite were relaxing and fun to engage with. The host left treats for the alpacas as well as a treat jar for my dogs. Whenever I am picking a place to stay my dogs are my biggest consideration. This property was incredibly dog friendly however, your pups will need to be farm animal friendly for the experience to be fully enjoyable. My pups were used to farm life and paid no mind. The host left a basket special for my dogs with treats and towels. I felt that my pets were safe there when I ran. The host is a fast responder and attentive to the guest experience. Even having fresh eggs and wine. The wine being a fitness label made it even better since my reason for travel was running. I will definitely seek out this property next time I am in town. Perfect space for a peaceful retreat.
This place is just the cutest! We stayed for only one night as we made our way back home after a long Oregon stay. This was the most relaxing place we could have chosen. The hosts were super easy to communicate with and left us a bunch of water and snacks. My kids were thrilled. Here is the kicker: the animals. Oh my… the cuuuuuuest alpacas and even a nursing baby! We were able to feed them and the chickens/ducks.
The house accommodations felt SO clean and well taken care of by our host. You can tell they love having people spend time here! This place is perfect for a small family with little kids. It’s not huge and is very cozy but for the right family, it’s absolutely perfect!
We will totally be back!

So glad you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to welcoming your family back!
I rented this for a couple nights to reward myself for finishing a tough course that lasted 4 months. Anyway, it was peaceful, quiet and the really well- equipped little kitchenette was a real bonus. The heater worked well which was great,, it got really cold for sure overnight. Pam is a responsive, very nice host. Be prepared to recycle what you can and NOT toss any food scraps out etc. Pam provides nice little containers for compost, which goes to her chickens, and recyclables.
I'll keep this sweet location in mind for another visit some day. Fun country setting with the alpacas, geese, chickens right near the cottage.

About the host

I am a retired teacher and school administrator. I now work part time for my son, and enjoy my little acre in paradise. I grow vegetables, have a small onsite ceramics studio, and enjoy the geese, chickens, and alpacas.
Why they chose this property
One of the greatest features about this property is the private rural setting, yet we are located less than 1/4 mile for Highway 101. Just 10 minutes away from the spectacular Avenue of the Giants, historic Ferndale, Loleta Cheese Factory, The Botanical Gardens, and loads of hiking and biking trails. Several restaurants are just one or two minutes away, along with shopping. Set on an acre, our location is unique, located on a quiet dead end street on a hill. Complimentary snacks, water, coffee and tea are available to all guests. Those staying for two nights or more will be greeted by a complimentary bottle of wine and fresh eggs from our chickens in the fridge. Relax on the new cedar deck, grill up some food, or just enjoy the peaceful sound of the breeze in the tall trees as you relax into your vacation cottage! The farm animals are closely and enjoy our visitors. You'll enjoy your privacy, and all the comforts of home, including a very comfortable queen size bed, flat screen tv, and free wifi.
What makes this property unique
Savory snacks, bottled water, a variety of teas and coffee await you. When you stay two or more nights, enjoy a bottle of complimentary California red wine and fresh laid eggs for you to cook up for a meal. Feed the chickens and geese some chicken scratch. You are a short walk from a beautiful part of the Eel River, in a quiet friendly neighborhood. Fortuna Cinema West on Main Street in Fortuna is remodeled into 6 theaters, but still has the feel of an old time movie theater. There is live theater in Ferndale, just 10 minutes away and also in Eureka, a quick 20 minutes north on Highway 101. Enjoy birds and other wildlife at the nearby wetlands sanctuary, or visit the Botanical Gardens near College of the Redwoods.
