About this property

Spacious suite in Country setting

Our finished lower level is like it's own apartment. This 2 bedroom, 1 full bath suite has a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, fireplace & living room with a reclining sofa that can double as sleeping area. Our “hibernation bedroom”(super dark for day- sleepers), has a queen bed. The master bedroom has a king (memory foam)bed. We also have a reclining sofa & and air mattress, if you need one more bed. Save on your meals & enjoy our fully equipped kitchen. You’ll enjoy listening to the songbirds & watching our animals while relaxing on your private patio. We provide firewood to enjoy the outdoor firepit or the built-in wood burning fireplace. We're close to the local “Hidden Valley” ski resort, Six Flags theme park, hiking/biking trails and just a short drive to Purina Farms or downtown St. Louis. Up to eight people can stay here. However, if there are more than 4 in your group, there will be an additional $25 per additional guest fee. If you’re traveling with your pet, we have a fenced yard and charge $35 per pet/per reservation (cash upon check-in). We have a large, fenced yard for your pups. They’ll love it!We ask the animals are crated in your absence. If they aren’t crated and any “accidents” or damages occur, fees will apply. We look forward to hosting you during your travels

The property was in a lovely setting. However, we have stayed in many VRBO‘s and we were shocked at the level of cleanliness. Rugs had not been vacuumed. The floors had not been cleaned properly and dirt was accumulated in the corners of the rooms. thus there were many cobwebs under the counters and things. There was mold in the shower. Poop in the toilet. It appeared as things had not been thoroughly cleaned for months. There was still ashes on the front of the fireplace. We would not even sit on the couches because they were so dirty and worn out. The bed was so high it was extremely difficult to get in and out of. There’s much more I could say, but this is enough. The sad thing is it’s in a very lovely setting and could’ve been a very lovely VRBO.

I'm sorry you had such a terrible experience at our home. After your first night, I was outside your door watering the plants. I waved and you acknowledged me. I wish you had come out and shared your concerns with me about the conditions of the unit. I certainly would have come inside and tended to the concerns you had listed in your review. As you know, we had a second bedroom that you could have used. That bed is a little closer to the ground. I am aware that the one loveseat is older. That is why I recently purchased a cover for it. The other reclining sofa is a faux leather and I cannot see how it was "so dirty you couldn't sit on it". As far as the bathroom, we clean it thoroughly between bookings. I certainly would not have left feces in the toilet. We are a Premier VRBO host and have been hosting for over seven years. Most of our guests enjoy our "Country Home" and typically leave us good reviews. I hope the next VRBO you stay at meets your standards.

Awesome place to stay! Very peaceful to sit outside and listen to the birds and watch the donkeys and horses grazing. Clean and comfortable place, has everything we needed! Smooth check in and out! I will definitely see about staying here again when visiting St. Louis again!

The home was clean.Host kept me well informed of expectations. I was surprised the home was her basement but I think I missed that in the reading of property. Box fan was dusty. Had to move refrigerator to get the plug to coffee pot and that part of refrigerator had lots of dust on it.I would stay at this home again when I make it back to that area.

Debbie was very friendly and accommodating. My dog and I really loved the peaceful mornings on the patio, and talking to the donkeys and horses. The backyard was plenty big for my dog to romp around and sniff all the things.

Build up at the base corner of shower. Leather sofa had stuffing come out where cup holders were. Dinning room table had sticky stuff on top and chairs had splits in materials and one was either dirty or stained. Bed rooms were nice and clean.

The house and property were very comfortable for the 2 ladies and 5 giant dogs who stayed there. It would be great for couple who share beds, many even with teenagers sleeping in the living room. It rained a lot while we were in town and that was a problem with us having 5 giant dogs going outside to potty and exercise in the morning and evening (we were at Purina showing all day). Maybe consider getting a Muddy Mat that is easily washable for the back door. The stained concrete floors were great for dogs!The host does have 2 mini donkeys and a horse that share a fence with the backyard. My dogs would bark at them but were not aggressive. The donkeys would come to the fence and didn't seem to mind the dogs, but some dogs might loose it over livestock being so close!The bathroom shower was great, but the room needs some hooks added to hang clothes and dry towels for reuse. I also wished the bedroom had a small dresser or suitcase holder. The closet was large with plenty of hangers, but I prefer to unpack my floded clothes too. The kitchen had everything I needed to prepare the 1 meal we cooked during the week. A cheese grater and pans with Teflon coating would have been great. We will look for this home the next time we stay in the area.

Donna, thanks for the idea about the additional hooks for hanging things on. Also, I did have a folding luggage holder. I think I forgot to put it in your room. Oops. Sorry. The rainy weather was difficult with all those big dogs, but we all survived. My donkeys enjoy all the animals that come visit them through the fenceline. Most pups get a kick out of meeting the donkeys. Until next time...

Great Accommodations and Hosts

I was raised on this property. My family has lived here for over 70 years. I call it "My little country farm, in town". I love horseback riding, hiking, boating & float trips on Missouri rivers.

Why they chose this property

We have so much to do within an hour of our home. Go downtown to a Cardinal game or Blues hockey game. Hike the trails at the local parks. Ski Missouri at Hidden Valley or a fun-filled day at Six Flags, just 15 minutes away. You may also enjoy a relaxing float trip near Leasburg, MO on the Huzzah or Meramec Rivers. There's also a competition dog park at Purina Farms just 20 minutes from us. You and your dogs are welcome to stay with us. They will love our large, fenced yard. Our pet fee is $25 per pet, per reservation

What makes this property unique

Quiet, country setting. Option for fireside fun, lots of parking (in case you are moving and need somewhere to park your moving van). We also could house you if you are traveling with your horses. We have secure fields for them to stay in and room to park a horse trailer. I have two horses and two donkeys, but we would keep your horse separate.
