About this property
Waterfront Farmhouse with Wood Stove on 9 Acres of Land
This beautiful four-season farmhouse on 9 acres of land has been updated to comfortably accommodate multiple families. Shell Cottage is a waterfront property, but the grassy shoreline prevents swimming access. Shell Cottage is a fantastic home base to explore the area or simply sit back and watch the ever-changing tides and shorebirds. Only minutes away, you can explore beaches, waterfalls, golf courses, markets, and Wentworth Mountain activities (ski, bike, hike, disc golf).
Surrounded by windows on all sides, this bright open-concept farmhouse is the ideal space to host a getaway or family vacation. The sun streams in through windows that offer views of forests, fields, tidal shores, eagles and herons. Though the property is waterfront, the grassy shoreline prevents access for swimming.
In this rustic home, the main level houses a great-room with eat-in kitchen and large living room. The dining room has expansive views to the shoreline and pasture. In the summer, a sun porch off of the dining room is the best location for sunset views. This room is prefect for warm weather relaxing. Additionally, the main level has a powder room, laundry closet and a wide entrance hall with heaps of room for storage. Exposed ceiling joists compliment the bright day-lit spaces.
In the living room, you will find an abundance of board games and puzzles, and a library of books for all ages. If you are serious about your games and puzzles, you will be happy to find a dedicated table for just this purpose. The large wood stove can easily heat the entire house (even in the depths of winter), and the generously sized couch and chairs provides ample space to cozy up. A TV with chromecast allows access to all of your streaming memberships thorugh your tablet or smart phone.
The kitchen is well stocked with kettle, coffee maker, toaster, and dishwasher. There is no microwave, as the antique plates cannot be used in this way. Thanks to the gorgeous scenery, there is no better place to cook a feast - and this kitchen is stocked to do so. The dining room with sliding door onto the sun porch and waterfront deck can sit between 4 and 12 people easily. The kitchen provides ample dishes to host multiple families.
A large multi level deck and sun porch overlooks nine acres of pasture, gently sloping into the Northumberland Strait: a perfect western vantage point to enjoy dramatic summer sunsets. Shell Cottage's shoreline attracts a rotating cast of migratory birds, blue herons, ducks, vultures, ospreys and eagles.
There is a laundry/broom closet off of the dining room with a small-scale stacked washer/dryer.
All bedrooms and the full bath are upstairs. The four bedrooms (double/single bunk, queen, queen and double, double/single bunk) have all white sheets and plenty of wool blankets and quilts. There are bath towels and face cloths are provided for each guest. All rooms have dressers and hooks for storage.

About the host
Your host
I have lived in beautiful Nova Scotia with my husband and son for the past 20 years. As we get to know more areas of our incredible province, we are consistently amazed at all it has to offer. We spend most of our time in the North Shore at Wentworth Mountain. In the winter we ski most weekends, and in the summer we love to mountain bike throughout the week. On the weekends in the summer, we love to access the mountain by the chairlift and take part in some apres at the Wentworth barn. See our website for details.
Why they chose this property
The North Shore has the warmest ocean waters in Nova Scotia. These protected waters are perfect for relaxing on the beach. The orientation of the beaches makes for phenomenal sunsets. We also love all that Wentworth has built up - especially over the past few years. Their bike park is outstanding, with 26 new trails and excellent trail maintenance. The hiking and views are also easily accessible for all.
