Waterfront Farmhouse with Wood Stove on 9 Acres of Land
This beautiful four-season farmhouse on 9 acres of land has been updated to comfortably accommodate multiple families. Shell Cottage is a waterfront property, but the grassy shoreline prevents swimming access. Shell Cottage is a fantastic home base to explore the area or simply sit back and watch the ever-changing tides and shorebirds. Only minutes away, you can explore beaches, waterfalls, golf courses, markets, and Wentworth Mountain activities (ski, bike, hike, disc golf).
Surrounded by windows on all sides, this bright open-concept farmhouse is the ideal space to host a getaway or family vacation. The sun streams in through windows that offer views of forests, fields, tidal shores, eagles and herons. Though the property is waterfront, the grassy shoreline prevents access for swimming.
In this rustic home, the main level houses a great-room with eat-in kitchen and large living room. The dining room has expansive views to the shoreline and pasture. In the summer, a sun porch off of the dining room is the best location for sunset views. This room is prefect for warm weather relaxing. Additionally, the main level has a powder room, laundry closet and a wide entrance hall with heaps of room for storage. Exposed ceiling joists compliment the bright day-lit spaces.
In the living room, you will find an abundance of board games and puzzles, and a library of books for all ages. If you are serious about your games and puzzles, you will be happy to find a dedicated table for just this purpose. The large wood stove can easily heat the entire house (even in the depths of winter), and the generously sized couch and chairs provides ample space to cozy up. A TV with chromecast allows access to all of your streaming memberships thorugh your tablet or smart phone.
The kitchen is well stocked with kettle, coffee maker, toaster, and dishwasher. There is no microwave, as the antique plates cannot be used in this way. Thanks to the gorgeous scenery, there is no better place to cook a feast - and this kitchen is stocked to do so. The dining room with sliding door onto the sun porch and waterfront deck can sit between 4 and 12 people easily. The kitchen provides ample dishes to host multiple families.
A large multi level deck and sun porch overlooks nine acres of pasture, gently sloping into the Northumberland Strait: a perfect western vantage point to enjoy dramatic summer sunsets. Shell Cottage's shoreline attracts a rotating cast of migratory birds, blue herons, ducks, vultures, ospreys and eagles.
There is a laundry/broom closet off of the dining room with a small-scale stacked washer/dryer.
All bedrooms and the full bath are upstairs. The four bedrooms (double/single bunk, queen, queen and double, double/single bunk) have all white sheets and plenty of wool blankets and quilts. There are bath towels and face cloths are provided for each guest. All rooms have dressers and hooks for storage.

We had a wonderful time at shell cottage and exploring the pugwash area. The kids (aged 2, 2.5, 5, 5.5) loved all of the toys and books. Clearly a cottage that is used and loved by the owners. And man that view is incredible. One thing to note is while it is waterfront, it's on a wetland/creek with no water access so beaches are a short drive away (10 min)
It was ok,no microwave,no toaster no BBQ,oven was unusable too dirty. blue tooth speakers didnt work .Location and rooms were great! Loved the sun room.

Gorgeous home & views
We loved Shell House and its wonderful back sun porch! The kitchen was well appointed but we did purchase a dish towel and left it for others. You’ll also need to get your own lobster utensils if you go to Chase’s (do!). This is a great place to stay if you want to spend time in the house relaxing with just some occasional time roaming local beaches. Our only other note is don’t count on beach access or roaming the entire acreage; much is unmowed and the waterfront is marsh, not beach. That wasn’t clear to us from the description.
Really lovely house and view, great hosts. Pugwash is very charming. As someone who likes to cook, I particularly appreciated having cast iron pans, a sharp, high quality chef’s knife, etc. Often my complaint about these short term rentals is cheap kitchen equipment, but not here!
Only downside, which is not specific to the property, is that the Pugwash area turns out to be very mosquito-ridden in late August, so we couldn’t really enjoy the back yard and had to travel a bit to find good walking environments. Nothing the hosts could do about that, just something to be aware of.
Would be perfect in fall or if you just plan to go between the house and beach and back.
My family had a spectacular week at Shell Cottage in August. Lots of space for gathering both indoors and out. We particularly loved the sunroom and its amazing view. The owners provided lots of good information on their web site, and were very responsive to our questions as well. Can't wait to go back!
This roomy and clean farmhouse features a sunroom that is great for morning coffee or for afternoon book reading. Although the place is on the highway, no road or other house can been seen out back -- just fields, birds, and the rising and falling tides.
The whole family & extended family thoroughly enjoyed their stay. The place was big enough to easily accommodate 10 people comfortably. The solarium was beautiful. The location provided easy access to fresh seafood, beaches, and sightseeing.
The vast array of books for all ages and the presence of board games & puzzles was such a nice bonus and so appreciated by everyone.
Cate was a wonderful and efficient host!
Thank you for a wonderful and memorable week!
This home was even more amazing than expected. The sunroom sealed the deal for us and when we walked in we knew we made the right call. It is a little slice of heaven and so good for all ages. Our toddler had the time of her life running laps around the main floor. It was hard to leave that view behind. We'll definitely be back!
We had a lovely time at Shell cottage. The addition of the sunroom is amazing. Our days started slow in there with a cup of coffee and a good book. The days ended in the sunroom recapping the fun we had at the nearby beaches.
The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and we enjoyed cooking great family meals. The house was clean and spacious with lots of clean linens and towels for everyone.
House is close to the road so you hear some road traffic. However the proximity to various beaches, stores, shops etc is fantastic!
Shell cottage is definitely a gem and we thoroughly enjoyed our time.
I have lived in beautiful Nova Scotia with my husband and son for the past 20 years. As we get to know more areas of our incredible province, we are consistently amazed at all it has to offer. We spend most of our time in the North Shore at Wentworth Mountain. In the winter we ski most weekends, and in the summer we love to mountain bike throughout the week. On the weekends in the summer, we love to access the mountain by the chairlift and take part in some apres at the Wentworth barn. See our website for details.
Why they chose this property
The North Shore has the warmest ocean waters in Nova Scotia. These protected waters are perfect for relaxing on the beach. The orientation of the beaches makes for phenomenal sunsets. We also love all that Wentworth has built up - especially over the past few years. Their bike park is outstanding, with 26 new trails and excellent trail maintenance. The hiking and views are also easily accessible for all.
