About this property

Scandinavian Cottage Close to Lake

Whether you are visiting Tahoe for the incredible outdoor fun or simply to get cozy by the fireplace and watch the snowflakes fall, the "Aspen Brook Scandinavian Cottage" is what Tahoe is all about!!
Situated in a remarkable private setting surrounded by a wraparound deck, whispering Aspen trees, a babbling brook and a big green lawn, the Aspen Brook Scandinavian Cottage was built by famous Lake Tahoe architect Burt Anderson in the Old Tahoe Style. Despite this rich Tahoe heritage, it offers a host of modern conveniences including WI-FI access, surround sound audio system, heated floors, slate-tiled bathrooms and kitchen with granite and stainless steel appliances. The cottage is meticulously maintained and decorated with true Scandinavian/Tahoe charm for your enjoyment. Outside, the wrap-around deck offers plenty of seating for family gatherings and a yard big enough for badminton in the summer and snow play in the winter.

The lake is just a short walk away... and skiing at Homewood Ski Bowl is only a mile down the road. Homewood Mountain Resort offers great terrain, spectacular views of the lake and well-priced lift tickets!!! Alpine Ski Area and Squaw Valley are located about 20 minutes away. There are tons of other recreational activities available including a bike trail to Sugar Pine State Park and immediate access to the pristine Desolation Wilderness Area via the Rubicon Trail. If you are after more civilized pursuits, Chamberland's Beach, Restaurant and famous Pier-side Bar is just a 10 minute walk. Other great eating and drinking establishments are just minutes away too. The North Shore Casinos are 20 miles away and the South Shore Clubs are 25 miles south.

Big Winter Vacation Plus: Unlike many Tahoe homes, Aspen Brook is located at lake level offering easy access on city streets that are always the first to be plowed. That means no steep streets, no unnecessary 'chaining up' and a 'stress-free' vacation.

Wonderful - book it!
Thank you Linda for letting us share your beautiful holiday home, we had a wonderful week. Reader's contemplating booking, read on....This place is absolutely fantastic. We were all wow-ed when we arrived. I don't think we were fully expecting it to be quite so clean, stylish Scandinavian and yet lovely and cosy. Perfect for our family of six - if ever the was a place where you say the pictures don't do it justice.... Our August booking was also a bit of a shot in the dark because we didn't know the lake Tahoe area at all, travelling from the UK, and weren't sure whether North or South was best (what about East and West???). Anyway, we lucked out staying here - because Tahoma is perfectly positioned for a wonderful week long holiday (or longer), close to what have to be the best bits of the lake. Once we arrived we started researching where to go... there are loads of activities you can spend your money on to keep the kids entertained nearby - Kayaking on the lake, rafting the trukee river, high ropes somewhere near tahoe city, squaw valley etc etc, however, when we went to the beach at Sugerpine we realised days were going to be great just doing nothing, but chilling out and letting the kids get into the zone on the beach. Frankly we could have spent everyday of the week at that beach. We didn't however! We got up early the next day and walked the Rubicon trail (stunning!) seeing bears and beavers - also only 20 mins drive away from the house, and then spent the day on Calawee beach - perfect (our favourite beach probably). And then another day we went to Emerald Bay, again beautiful and so close by. We didn't even make it to Lester beach or Meeks Bay which were other beach options nearby - let alone travel north of Tahoe City or to the south of the lake - there was no need as there's so much to see and do nearby. From a practical point of view, there's a reasonably priced supermarket about 15 minutes away in Tahoe City, along with restaurants and shops if you want a bit of R&R. And we did a couple of walks in nearby national park areas too. So, if you're wondering whether to book, do so now! We had a wonderful holiday here, and you will too.

Magical New Year in Tahoma
We had an absolutely incredible time at Taylor’s Aspen Creek cabin. We loved so many thoughtful details and amenities provided - including the ax and telescopic snow brush for the car. Came really handy after epic NY eve snowfall. House is beautifully decorated in Scandinavian style. We were not looking for modern house and this was exactly what we wanted. That doesn’t mean there isn’t modern conveniences- internet connection was solid. TV in every room for Netflix etc funs. We were delighted to have a wonderful wood stove. Not always available in many cabins nowadays. Bring your own wood though, which we did. Beds are unique in every room and very comfy. House it very clean and easy to keep it that way. Linda was extremely fast to respond and we had no issues with finding the house with directions provided. We treasured every min of silence in the beautiful neighborhood and loved to be next to the creek without wall to wall houses surrounding the property, very common in other places around the lake as we’ve been traveling to Tahoe for 26 year. Thank you for all the efforts and hospitality.! We are looking to return.

Perfect Christmas
We had a good time together during Christmas. Two big rooms upstairs sharing a bath and another room with bath downstairs with was perfect for our family. Me and my wife stayed downstairs and my two adult children stayed upstairs. The house had everything you will need, including one TV in each room and a big one in the family room. There are options of shopping and restaurants within 20 to 40 min driving.

Beautiful with a few slight gliches
We had an incredible time at the cottage. The owners have chosen beautiful decor, towels and linens. The pantry was stocked with little extras (we were able to make choc. chip cookies on the fly). They even left a little gift upon arrival. Our only issue was with the power. The cottage is older and therefore probably not the best insulation and electricity. It took about 12 hours for the house to fully warm up so the first night was a bit cold. And because we had been traveling from a previous location and needed to do laundry, when we had the two room heaters going upstairs and the dryer for laundry, we blew the fuse twice before we figured out what was going on. We had to wait a few for the wi-fi to kick back on etc. It was a slight pain on our first night as we were wanting to relax and watch a movie after a long drive from other locations. Once we got all the little kinks out, the house got cozy. Heat on the bathroom and kitchen floors is a special touch. It really is a special home and we would come again, especially as we figured it all out. I imagine its incredible in the summer.

Lovely cabin in Tahoe
The Scandinavian cottage was perfect for our family holiday. The beds were comfortable and the furnishings were lovely. My father joined us, and he stayed downstairs in the queen bedroom with a full bathroom nearby. The kitchen is fully stocked with anything you may need to prepare a meal. The sitting area outside was perfect for meals or just hanging out. The yard was fun for the kids to explore and play games. We enjoyed nightly walks down to the lake at Chambers Landing and early runs along the bike path. Hurricane Bay Beach was a short drive away and a beautiful spot for a swim. There are many hikes and mountain bike trails nearby as well. I would highly recommend this cabin.

Winter Family Fun!
Our family had such a great stay for our kids ski week. The property was as advertised and clean. The hosts were incredibly attentive and responsive. We got about 2 feet of snow during our stay and the kids had plenty of room in the front yard to play. The street was plowed by the city in the morning and a private service plowed the driveway so that we could get out for skiing/snowboarding. We will definitely be back!

About the host

Hosted by Linda Taylor

Host profile image
We are a family of four who live near the beach in Southern California, who enjoy all types of outdoor activities. In the Winter months we head to Tahoe as often as we can to enjoy skiing, shoe-shoeing, sledding (and getting cozy with a book or a good movie). In the summer months Lake Tahoe offers hiking, waterskiing, boating, rafting and biking. We love the West Shore feeling of the old "lazy days of summer", where things can be as slow, or as active as you want them to be. We wanted our cabin to be a place where families and friends gather to enjoy time together and make memories, and if you read our guest book with 17 years of entries...we are happy to say that the place has accomplished that, not only for our own family but many, many others who have visited.

Why they chose this property

When we travel away from home, we like to go to places that feel different from our permanent home, but are clean, safe, cozy and comfortable too. When we found the Burt Anderson designed, old-Tahoe style cabin, we knew it was the place for us. Located on the West Shore, the area has charm, a relaxed vibe, access to endless outdoor activities with amazing backdrops, beaches, views and hiking trails. In some ways the cabin feels like a step back in time. With pecky cedar construction, stone fireplace, and cabin decor. The house sits on a corner lot with forrest land and creek on the other side and immediately behind, and feels private even though it is located in small quiet neighborhood. The kitchen and bathrooms have been updated for convenience but we tried to maintain the original rustic charm of the cabin. Being able to walk to the beach was a requirement for us, and to find Chamberlands beach with it's charming Dockside Bar and Grill on site was a huge bonus!

What makes this property unique

Walking distance to the Lake, yet far enough from busy Highway 89 so there is no traffic noise. Street level access so there is no steep driveway to navigate in the snowy winter months. The yard is large for the area with room for outdoor play and relaxing.
