It was terrific! Absolutely beautiful and exactly what I wanted when I sought a week away to just BE. The lake was gorgeous and the water was perfect and kayaking every day was a dream. The house was cozy and quiet and private - just perfect. Doug was so caring and communicative and made sure we had everything we needed. We would love to come back!
We had a great time staying at the lake house. The house is not large but comfortable and has all necessities for a week stay. The lake is very clean and beautiful. A nice dock provides easy access to the lake.
Doug is a great and responsive host.
We loved our stay at Anawanda Lake. The house was perfect for two of us, it had everything we needed. The lake is crystal clear and absolutely perfect for swimming. We used the kayaks and enjoyed the sunsets almost every day, and had all of our meals on the lovely deck. A perfect week.
My husband and I and our adult daughter enjoyed a relaxing stay at this cozy cottage on a tranquil lake. The view from the main room and porch deck were picture perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed swimming and kayaking directly from the property's well-situated dock. We appreciated the clear waters of the lake and how we could unwind in this lovely setting.
The small kitchen came well equipped for cooking and we also utilized the charcoal grill. The large TV was also a plus. Although the cottage has multiple fans, the temperature was comfortable and we did not need to use them. The updated bathroom was fine, if on the small side.
Doug was always available to answer questions, so communication was five star!
The cottage is in a convenient location for many activities in the Catskills - we hiked, visited Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, rafted on the Delaware, ate out at a few restaurants and more - all within about a 30 minute drive.
A few advisements: You need to bring linens (bed and bath) plus pillow and blankets as the property does not supply. Also, the cottage could have better lighting,
All in all, it was a great summer getaway. We can imagine that this place is equally beautiful in the fall.
This little house has a gorgeous view of Anawanda Lake. There are 2 kayaks at the house to use. It has excellent WiFi and the cell reception is good (we have Verizon, it worked well). Area is very peaceful and quiet. Owners were attentive and responsive.
Some things to think about/plan for:
1. The kitchen is very small. Don't plan to make big meals in it. There is really only room for 1 adult.
2. The house is small. We would recommend 2 adults max. Can't imagine 4 adults in this house.
3. Microwave is very small and low wattage -- don't plan to cook in it, only reheat. The micro is missing the rotating plate, but we used a salad plate from the wall rack and it worked perfectly.
4. There is a musty/dank smell in the house. Bring candles to alleviate the smell.
5. It is perpetually damp in the house. There is a dehumidifer. We ran it 24/7, and had to empty it 2-3 times a day. All clothing/towels were damp the entire week -- like if you were camping.
6. Mattresses -- Bring your own mattress pad (they have none in the house). Also a mattress topper would bring you extra support and comfort.
7. Bring a bathmat for the shower.
8. Another reviewer mentioned this -- but the house is very dark at night because of low wattage bulbs (there are plenty of lights, though). If you like lots of light, bring some higher wattage bulbs.
We enjoyed watching the bald eagle, the hummingbirds, the fish ripples in the water. Sunsets were spectacular. Tons of stars to view at night. Friendly neighbors. Really a lovely place to spend a week.
Drinks at Catskills Hills, burgers at The Cabin, Catskills Brewery, and definitely make plans to go to Bethel Woods to see the Woodstock Museum. It was very well done and the grounds are exceptional.
We would go back!

Erin,
Thanks for your feedback. We have owned the house for close to 20 years and throughout this time, there was frequently two of us staying in one bedroom and one or two others staying in the twin room. There is even a pull out couch in the living room. We have actually had six people total on many weekends. Having said that, it can feel a bit confining on rainy days when the large outdoor porch is unavailable. And there is only one bathroom. So glad you enjoyed your stay overall and by next year, we will replace the microwave and increase the lighting. The dampness was partially the result of an unusual amount of rainfall this year. We will install an a/c unit for next summer which would help remove most the dampness. Thanks for staying with us and hope you can come stay again next summer!
Although the cottage was cluttered with too much stuff, the
deck is huge and lake access is so easy that we really enjoyed
the last warm days of the year delightfully!! It is true that this
private lake is so clean without invasive plants that my partner
caught some huge bass easily & he was happy with that !! I
would recommend this rental & we had one great time !!!!
We had a great time. The lake was beautiful, clean & quiet. We spent a lot of time in kayaks and on the dock soaking it all in.
Doug was helpful throughout -- offering good suggestions on restaurants and where to buy firewood.
The cabin was cozy. A nice size for two people. It might feel tight with four adults although there is space to sleep four. We used the twin bedroom to store our luggage.
Internet speeds were excellent. We both worked from the cabin for a week. We brought our own ethernet cords and were able to run simultaneous video calls without a problem. We measured 90 mbps download speeds on ethernet and 40 mbps on wifi.
There are some slight cons to be aware of. The cabin is pretty dim at night. It would have been nice to bring a lantern to supplement, or maybe just some higher wattage bulbs. We saw several spiders and bugs and a few mice inside the cabin. Maybe unavoidable in a cabin of this vintage. They stayed out of our way and never caused a problem.
Already wishing we were back kayaking around the lake again.
The lake house view is beautiful and the setting was very peaceful. The owner Doug was accessible and very accommodating. I would definitely recommend to friends.
We stayed at this lovely lake house for 8 nights in late July. We are two couples in our early 30s that wanted to get a break from working at home and celebrate one couple's anniversary along the way. This lake house was the perfect getaway!
The water of the lake is some of the most clear and pristine that I've ever seen. Bring goggles and you'll be able to see pretty far! From kayaking around the lake, we could tell that we had the best dock and deck in town for swimming, kayaking, and sunbathing. We cooked or grilled every single night, and never had a problem with the kitchen. Cell service is very limited at the house, but that was almost a plus for us since we wanted a getaway. The WiFi was plentiful, though. The owners answered any questions promptly, and were clearly invested in us having a great time at their property. Out of all the trips that we've taken, we thought this vacation felt like one the most!
If you are looking for a quiet place with nice access to a lake then you might enjoy it as much as we did. Water was clean, clear and surprisingly warm (if my wife said so then you can bet on that). There is a good wifi connection so it allowed me to work remotely within this covid new normal. If it had been possible then I would have worked from there whole summer.
We spent the week of July 4 in this 2 bedroom cabin on Lake Anawanda. The lake is absolutely beautiful, so clean and peaceful. Owner allows use of his two kayaks, which the whole family enjoyed. Cabin is homey and warm, perfect for a family of 4- may feel small for 4 adults. The deck overlooking the lake is lovely- pictures do not do the view justice. Cell service is not great, but owner provided WiFi along with a smart TV so kids were entertained on rainy days. Should you visit with children, the alpaca farms was a fun activity for a cloudy day and if you tire of grilling on the deck- The Cabin, a local place serving standard bar eats (wings, burgers etc) was very nearby for takeout. Be aware that any other dining or grocery is quite far- so best to pack anything you might need. You will really feel away from it all! The only issue we had was heat during the day- being in the mountains, cabin was not air conditioned but we had an unseasonably warm week. Sleeping was comfortable but living area was HOT during the day. Owner was available via phone throughout stay for any questions or concerns. We had a lovely stay.
