This property really is beautiful. There was lots of space in the cottage itself, as well as a beautiful dock to spend the days soaking up the sun. I read prior that the stairs can be a bit of a workout, and that is quite true. But if you bring everything down that you need, you really only make a couple trips throughout the day. We had a fabulous week and would most definitely stay here again.
The many steps down to the lake from this roomy, well-equipped cottage are well worth it. The brand-new dock gets all-day sun, and there are two decks with tables and chairs near the lake where you can sit in the shade if you'd like. (Also a deck right outside the cottage itself.) The quiet bay is perfect for swimming--the water deep and weed-free. We also thoroughly enjoyed exploring the beautiful lake in the kayaks and canoe. The owner responded to all our questions promptly and helpfully. A great getaway!
Our stay was great and would recommend for families. Keep in mind there are about 110 steps down to the water from the cabin…. Would never recommend for people who have any kind of mobility issue or are obese. You will hate your life.
The cabin itself was somewhat tidy when we arrived but did have to do a fair amount of cleaning on our own. We let Rashid know and he was quick to apologize.
There is a slant to the cottage so wouldn’t recommend to those with vertigo. Also keep in mind this is a cottage.. not a 5 star hotel so if you go in expecting pristine matching stuff you will be disappointed. Be realistic and just enjoy the area.
The property could certainly use work, there is significant potential with the outdoors but it looks like it has been left for years without outdoor maintenance.
Be careful on the stairs… they’re slippery when wet!
The lake and the dock are the best features by far and it’s a wonderful place to rest. Water slide is fun and water is perfect for swimming!
Overall, great stay because of the water and rashid was quick to respond and a wonderful host
We truly enjoyed staying on Percy Lake. The cottage has a rustic edge with a large room with many windows so you feel connected to the outside while congregating and there were four bedrooms with many beds to comfortably house my husband and I and the children.
Make sure you take a bag to carry all you'll need down to the brand-new dock with kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and paddle boats because once you've gone down the 106 steps to the water, you'll have to go back up if you forget something. Once at the waterside you'll truly enjoy it. The cottage is located in a protected bay and Percy Lake is not over-populated. We drank coffee and read on the dock in the peace of the morning, saw loons and herons, caught fish and even spotted nosy river otters in the river across the lake on one of our treks.
Although there is no cell service in the cottage, you can get some on the road and the Wi-Fi access was the best we've had in 10 years of renting various cottages around Haliburton and Ontario which was a bonus for us.
Thank you to Rashid for being an excellent host. We would definitely return to Percy Lake again!
Our family spent an amazing week at this beautiful location! The cottage was well equipped and very spacious. The open concept of kitchen/dining/living room was perfect for being altogether. The oven doesn't work but we mostly BBQ'd anyway. There was plenty of seating options on the deck by the cottage as well as by the lake. Having the bunkie by the lake was perfect for storing our lawn chairs so we didn't have to carry them up and down the stairs each day. There are a lot of stairs down to the lake but they are in good condition thankfully.
The lake is amazing. Clean and quiet. The cottage is in a little bay which is perfect for swimming without the worry of being run over by a boat! The swim out dock is fun with the slide. Having the paddleboat, canoe and kayak was an added bonus.
The steep driveway is concerning if you don't have all wheel drive. But there are a couple of places to park at the top so people don't have to drive down.
Overall we loved our stay and hope to visit again next year .
This cottage is in a beautiful setting on Percy Lake. It is truly private despite reasonably close proximity to adjacent cottages. AND QUIET AND PEACEFUL! We were there in mid-summer during a long weekend and clearly everyone respects boundaries. We chose this place because we wanted a traditional cottage without resembling a copy of my downtown Toronto condo. It was just that. The main room with living and dining rooms and open kitchen was perfect for rainy day lounging. There are many, well spaced steps to the lake but they are not high steps. My partner and I are 72 and 74. He has some real circulatory issues in his legs that can cause pain. We headed straight down with no problem. We needed a bit of a break on each return trip about 2/3 of the way up. I think if you need to supervise small kids in the water, it could be a little more difficult than some other places. The canoe and paddle boats were fun. The cottage is well equipped and Rashid will promptly answer you questions when you email him. He was very attentive to all of our needs. We used our own sheets and blankets because of covid, but the the beds
are made up. There are decks and bbq and all tools to work with. I am startled by the previous review. Clearly that person needs to rent a condo in Collingwood where things are more polished. We had a very special holiday!
This cottage is not accurately advertised. There are 7 FLIGHTS of stairs to get to the water. We told Rashid that this should be written in the VRBO since some people will have issues with this. It appears that this cottage was recently purchased and then hastily put on the market for rental income, which was clear from random debris scattered throughout the cottage and the surrounding areas. It was filthy and took hours to clean which was especially concerning during COVID. After providing Rashid with the pictorial evidence of the filthy cottage, he said that he would reimburse us the $80 cleaning fee (he has not).
The cottage also had a lot of safety issues so if you have young kids or are elderly you will need to be very careful (axe and saw at the doorway, missing section at the stairway, open back deck, broken boards in the bridge to the lower deck, slanted stairs to the water part of the dock). The stairs that went into the water broke off while my husband was on it because it was improperly secured (no washer). Rashid had that fixed when we called him.
The BBQ also did not work which meant a day of not being able to use it before it was replaced. There was also a rat in the cottage. Rashid called pest control to come.
The sad thing about this situation is that Rashid has stopped responding to our VRBO messages, we haven’t received a reimbursement for the cleaning fee and the security deposit, despite Rashid saying he would be giving us the money, which is dishonest.

This guest initially tried to book my other property in Kawartha Lakes that has a lower weekly rent but was unable to book as no dates were available. She later booked at Percy Lake Cottage and requested me to keep the VRBO out and deal with her directly. My refusal did not go well with her even though I had a hunch things might take a turn for worst, so they did. She broke the BBQ, swim ladder and left the cottage in a horrible condition. Her final ask was to refund her $500 in exchange of better reviews.
I have not only refunded her cleaning fee but also the entire deposit amount despite the damages. The cottages in this area are in very scenic locations and at beautiful lakes with maojority having stairs.
