About this property

Rum Runner's Rest

Welcome to the Rum Runner’s Rest- a cozy, 3-bedroom hideaway perched above the Atlantic. We are located in a quiet coastal village that once served as a secret haven for smugglers, sailors, and storytellers.
100 years ago, brave souls called this village home while running rum through it’s rocky coves and moonlit inlets during the prohibition era.

Whether you're here to breathe the salt air, explore the coastline, or simply enjoy a stay, you’ll feel the past alive in every breeze.

The Eastern Shore is Nova Scotia's hidden gem, and the view from the cottage here is spectacular. We are overlooking the beautiful islands of Shoal Bay, these islands are part of the group known as the 100 wild islands.

There are absolutely beautiful beach parks on eith side of us, Taylor's Head Beach Park (10minute drive east), Clam Harbour Beach Park (20 minutes west), Martinique Beach, (30 minutes west). Martinique beach is known for its surfing and lessons are available there.
Just 5 minutes away in Tangier there is a Sea Kayaking outfit Coastal Adventures that does day tours, exploring the waters and beaches of the islands you'll be overlooking.

In the neighboring community of Sheet Harbour, 25 minutes to our East, you'll find amenities such as gas, groceries, nslc, restaurants such as the beautiful Henley House Pub and Restaurant. In Musqudoboit Harbour 25 minutes to our west, you'll find similar ammenities such as gas, groceries, nslc, and small restaurants.

Upon arrival, you'll find some drinking water in the fridge. While the water is tested and safe, we are on well water, so we recommend that you purchase your drinking water or use the spout on the kitchen sink. Otherwise, the water is good for cooking, bathing, etc.

The house is situated on a turn, so please use caution when entering and exiting the driveway.

This cottage is grid tied but has a net zero solar power system, so you can feel good in knowing the electricity you'll be using here is powered by the sun.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

Andrew is a super host, quick to respond when I had questions.Beautiful house, comfortable furnitures (including beds), homey feeling and with a gorgeous view onto the ocean. Away from the hustle, perfect for relaxing (20-30 minute drive to get to the nearest grocery store). We loved this place.

We had a wonderful time staying in Rumrunner's Rest. Andrew is such a kind, welcoming and considerate host. Everything was spotless in the property, really comfortable beds, everything you need in the kitchen, and the shower was dreamy. There was obviously a lot of love and care put into maintaining the property. The wraparound deck with furniture, BBQ and firepit were excellent. We had breakfasts on the deck overlooking the most stunning ocean vista, and sat out at night watching beautiful sunsets and afterwards admiring the stars. We couldn't have asked for more, everything was simply wonderful, thank you, Andrew! The location is also super - we rented kayaks from Murphy's Cove (fab!), took a boat tour with Murphy's as well, and had an ocean adventure in sea kayaks with Norse Cove kayaks- all within 4 kilometres. All in all - a fantastic property with a great host with lots to do esp if you like being on the water.
