About this property

Sandy Bottoms Cottage: Sunny lake paradise

A rustic cottage on a double lot with a sandy beach, a monarch butterfly meadow, breathtaking stargazing, and unbelievable sunsets from our westward view. and great proximity to the Headlands dark sky park, Mackinac City, and ferries to Mackinac Island.

This beach is unique for its warm water, rock-free sand, and a gentle slope allowing for swimming and play in shallow water. The bay faces due west, capturing warm surface water and heating up to significantly warmer than the rest of the lake, often more than 10 degrees warmer than the beaches elsewhere.

The house is 100 years old in 2026, it was the first house on the beach, and it is a living piece of history.

There are rustic elements of this house, do not go in with an expectation of the modern convinces. The electrical system is designed for the usage of a family from the 50's, the shower is suitable but not elegant (that's what the lake is for), phone service is spotty, and the cottage is unheated. Many of our guests relish the simplicity and removal from modern trappings.
