About the host
Hosted by Alexandra Marano
We’re Alex and Alexandra (yes—similar names, different people!), based in Chapel Hill, NC. We love to travel and have designed our homes with the same care and attention to detail we look for when we stay somewhere ourselves.
We host a beach townhouse in North Topsail Beach and a mountain cabin in Beech Mountain, each thoughtfully set up to be comfortable, well-equipped, and easy to enjoy from the moment you arrive.
We aim to provide a smooth, relaxing experience with clear communication and minimal interruption during your stay. You’ll have space to settle in and make yourself at home, and we’re always available if you need anything.
Why they chose this property
We chose this location for its unique combination of elevation, privacy, and access to everything that makes the High Country special. At nearly 5,000 feet, the cabin sits high above much of North Carolina, which means noticeably cooler temperatures in the summer—often 10–20 degrees lower—and more consistent snowfall in the winter.
Despite the peaceful, tucked-away feel, you’re just about a mile from Beech Mountain Resort, making it incredibly easy to enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing in the winter, as well as mountain biking and scenic lift rides in the warmer months. Other nearby resorts, including Sugar Mountain and Appalachian Ski Mountain, offer even more options for winter sports.
Beyond skiing, the area is full of year-round adventure. You’ll find hiking trails on Beech Mountain and throughout the surrounding Blue Ridge, including Grandfather Mountain, as well as activities like ziplining, river tubing and rafting, caving, and UTV rentals. Family-friendly attractions like Tweetsie Railroad, Linville Caverns, and the Alpine Wilderness Coaster are all within easy driving distance.
What we love most, though, is the balance. You can spend the day exploring and then return to a quiet, mountain setting where you might spot deer or even a bear passing through. In the winter, the driveway becomes a perfect spot for sledding, and in every season, you can create your own peaceful walking or hiking loops right from the front door.
It’s a place where you can have both adventure and stillness—and that’s what makes it so special.
What makes this property unique
What makes this cabin stand out is how intentionally it’s designed for groups to gather comfortably while still having space to spread out. Multiple bedrooms and bathrooms are connected by a large, central living area, creating a layout that works beautifully for multi-generational families or several families traveling together.
Nearly every room in the home takes in long-range mountain views, so you’re constantly connected to the landscape. The expansive decks extend the living space outdoors, with plenty of seating, a gas fire table, and a grill—perfect for slow mornings, sunset dinners, and evenings under the stars.
Inside, the home offers multiple, well-designed spaces to relax and connect. The main living area is ideal for gathering around one of two gas fireplaces, while the downstairs playroom—with a large TV, Nintendo emulator, electric fireplace, and toys—gives kids their own space to unwind. Upstairs, the pool table room with a bar opens onto a stargazer deck, creating a standout space for game nights, drinks, and late-night conversation.
We’ve also created a spa-like experience that’s rare for mountain homes, with a copper soaking tub, jetted tub, steam shower, and 3-person sauna—perfect for unwinding after a day on the slopes or trails.
Comfort and practicality are just as thoughtfully considered. You’ll find large TVs throughout, comfortable beds, and family-friendly touches like a dedicated crib room, stroller, and toddler dining seat—making it easy to travel with little ones.
For longer stays, guests can also add access to Beech Mountain Club amenities—including a gym, heated outdoor pool, pickleball and tennis courts, and clubhouse—for an additional fee (available for stays of one week or more).
What truly sets this cabin apart is the balance: it offers space to gather, room to retreat, and a level of comfort and experience that makes time together feel easy, memorable, and just a little bit elevated. Plus, you're never far from things to do!
