About the host
Hosted by Supriya Chattopadhyaya
I was born in Bombay but have lived in Kolkata for many years now. I am privileged to have a spacious, airy house in a quiet leafy part of Kolkata that I offer as a bed and breakfast. It is about 12 km or a 35 minutes drive from the airport and another 30 minutes drive to Park Street in the heart of the city, so the house is very conveniently located. I am a warm, gracious host who likes to give her guests their privacy and space. I keep a clean, well-scrubbed and happy home with my daughter, a couple of house helps and a resident singing dog. I used to be consultant for public health projects, but am now busy looking after my father-in-law and my beautiful dog. I enjoy a good cup of Darjeeling, live music performances (Hindustani and Bengali) and a good conversation.
Why they chose this property
A boutique stay celebrating Bengal’s books and art with lots of space, WiFi, quiet, and green all around. In essence, all the things you need for work, or a nice restful few days to read and relax. We offer you the opposite of budget hotels. Our rooms are large and full of natural light, there's enough space for you to do yoga or push-ups inside your room. And if you are the sort who doesn't like to stay cooped up in a room, step out and use our sizeable living room space. These are well-appointed with several sets of tables and chairs, so you can have your own quiet corner. Bengal is about books, that's usually the first thing people say about Bengalis, that we're bookish. That is why we called our house Boi-er Bari (House of Books) because we are bookish like that. There are books you can borrow from our shelves, and there is book art. The whole house is done up with books covers, and drawings and illustrations from Bengali books. There is WiFi of course. We give you the user and password after check-in. We believe in local and offer the service provided by the friendly neighbourhood internet provider. Not the big, impersonal guys who leave you in call-centre hell when you need help. The routers mention the number to be called in case something goes wrong, and a human voice picks up. Not that dreaded automated voice we are all afraid of. We are a bed & breakfast establishment approved by the Indian government's ministry of tourism under the Incredible India project. We will give you a good bed, clean bathroom, comfortable sheets, and plenty of space to rest and work (and read, if you like). We will also give you a freshly-made breakfast in the morning to get you started. Salt Lake is a planned, quiet, green neighbourhood. Yet we are very well connected. The Metro station, bus station, taxi and auto stands are 600m from our place. App cabs- Ola and Uber pick ups and drops are from our doorstep. Our place Boi-er Baari is google mapped.
