We loved everything about our stay! I’ve wanted to visit Shawnee for a while, when I saw this location on Vrbo, we immediately booked it for our girls getaway. The manager Amanda at the Black Diamond Tavern was very welcoming and helpful. Wing night was yummy and fun. The towns people are very friendly. Brett was very quick to respond and very helpful. Definitely a 10 out of 10 awesome experience for us! :)
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Shawnee, and without a doubt, we’ll be back! The owner was very accommodating and communicated with us whenever we had a question. Also, loved the Tavern that’s close by! They had music, and it was a lot of fun!
3 day weekend getaway. Property was very well equipped making it feel like a home during visit rather then a typical rental. Unique in style and location. Enjoyed it immensely
Nice, clean, quiet little town. Full of interesting old buildings. The rental was a great space, very roomy, nice, well kept, well equipped. We would definitely stay here again. We was in town to see some caves and waterfalls. It did not disappoint.
Beautiful and large apartment in Shawnee. We walked the town and had dinner at the Black Diamond bar. Live entertainment, Randy Gleason (I think) was EXTREMELY TALENTED. Nice hub for Hocking Hills and surrounding area.
We flew out from Los Angeles to stay with family for Christmas. The family home was a little crowded so we opted to look for a nearby lodging option. I didn’t know what to expect but the place ended up being great. Lots of space. Great and easy instructions for the internet/check-in/check-out procedures. I look forward to staying here next year.
This VRBO had plenty of room for 4 adults and the pictures were spot on as to what you see on line. Communication with Josh and Bret as great - very quick to respond to questions we had. Plenty of plates/bowls and glasses for use in the kitchen as well as towels for use in the bathroom. We have a couple of pans we liked to cook with, so we brought our own. We would definitely stay here again.
We usually get a cabin, but was suuuuper intrigued by the listing and the history. It was perfect. Close to hiking and the lake. Grocery not too far. The Black Diamond Tavern was AMAZING. Best bourbon selection I’ve ever seen and I love 30 minutes from the Bourbon Trail! I’m still craving the burger I had. Host is top notch. Cannot wait to come back with our kids to see what else they’ve done.
We enjoyed our stay in this newly renovated condo. The condo is very spacious with lots of natural light. The smart TV was great for giving us more options for evening TV time. Beds were firm but comfortable. The Black Diamond Tavern was a nice alternative to cooking and offered fresh pub fare. The host was very accommodating and quick to respond to our needs. Cell service is always spotty in the Hocking area but the WiFi worked well despite having multiple devices in use at once.
The experience was good. We would have never figured out how to find the entrance without the property manager giving us specific instructions. The place was nice. Apartment converted from an old building. There are no shades or curtains to the many windows. Luckily no one called the police because we walked around and are skivvies a lot

Quiet small mining town
Got stuck doing the laundry for 3 hours when we got there. Towels, bedding were not ready. Also emptied dishwasher. Contacted owner for some type of credit ...none given. 1st Vrbo and probably our last. Thought all that stuff was taken care of.
We stayed here two nights over the weekend. When returning from our horseback riding we had a giant camper backed in literally right outside our window and entrance. There are ZERO window coverings here and the owner had the people there as part of Harvest Host which was never disclosed. We felt like we had zero privacy (which was the entire point of our trip) and ended up leaving early. The location was oversold a little. The only thing to do in the little town is go to their bar and apparently stare at campers. I would have never picked this location had I know we’d be sharing space. Would’ve rather got a cabin.

Pulled into the property, door was open and worker next-door was coming out of our unit after cleaning paint brushes in our sink, walked into over 50 flies in the living area and had to kill them and clean the sinks. Next day came back to condo with another worker coming out of our condo after being told by his boss that he could use our bathroom, cleaned bathroom and kitchen again after outsiders in condo, called mgmt. and they tried to apologize by providing us with a gift certificate at the local tavern (food was good, people friendly) The place is nice inside and spacious, but we did not feel safe knowing the workers had our code for the door. I hope they clear up this issue so that no one else experiences this.
What an experience. I’m giving five stars for everything and I will explain:
The condo is in a good location to access numerous parks. I found this completely by accident, I had intended on staying in Hocking Hills. We walked to Wayne National Forest from the condo. We spent time at hocking hills, hiking to all the spots. It’s about a 30-40 min drive. We also spent time in Athens & Lancaster.
The condo was clean, remodeled with a few quirks. Based on the opera house in town being built in 1881, I am assuming the condo was also built over 100 years ago. Quirky goes hand in hand.
The town is being revitalized and I could not help but be happy to contribute my time and money to this small town in Ohio. If you Google or YouTube this town, the history associated is remarkable. If you are looking to be apart of history, supporting the creation of local jobs and restoring history, I would recommend.
Bret is very responsive. He checked in to make sure all was well. And anytime I reached out, he messaged very quickly. The Black Diamond Tavern is very walkable, like directly next door. Hands down best small town bar/tavern. We ate dinner there three times. Food was great, prices were very reasonable, and music trivia was so fun!
The condo was very reasonably priced, I felt like I paid appropriately (didn’t over or under pay).
I am excited to follow the progress of this small town and look forward to seeing all that is accomplished in months and years ahead.
