Witness the most amazing sunrises, sunsets and star shows anywhere! This location (45 min from BBNP) allows the enjoyment of a huge assortment of wildlife viewing - migratory birds of all colors, shapes and forms, dove, quail, ravens, red-tail hawks, mule deer, javelina, rabbits, fox, wolves, and even an occasional black bear, bobcat or mountain lion. In addition to the wildlife, visitors have enjoyed marveling at the wide and diverse array of plant and cactus life!

Tabletop heater and a fire pit are also available to ensure the enjoyment of the outdoors, even on cooler evenings. The apartment comes equipped with a sophisticated mini-split heating and air conditioning system as well as a back-up generator for any unexpected power outage.
The apartment, currently, sleeps 4 but can sleep 6 with the use of 2 new, large, heavy-duty cots with thick cot mattresses, upon request. In addition, if additional space is needed for additional guests, the hosts' original property is also available near by - an RV that can accommodate 4 more guests (please inquire).
The hosts live near, but a bit removed, on the acreage, and are readily available for information/advice and/or socialization (previous guests have remarked how much they enjoyed "happy hour" on the porch with the hosts!) and if any need arises.

We had a very nice trip to Big Bend National Park and the property we stayed at was very clean and well stocked. We would definitely recommend this property. The host communicated very well with us and they were also on the property for any questions. The hot tub was a bonus for us after our day hikes.
Michelle & Mark were great host, so welcoming & informative on the area. Barndominium was clean and had everything we needed. Bed was comfortable, plenty of kitchenware for cooking & living room had 2 very comfortable couches. Outside had a gas grill fot grilling, hot tub for soaking & plenty of seating to relax or enjoy a fire. Great for our trip to Big Bend National Park & State Park. We would recommend for your stay as well!
Great place to stay. Second time to visit this property. Michelle and Mark are amazing hosts! Very responsive and knowledgeable about the area and things to do. Amazing stargazing from the hot tub!We will be back, again!
The location, amenities, and host attention to details are making this rental place a real gem. The hosts are extremely welcoming and they go above and beyond to make sure your stay is a memorable one.
Hosts were very welcoming! A remote setting…. Just what we were looking for. Great dark sky! Kitchen stocked with more than expected! Clean with personal touches!
Mark and Michelle were amazing hosts and very accommodating. We enjoyed our stay in their barndo with beautiful veiws in the day time as well as the stars at night. Beds and all of the furnishings were all very comfortable and cozy. Would highly recommend a stay at their property and will definitely be back to stay there again ourselves!
Casita de Chiles was a perfect home base for our visit to Big Bend. The place was exactly as described and was welcoming, cozy, and comfortable. The views were incredible both day and night. The sunrise over the mountains was a perfect way to start our day. The stargazing in the evening was amazing. We were able to see the Milky Way from right outside the door. The welcome book provided was full of great information about the surrounding area, and the directions provided in advance made finding the barndominium easy, even in the dark. Would definitely stay here again.
Highly communicative hosts who warmly welcomed us to the barndo. You’re not roughing it here. The sunsets were great, and the wildlife will practically touch you. We enjoyed the hot tub both nights.
Host communicated promptly and frequently. This is great place to view the stars over Texas without light pollution. It was quiet and remote. Enjoyed our stay.
Mark and Michelle thought of everything here. Super friendly and prompt communication-always a step ahead of any needs. We were glad to have such a comfortable place with amenities after long days of hiking. Beautiful property, everything done with care, love, and a bit of education. Thanks for a great stay!
Hosts were so kind and welcoming! We flew into ELP drove 4.5 hours (stopped for gas & groceries). Arrived evening to see amazing stars, (the hosts put out feed to bring in)20 mule deer, 2 baby javalina, and a road runner! Rooms were clean and loved having separate bathrooms. Porch /patio / hot tub was our favorite hangout. Approx 30 mins to town of Terlingua, 45 to entrance of state park, 45 to BBNP entrance. Hosts were fun to chat with and offered any help. Thanks!
What a special place and more importantly, what special people. Casa de Chiles is a well appointed piece of heaven in the middle of the desert. Beautiful sunrises, sunsets, and night skies only make things better. Great launching point for anything Big Bend has to offer. Michelle and Mark are incredible hosts that go above and beyond all expectations. Totally grateful for a wonderful stay and experience. Gracias.
The house was very clean and the hosts were very hospitable. Enjoyed watching the wildlife.

About the host
Hosted by Mark or Michelle Chiles
Mark and Michelle live full-time on the 107 acre property. Living on property allows us the distinct advantage that enables us to immediately assist with any problems or questions that may arise. Mark has lived in Texas his entire life, growing up mainly in the San Antonio South Texas areas. Mark attended Texas A&M University and has extensive experience in construction, farming, ranching and the wilderness. Michelle is a "military brat" and preacher's daughter so considers herself "doubly dysfunctional" - LOL! Michelle attended Abilene Christian University and has extensive wilderness experience.
Why they chose this property
Mark began traveling to and visiting the Big Bend/Terlingua Ranch area at the age of 11 with his parents. Since his parents had a fondness for the area, Mark was able to explore and learn to appreciate it too - and became more and more fond of it as the years went by. As time has gone by, Mark has realized that a lot of people have no idea what is out here. Since they both share a passion for the beauty of the Big Bend area, Mark and Michelle have formed a great partnership and take great pleasure in sharing this passion with others. They hope you'll enjoy it as much as they do!
What makes this property unique
Since Mark and Michelle have, also, traveled extensively they have made sure that their property is everything that they would want/need, if it were for them. It is their goal to make sure that each and every guest feels immediately "at home" and "part of the family". Besides the ample amenities, of the apartment, there are other amenities/attractions close by: swimming pool, cafe', laundry facility, and the Terlingua Ranch management office. This property location also provides a great jumping off spot for all that the Big Bend region has to offer. Yet, it affords visitors tranquil and beautiful evenings for relaxing and star gazing.
