In the heart of nature, in a small rustic hamlet, this old barn has kept its character while benefiting from a high-end renovation, a perfect combination of the charm of the old and the functionality of the contemporary.
The house "Les Coquelicots" in Montceau-et-Écharnant is a fully equipped family home with 5 bedrooms, more than 250m2 of indoor space and more than 600m2 of outdoor space.
You will be sensitive to the noble materials used during the renovation and its authenticity: exposed stone walls, Burgundy stone floors, natural stone or terracotta tiles, French ceilings, raw wood...
When you arrive, you will be struck by its wide exposed stone façade and its impressive rounded anthracite opening of more than 5m high and wide. This clever mix of old and contemporary will be the leitmotif of your stay. An exquisite foretaste.
The well-kept garden offers three relaxation areas. The first around a table in the shade of the large tree, the second under the shelter, with its outdoor kitchen and large table, and the third around the comfortable garden furniture and parasol. The outdoor kitchen is equipped with a sink, a plancha and a traditional barbecue. Each outdoor table can accommodate 6 to 8 adults. You will be seduced by the calm of the surroundings, the rose bushes, the majestic pine and the exposed stones of this old barn renovated by an architect. The exterior is entirely enclosed by low walls and offers security and privacy.
A backyard closed by an electric gate will allow you to park your vehicles safely. A private charging station for electric cars is also at your disposal.
Enter the house now: the ground floor with its impressive volumes distributes a spacious entrance, a warm living room with its authentic fireplace, a dining room, a semi-open fitted kitchen with beautiful amenities and its pantry.
The living room nestled under a French ceiling with its majestic beams can accommodate up to 10 travellers thanks to its two large sofas placed in the corner, its two comfortable armchairs and its leather and velvet poufs. Treat yourself to a moment of relaxation in front of a wood fire or while watching TV. Its coffee tables, side tables and wide carpet make it a practical and comfortable space.
The dining area features a large waxed concrete table, 8 comfortable velvet chairs and a beautiful chandelier. You will also find a large wooden china cabinet and a decorative console.
In a discreet room, annexed to the living room, enjoy the large zinc bar: you can meet there to taste the best wines of the region, admire the decorative works as well as its traditional terracotta floor tiles. A unique atmosphere and memorable evenings in perspective!
A first separate toilet and its washbasin are present on the ground floor.
A central room of family life, you will love cooking and find yourself in the charming fully equipped kitchen. The kitchen is divided into two areas. The first space with the main corner kitchen with island and hob, hood, cutting board, sink, oven, microwave, dishwasher and coffee machine. The space has many cupboards and drawers where you will find all the equipment and utensils essential for your meal preparation. The second space separated by an industrial glass roof has a kitchenette with pantry, a second sink and the American fridge with ice dispenser.
You can eat in a small group around the kitchen island or around its small side table.
From the kitchen you can access the laundry room with washing machine and dryer and always plenty of storage. You can hang and dry your laundry in the back yard of the house.
Upstairs, a cosy mezzanine with library serves two distinct spaces. You will admire its high ceiling, its seagrass floor and you can enjoy its SPA in winter!
To the right, in complete privacy, the master suite with its King Size bed, natural stone floor, en-suite bathroom and dressing room. The master bathroom offers two sinks, a bathtub, a walk-in shower and a second private toilet.
To the left, a corridor leads to the other three master bedrooms. The next two bedrooms offer a queen size bed and the third bedroom a single double bed, ideal for children. Each bedroom offers a soft and refined colourful universe as well as some storage. You will fall for their skylight window.
These three bedrooms share the second bathroom equipped with a double sink, a shower and a large storage cupboard-dressing room. A third separate toilet is also available in the bedrooms.
All the bedrooms upstairs are equipped with an electric blackout blind. The windows of these overlook the calm, mainly on the garden or on the backyard of the house.
The staircase to go upstairs has about ten solid steps and is equipped with a handrail. The mezzanine also has a railing. Children remain under the supervision of adult travellers. The owners of the house decline all responsibility in the event of an accident.
The fifth bedroom is a complementary room that you will find on the ground floor, behind the kitchen. This room has a sofa bed and its own access to the garden. It can also be a rest or play area for children and the family. The room is also equipped with a large storage cupboard.

The pictures don't even do this house justice. Amazing remodel on a historic structure. Feels both old and new in the best ways. So much open space, great kitchen (with all the utensils), and absolutely amazing front yard with tons of space to relax and entertain. Loved how remote the town is, too - absolutely quiet, yet still an easy drive to anywhere you need to go. Friends stayed with me and were blown away, too (they kept calling it "the villa"). I will definitely stay here again next time I'm in Burgundy. Also, hosts Virginie and Rolfe super attentive. And extremely easy check in and departure. 5 stars.

Virginie
La maison, entièrement rénovée est magnifique, confortable alliant le contemporain du mobilier au charme de la pierre. Le jardin en façade est très bien entretenu (nous avons regretté en décembre de ne pas pouvoir profiter de la terrasse couverte et des massifs fleuris). L'arriere de la maison (servant de parking) est moins bien entretenu et mériterait plus d'attention;
