Chanceford Hall Bed & Breakfast - The Chanceford

REDISCOVER Romance in the elegance of a beautifully decorated, historic Eighteenth Century Federal style home. Our 4 guest rooms are spacious & comfortable, & include breakfast. Relax or enjoy birding, hiking, or canoeing & kayaking on the scenic Pocomoke River (Two blocks away). Walk to shops, galleries, & restaurants in the quaint town of Snow Hill, MD. Use Chanceford Hall B&B as a romantic get-away from which to explore nearby Ocean City, & the wild ponies of Assateague & Chincoteague.

The Chanceford Room is our first floor couples King suite. It features a massive four poster King Bed, with a theme based around George Washington and colonial America. It is adjacent to the first floor Parlour and has a connected ensuite with full bath. You may request to dine together privately in the Chanceford for a more intimate breakfast as part of your stay.

Chanceford Hall is luxuriously focused on the smallest details to ensure you feel spoiled during your stay. A lavish multi course breakfast is served in the dining hall on fine gold rimmed China as you sit on Rococo revival chairs which bring your historical experience to life, while you savor a menu catered to the season with the freshest local ingredients.

Enjoy a game of Horseshoes, Bocce Ball or Croquet on our over one acre grounds surrounded by stately trees and bamboo. Converse with new or old friends in our Veranda sitting area, lounge by the pool deck or just relax in the hammock enjoying the surrounding nature. We would also be happy to build you a fire in our Our goal is to help you escape.

Though our rooms do not include televisions due to our Colonial theme throughout, we have recently added a 70" television to our outdoor sitting area to make sure you can catch any important game or event, or just have something on the background. We also have a pool table, darts, comfortable outdoor furniture, and a large Jenga game, perfect for hanging out with friends or family after a day at the beach or exploring the Eastern Shore.

About the host

Host profile image
I have a background in hospitality and tourism in the Orlando area having worked with several large global hotel and vacation ownership brands. Together, with my husband Mat, a former Decorator at Walt Disney World, we work to provide a comfortable, attentive and unique guest experience. I enjoy sharing the history of the architecture of the home as well as the history of the owners. Mat, as a former US Marine, really enjoys telling the story of the 2nd Owner, Colonel Levin Handy, who was the Commander of a ship in the last battle of the revolutionary war.

Why they chose this property

Chanceford Hall was built in 1759 and is ranked as one of the op 100 of Maryland’s Classic Buildings by the Society of Architectural Historians. The 6000 square foot property sits on just over an acre. The property has a storied history, from storing federal documents during the war of 1812, being owned by the commander of a ship in the last naval battle of the American Revolution, to some more dramatic initials etched into the glass, the beautiful Federal style architecture and storied history made this a perfect place to live and entertain our guests.

When I first found this property, we were impressed with its stately exterior and beautiful Georgian and Federalist features both inside and out. The home sits on over 1 acre of mature landscape, meaning, some of the trees are over 100 years old!

Chanceford Hall is in the beautiful quaint small town of Snow Hill. Though it rarely snows, and we have yet to find the 'hill', the town is truly a special place to live and visit. From unique little shops, eateries and art galleries, to the dark waters of the Pocomoke river just a couple blocks away, we truly enjoy living here and hosting our guests from around the world.

The location of the property enables easy commute to Ocean City, Assateague Island the Crisfield Ferries to Smith and Tangier islands and many other attractions on the Eastern shore. We are a short walk to two river front parks, Byrd Park and Sturgis Park. We also have a kayak and canoe rental shop on the river in Snow Hill.

What makes this property unique

The property sits just blocks from downtown shopping and the Pocomoke river. It is on over an acre of land that gives you the opportunity to enjoy some of our natural wonder on property as well as some yard games, our lap pool and old fashioned entertainment.

Breakfast serving at Chanceford Hall offers an experience similar to that of a fine dining establishment, in the ambiance of the dining hall of our 1759 property. I enjoy bringing a unique dining experience to our guests every morning. From the light music in the background and Rococo Revival chairs, to the serving on antique gilded china and crystal stemware, it is my pleasure to bring a dining experience that aims to be unique, delicious, and immersive. You will truly be treated like a lord and lady of early Colonial America.
