The history of the Grandparents' Room - "an open door to the world"
From the road leading from Craiova to Bechet, the large alley descends to the right, from the fountain on the hill to beyond the school, leaving on either side smaller alleys, like the sources of a river. From the top of the hill, the village looks like a fortress, shading its settlements on the school hill under the gaze of the church in the valley. From the top of the hill, the Jiul humbly follows the path of the Danube, in the shade of young and old trees, in the company of a few shepherds and in the quiet of the forest.

This is where the small plain village of Secui is located, on the site of a Daco-Roman forge that used the river as a means of transport for grain boats, and then on the grounds of the Bucovăț monastery, whose church is the village church.

The name of Secui has remained unchanged over the centuries, since 1588, when five families from Secui were brought from Transylvania to work the monastery's land, received in the same year from the jupânea Stanca of Bratovoiești. The year 1588 thus becomes the year of the foundation of the village, according to the documents.
Today, as in the past, the village is quiet, interrupted only by festivals and traditions. With a daily life punctuated by work in the fields, an activity for which it is nationally renowned - it is sometimes impossible not to hear the word "Szekler's cabbage" - the Szekler is rich in festivals and Sundays.

To say that a village has no beauty is to erase its history and tradition, because its beauty is not related to the tourist area, but to the preservation of the Romanian tradition. In the last decade, I noticed that the tradition was slowly being lost, becoming a Christmas and Easter novelty, and that childhood memories were starting to fade. So we started welcoming foreigners from all corners of the world, showing them our corner of the world, now, while we still have some, in the hope that if someone saw them, they would keep everything we know.

But all these events took on a flavour of remembrance, and I remember that for two years we missed the Christmas carol singers, the New Year's ploughman, the goat, the feast of St. John. Then we began to relive the childhood of Christmas carols and traditions by going to our neighbors' houses to sing them with the groups of beautiful people who showed up at our door on feast days.

We sang with Italians, South Koreans, Georgians, Russians, Turks and, of course, Romanians.

In 2011, we started showcasing local traditions and beauty as best we could, welcoming more than 1,300 people from 149 countries, in the hope that neither the Romanian village nor its traditions will be lost. We look forward to meeting people, places and stories that will remind you of your childhood and open your heart to the roots and adventures of yesteryear. We look forward to seeing you again and again and wish you many good memories!
