Since my first viewing of 'The Under-Sea World' of Jacque Cousteau, I knew the sea was for me. I built my first kayak when I was 14 and have been exploring waterways ever since. As Cousteau said “The Sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in it’s net of wonder forever.” So true.
Active in most sports, and travelling the world have been my greatest assets.
Mechanical Engineering and a variety of trade positions have filled my working career. Living aboard Ocean Villa allows me to exercise these trades to ensure she is in excellent ship condition and offers an exceptional quality of life with adventure around every tack.
Living by the sea in Vancouver, B.C. for fifteen years I sailed the Pacific Coast to hundreds of island anchorages. The waters around the pacific northwest with high tides, fast currents and steep seas require skilled seamanship. This I have developed and embraced.
Since 2013 we have been in Baja California on the Pacific Coast and on the Sea of Cortez. This has been an experience of a lifetime and I always look forward to sharing it with our charter guests.
Shannon, First Mate
As a child I was always drawn to water and beaches. Travelling extensively in my youth, I found my way to the west coast of Canada to live by the ocean. I was captivated by the sea.
When I met Rob he introduced me to sailing. I learned the ropes and became a confident sailor and helmsman. Early on I experienced my first gale force storm, Rob put me on the helm and we made our way safely to the harbour after that Rob said I was a keeper! I was hooked.
I always wanted to live in the tropics, I never imagined I would one day be living aboard a beautiful ship on the sea surrounded by spectacular bays, beaches and islands. It’s a life beyond my wildest dreams and I love sharing it with others.

What makes this property unique
Our one-of-a-kind sailing-cruiser was custom built in New Zealand for a family to travel the world's oceans.
Ocean Villa has been from New Zealand, Fiji and the south pacific islands to Thailand, Columbia, California and now resides in Baja California Sur, Mexico.
We have uniquely large spaces for a sailboat, our 3 decks are huge with plenty of seating, the salon is large with wrap around benches and windows and 4 big hatches for air. Our rare Kauri wood dining table seats 6 or more.
All guest cabins, the galley and heads have opening portholes, although the sleeping quarters are compact, designed for traveling the seas, they are comfortable. With 8 beds we can sleep up to 7 guests. We are all about the adventure!
This boat has sailed up to 10 knots and has twin diesel engines to cruise when winds are calm. She's the perfect vessel for traveling the Sea of Cortez / Gulf of California.
