About this property
Privacy on the Schoodic Peninsula, & close enough to enjoy Acadia National Park
The best of both worlds! Planning on visiting Acadia National Park & looking for peace & quiet at the end of your day? Pond's Edge Camp completed renovations & expansion of our original 45 year old cabin in 2021 & are offering it for rent for the first time. Our chef's kitchen, spacious bathroom with shower, plus a custom designed outdoor shower are just a few of the many amenities we provide to our guests.
The original structure was built by a local craftsman who used handmade wooden pegs instead of nails or screws & no design plan other than the one in his head, when building the cabin.
Swimming & kayaking in the clear waters of Flanders Pond, with hands down the best view of Schoodic Mountain is one of the treats that can’t be adequately explained until you enjoy it yourself. Enjoy our natural granite fire pit while toasting your marshmallows.
Our rare, large one acre lakefront property offers all of the privacy you might require after navigating the crowds of Acadia National Park. Try & visit Schoodic Point & Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge as well.
If you are interested in hiking less crowded trails, we are surrounded by almost 14,000 acres of protected lands & are minutes from the Sunrise Trail, Donnell Pond Public Reserve Lands, Schoodic & Black Mountain trails which offer stunning views of Mount Desert Island & Cadillac Mountain, Frenchmen Bay Conservancy trails, & much more! If you hike Schoodic Mountain, it offers amazing views of Flanders Pond & you can try & spot camp from up top!
Watch loons cavort & listen to their haunting calls. Bald eagles are frequent visitors. Stargazing is absolutely stunning.
We are not able to offer WiFi at this time, but most visitors can access the internet via their cell phones. We have a TV with built in DVD player & sound bar, along with a great library of movies & books for your enjoyment. We also have a great selection of board games!
Our well water has high iron content, so we provide a 5 gallon water dispenser. Minimum 5 night rental.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

This place is incredible! Quiet. Picture perfect. Great location. Every picture we took looks like a post card. This was our honeymoon and we couldn't have asked for a better trip.

We are so happy that you enjoyed your honeymoon Korina! It makes us so happy to know that others are creating happy memories at our cabin! We would love to have you back!
Beautiful location right on Flanders Pond. Great for kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, fishing and boating. Property is as pictured and looks out over the pond to Schoodic Mountain. Quiet and relaxing, but the hiking, exploring and great restaurants nearby.
What a wonderful spot of peace and tranquility! The cabin has absolutely everything we needed and the owners were fantastic to work with. We ate lobster on the deck that we grabbed from a local spot, grilled, paddled around the lake, saw soooo many stars and were still close enough to spend time in Acadia, Schoodic and in Bar Harbor! This place can’t be beat and really one of the loveliest places we’ve stayed at!

You were absolutely lovely guests to host. I am so happy that you enjoyed your stay even though you had to deal with the unexpected tropical storm.
Hoping that your next visit will provide better weather & even more lobster to enjoy!
It is beautiful location by Tunk Lake! The loons on the lake add wonderful sounds and bring an almost wild feeling! The cabin is VERY nice inside and very well furnished.. Nicole was wonderful to work with and responded to texts very quickly.. Over all it was a wonderful place to stay and would highly recommend it to anyone!

It was a pleasure hosting both of you! Nothing makes me happier than to hear that our guests enjoyed their stay!
This is literally one of my favorite places on the planet. I love Maine. I guess the only downside if this cabin is that is so peaceful it makes it tough to want to leave to explore and definitely hard to want to go home.

It is my favorite place on the planet, hands down! When I'm at camp, I rarely want to leave either! It is my paradise & I am so happy to be able to share the experience with our guests! You are welcome back anytime!
The Pond's Edge is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the stunning scenery that Maine offers. The cabin in beautifully appointed with thoughtful inclusions from the owner. Throughout the booking process and our stay, Nicole was always willing to answer our questions and ensured that we enjoyed our time.

This little cabin in the woods on the pond was perfectly lovely.
So peaceful and beautiful there. We even caught a couple fish off the dock. Loved the outdoor shower. The well water should not be a deterrent at all. We loved this place.

The best place on earth. Hidden away on the shore of Flanders Pond we had the spectacular view of the ever changing pond and the utter peace and quiet of nature all around us. We bird watched, enjoy watching the chipmunks and squirrels and looked forward to a pair of beavers who returned to their den each day at dusk. The house was perfect and impeccably furnished and decorated. Heaven on earth

I can’t express just how happy it truly makes me when I read a review like this. Pond’s Edge is my happy place & to see that my guests value it as much as I do, is so very rewarding. Would love to host you again in the future!
Ponds edge is everything and then some. The pictures do not do the camp or the setting justice. Everything you need to stay in the entire time and relax at the lake yet close enough to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor without the crowd. The Hostess was phenomenal at communication and making local recommendations yet thoughtful about giving you your space. Can't wait to go back to Pond's Edge!

Second year in a row and it was just as peaceful and beautiful as last. From the Loons to the bald Eagles, to the nightly fires. This place is a great way to shutoff all the craziness going on in the world. Our host Nicole was extremely responsive, and a great host! 5 Stars!

We were very pleased with our stay at Ponds Edge. The owners Nicole and John have provided everything you could need. The view of the lake and mountain ( I believe Schoodic) was just perfect. We enjoyed having fires in the pit . We enjoyed gazing into the sky to see the stars. The kitchen had everything you could think of and the view while working in the kitchen is the best!! This is a vacation we will never forget.

If your looking for peace and tranquility this is it! This is a little slice of heaven set up in down east Maine! If you’re into cooking great food, camp fires, fishing (although I swear there are no fish…or maybe my skills need practice lol) and going for a dip in the clean clear water, then this place is for you! Nicole was absolutely fantastic and extremely responsive throughout our stay. We even extended our stay another 5 days because we loved it! Absolutely peaceful!!

We were so happy that we were able to accommodate your stay extension & that you enjoyed our place! There are plenty of fish, but in the Summer or while the water is still warm you’re going to want to troll for them, as they tend to hide in the deeper, cooler waters. We have bass, white perch, & brown & rainbow trout. Spring & Fall is best for fishing off of our dock. We hope to host you again in the future!
This was the perfect place for a much needed relaxing getaway! The views were spectacular and the grounds felt secluded. We loved everything about it. We brought our standup paddle boards, but it was great to have the kayaks as an option if we wanted them. The pond was extremely quiet all week and it basically felt like we had the entire thing to ourselves. We had enough cell service to answer a few emails here and there, but not enough to actually work which allowed us to really shut down for the week. Incredible stay - thanks Nicole!

Nothing makes me happier than to hear that our guests enjoyed their stay! I also really appreciated seeing the pictures that you posted! Camp has always been a place for us to truly unplug from the world, & we are so grateful that we are able to continue to offer that our experience to our guests. Would love to host you again in the future!
This is the perfect combination of a quiet cottage that's off the beaten path, but updated with top-notch ammentities. We enjoyed the spacious property and the provided kayaks. The outdoor shower is much more spacious than the indoor one, but its use is weather-dependent (it was a bit chilly the week we stayed!). The location is just on the edge of cellular phone service so it was a bit spotty. The owners have done a fabulous job updating and maintaining this property.

Mark, Your kind words are much appreciated! We would love to host you again in the future.
The property is peaceful and well maintained. Beautiful home. The only drawback for us was very spotty WiFi reception in case of emergency or if you wanted to listen to a podcast etc or book it was a bit difficult. It would be nice to have a Roku streaming service for rainy days (we had a few) just to maybe watch TV. Otherwise it is a fantastic location. Close to schoodic peninsula and lovely winter harbor. Not far from Bar Harbor either. Owners very responsive and helpful! Would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful get away.

So happy that you enjoyed your stay! In regards to WiFi, it’s clearly stated in the listing that we do not offer it at this time. It is our intention to continue the tradition of truly getting away from it all that our family created when purchasing this property back in the late 70’s. Many mobile providers have fantastic service at the cabin, & some not so much. We highly recommend that you check your provider’s coverage map prior to booking if internet access is of high importance to you during your stay.
My wife and I can’t say enough good things about this property. The setup of the cabin and surrounding property was so thoughtful, and it was obvious Nicole puts a lot love, care, and attention to detail into it, ensuring her guests are comfortable and well-taken care of. It was so nice in fact, that we didn’t feel the need to leave the area much and even bypassed our original plan to go to Bar Harbor, and instead stayed on the “quiet side” of Acadia, and hit the Schoodic trails. We also recommend climbing Schoodic Mountain - you can’t see it directly across the pond from the cabin.
Thanks for everything, Nicole. It was a perfect and very special place to spend our honeymoon.

I am a mom of 4 kids and have been widowed for almost 11 years. I am down to a 16 year old at home and he had plans to visit family in another state this week, I chose to come here alone. This has been the most amazing experience! I am going home feeling like a new woman! It’s beautiful and so peaceful here. I want to go home because of friends and family, but I also don’t want to go home! Thank you for sharing such a lovely place!

Thanks so much for your kind words. We loved having you & could not have chosen a better guest to kick off the 2022 season! We were honored that you chose us & are looking forward to having you back!
This is such a lovely place - both away from it all and close enough to everything we love to do here. It’s well-equipped and comfortable and you wake up to a view that is just beautiful.
The only complaint we had was the very strong smelling water. We were provided plenty of fresh water, but I still struggled with the smell when showering, etc. When the weather permits, the outdoor shower is much more spacious than the indoor option.
Our host was both thoughtful and communicative.
Overall, we loved our visit to Pond’s Edge and would happily stay here again!

We had a wonderful stay at Ponds Edge! It is the such a beautiful and tranquil place. Ponds Edge takes "cozy cabin" to a new level! We loved the decor and overall feeling of "comfy-ness." We loved having our meals on the porch and enjoyed our kayaking day on the beautiful lake. The only reason for the 4 rating was the water issue, which the owner was very upfront about. Plenty of water is provided for drinking and cooking. If not for that, which took some getting used to, we would have given 10 stars! Also, the owner was very easy to reach to answer any questions. It really is such a special place!
The location is just drop dead gorgeous. Unlike some VRBO photos of a property the photos of this property do not do it justice. As previously stated in past reviews the well water does have high iron content but it is a minor inconvenience. One suggestion we would have is it would have been nice if the TV was a smart TV so you could mirror your streaming services from your phone to the tv making live tv available of an evening. Cell phone service is spotty but acceptable with Verizon. Overall, we highly recommend this cabin and would love to come back in the future.

We really appreciate your feedback & kind words! Anytime that you would like to return, do not hesitate to reach out to us, as you were wonderful guests to host. We have been deliberate in trying to maintain the secluded nature of the property that John experienced spending his summers on the pond as a child. For now, it is our intention to continue to offer a place where you can truly unplug , yet be just a few miles to all of the area's attractions & the accessibility that comes with them. Hoping to see you return soon!
The lake house is very nicely renovated. Comfortable furnishings and beautiful view to the lake. Loons! and otherwise still and peaceful. The only reason for concern and the 4 star was that the well water was so terribly smelly that we could not shower under it. We had to sponge bath with towelettes. The well water issue was mentioned in the note binder at the lake house but should also have been mentioned before contracting for the stay. In every other respect the lake house at Pond's Edge was excellent and we would stay again in future but only if the well water issue is addressed.

Thank you for your feedback. When all of our guests make a reservation, they are immediately sent our Welcome Book that includes information regarding our well. It is just one year old & only has about 3 months of total use. Our area has a high iron level in the water which causes an iron odor. We have installed a two filter system to deal with the issue. We have been advised that with more usage, the iron levels will continue to fall. We also have contracted with Mount Desert Spring Water to provide drinking & cooking water for our guests. We have proactively addressed this issue & will continue to do so in order to provide our guests with the absolute best experience.
If peace and quite is what you are looking for, then this is the place for you! From sitting outside in the morning and enjoy your coffee, to having a drink in the evening and watching the fog creep in, the scenery is beautiful. The dock is sturdy and great to sit at and read. FULLY equipped kitchen, major plus. The owner is helpful and timely with responses. Only negative is the water. It does have an odor and turns orange after sitting for a while. The owner does inform you of this in the welcome packet, however; I did not expect the extent of it. It is do-able though. They also provide fresh spring water for cooking and drinking. Overall most beautiful cabin we have stayed in.

We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay! The staining that you saw develop in the toilet bowl was rust from the iron in the water. The filter system catches most of it. We are seeing an improvement over time, as our new well is being used more frequently.
Thank you for your kind words about our amenities. This is my happy place & I equipped it with everything that I may need when staying at the cabin. We would love to have you return!
We booked a week at Ponds Edge over the 4th of July for our elopement. We couldnt have wished for a more perfect week. From the location, the home, the pond, the view, the weather, Nicole (the homeowner), the local businesses, the neighbors, everything was absolute perfection. You wake up and at the foot of your bed is the private entrance to the pond without a neighbor in sight. Turn to the right and your facing a gorgeous unobstructed view of a mountain. The home comes with everything you could need and Nicole had great local recommendations. We celebrated our elopement right on the dock. Our photographer couldnt stop commenting on what a perfect spot it was. Nicole recommended Schoodic in Bloom for my flowers and I am so happy she did! Pam truly outdid herself with my florals. We took the short drive to Schoodic for photos at The Point. Throughout our vacation we visited Schoodic, Acadia & all of MDI, Ellsworth, and many more local towns. We rented a canoe fom Waters Edge Canoe Rentals (great business out of Franklin) and took it out to watch the fireworks. It felt like our own private show on the water! We made fires, had smores, chartered a sailboat, climbed a mountain...it was the most perfect & special vacation of our lives. We cant wait to come back and celebrate for years to come!

It was our absolute pleasure hosting both of you & truly an honor that you chose our place for your elopement! We are so happy that all of your planning paid off & that the weather delivered! Cannot wait to see a few photos once you have received them from your photographer & looking forward to hosting you for years to come!
We loved this property - recently restored/remodeled with a beautiful, well equipped kitchen, comfortable bedroom and living room. The deck over looking the lake for morning coffee or evening cocktail -magical. The fire pit in the evening - magical. We had perfect weather so morning and evening kayak paddles - magical. As I told Nicole we were a bit miffed because the main purpose of the trip was to check out Acadia NP but we didn't want to leave the property. Incredibly quiet and peaceful, a truly special place.
As mentioned in the listing there is an odor to the well water which is a bit off putting at first but you get used to it. There is a 5 gallon cooler with lots of extra jugs so plenty of water for drinking. Showering wasn't an issue for me - it was for my wife but I didn't mind it - especially using the outdoor shower which has more room anyway. It's definitely not a deal killer - this place is special!!!
Definitely get your groceries in Ellsworth before heading to the property and I wouldn't recommend driving to the property in the dark for the first time - its a bit remote and dark so might be tough to navigate at night the first time - trust your phone gps and it'll take you right to the doorstep.
